At least that's the case in the good ending. There is a bad ending because unlike Volcano High, they made multiple endings.

Not pressing anything in a rhythm game and winning a battle of the bands style competition is a failure of the game designer
It should not be worse than the rhythm sections in the Yakuza series, where they're mostly not key to the gameplay and are often inconsequential.
The inclusion just screams "we want to be night in the woods" but all of the rhythm game sections in NitW were just a bunch of 20-somethings fucking around in an abandoned building, there were never any stakes, but the songs still got implemented into the plot.
How the hell am I watching a highlight reel of a videogame with nothing to highlight. This game was 100% carried by Adam and editors.
The fact Snoot Game is a better game in every way, story, gameplay, etc, is just fucking embarassing.
How hard can it be to optimize a 2D visual novel?

I think it's unfair people are giving Goodbye Volcano High a lot of crap. The game DOES have it's purpose. To give the guy who parodied this game the opportunity to make his own better games. Now we have I Wani Hug That Gator thanks to GYH's shortcomings lol

I love how Snoot game already has a sequel. A sequel where they out-progressived GVH by making the love interest handicapped and a real character.

Going off of this speed read it seems like a big part of Volcano High is to treasure the little moments in life even though they can be taken away by powers out of our control. But none of these struggles or slice of life moments offer anything of value. Meanwhile Snoot Game is oozing with personality and, ironically, love for characters even if they're mocking them.
how can you make an uptomized visual novel? why are they taking budget cut shots on a visual novel when everything else is bad? why don't the lips sync? what's wrong with the voice actors? how do you make a soft locking glitch in a visual novel?

I can answer that. By programming too much into the script. If you stick to portraits, text, and music assets, the only thing that can go wrong is you forgetting to plug those in or plugging them in wrong.
Once you diverge from that and start adding gameplay elements or load in an entire animated sequence, or both at the same time, you push the engine well beyond what it was meant to do, and it starts collapsing just like that.
Goodbye Volcano high has an absurd amount of animation in it, which mean the engine is rendering a shit ton of assets. Additionally, the text boxes have odd functionality and there's some DDR style gameplay prompts which are always being loaded up on top of a constantly animated short film.
Any dev with sense in their head would have switched to Unity when looking at the objectives they had for the project, but they were probably so green they only knew how to program a visual novel.

I stand by my belief that the creators of Goodbye Volcano High wanted to make a TV show or a movie but couldn't get green lit anywhere so they instead made a visual novel, but they treated the visual novel engine like it was the same engine David Cage makes his games in and that caused a ton of glitches and performance issues.
In the end, they should have made a regular paperback novel because the bar for making a YA novel for queer people is basically non-existent. Don't put porn in it, and you can basically have it as reading material in every school.

They should have just made something simple in Ren'Py instead of just trying to make something work that so obviously wasn't. I know Ren'Py gets a bad wrap because of its low barrier of entry, but like, some banger VNs have come out on it. Echo is a great VN and it was made with like no budget in Ren'Py, and it also targets a queer furry demographic (albeit, it has some adult content so the age demo is a bit different), so it's not like this shit can't be done.
Given some of the "book banning" controversies the last couple years, even the last sentence is debatable.
@@ttthttpd Those were banned because they had porn in it. I think queer YA stories don't need to have sexual content to capture an experience that teens will find relatable and discerning parents will allow.
The game not being able to load these 2D assets instantly is the most amateurish thing ever. 15 year old computers are able to it. You have to mess up really hard to have 2D background pop-in on current hardware.
Swear to god, I constantly forget how jarring the designs are in GBVH. It’s like they quickly traced a handful of reference models, stuck a snout on them, and called it a day. While Snoot Game and “I Wani Hug That Gator!” managed to pull off the impossible, by creating scalies that aren’t gross abominations.
A bad game like this gets government funding, but other fantastic furry visual novels do so much more with no budget.
Makes you want to drive into the capital and wail on your car horn.

I find Adum's mockery at 1:00 to be very funny considering that's exactly how he sounds when he goes on and on about 4k movie trailers, or lack thereof. It's almost like different stupid things annoy different people.
Im amazed how it was possible to make every character in a game look this unappealing. The visual design alone makes me hate these characters.

Usually streamers don’t have to worry about this, but when you open a game and everything is starting to lag (red on OBS) the game you are opening NEEDS to have its FPS capped and V-Sync turned on

It's called the illusion of choice.
Good games can hide this by presenting more than one kr two choices that actually make an impact on the quest or story narrative.
This isn't a good game though, and most babies who fall for this shallow level of illusion, don't play the game more than once to find out that there's not many outcomes to begin with.

Heavy Rain (I like the game ironically) has a crazy different amount of endings for each character that David Cage has yet to exceed or even meet since with his games that came after. Look into how to get each ending and it’s honestly pretty ahead of its time what they accomplished in a “choices matter” game.

I think the dnd part looks better animated then the main game
DND part was more like a traditional visual novel where animation was used very little, and you had idle animation portraits instead.
This game has just as much meat and energy as the dinosaurs we unearthed from the dirt.

Because someone who has no actual connection to the world they're trying to portray will namedrop stuff like DnD to sound like they aren't terminally out of touch.

Fake/locked dialogue choices are insulting in a game where "the choices you make will impact the story" or whatever they claimed.
My expectations for the supercut version of this game was rock bottom, and yet it still ended up even worse than I thought.
Never mind the writing - the asset pop-ins, the audio mixing, the weird perspectives of the character art, etc. Did they not have time to fix these problems? Where did the budget go?

no see but the stars being in front of her face is like a really deep metaphor and super meaningful and stuff, you'll see it's exactly like whatever you were saying about the on-screen text from synecdoche for like half a video (sorry i've completely forgotten almost all of the details that would've made this comment actually funny)
This game makes me appreciate that Adam played the 25th Ward in the best ensemble performance of the channel, starring LW as totally literate, Scoot as totally culturally sensitive, and Adam as totally alive by the end of the scene. Absolutely worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet.

If you activate the game with a key on steam, or get it for free your review is not counted in the score. You can no longer leave reviews for games you have played through the steam "family sharing" system. If you want your review to count in the "very positive" 90% metric you either have to buy it or get a review copy. The game has very positive reviews because the only people who like the game are the people who are willing to buy it, the same problem exists with the Life Is Strange series: The only people whose review counts are the people who bought it and took the time to make the review, in other words: fans of the game are allowed to review the game and no one else and anyone who would be giving a negative review didn't buy it and/or had their review made irrelevant.
Even if developers weren't deleting reviews it still wouldn't matter, reviews on steam are not about reviewing the game, or informing potential customers, it's now meant to sell the game by using your fans as marketing.

Its pretty obvious that this game sucks but something that really grinds my gears is the wrong choices shit. This is anti-video games. There is no way you respect video games as an interactive artistic medium and yet spit on any meaningful way to interact with it. its not even a visual novel. It just seems like this was the cheapest way to make their shitty project, which was most likely a failed or denied show. CHRIST.

I've been streaming I Wani Hug That Gator, the Snoot Game with original characters, and holy shit Cavemanon really kicked this game's ass, even with no voice acting and mostly still images.

Turok Evolution had a more engaging story than this.
I like to imagine that in this or Snoot Game's world's, Turok Evolution is the equivalent to something like Postal.
They missed a great opportunity to set it in present day and just say that it takes place in the world of Melencolia
you can really tell by the graphics and the game struggling to keep a stable framerate that this game is using TOP-OF-THE-LINE RAYTRACING TECHNOLOGY (presented by NVidia) (now with cubed cubemaps and bumped bumpmaps).
we shouldn't ask 'can it run crysis', we should ask 'can it run goodbye volcano high'.

First i did Wonder who made the voices for the characters, thought it was some of the developer who did the voiceacting, with how damn bad it is.
My face when I saw that Trish is voiced by Ozioma Akagha who mind you did the voice for Alyx FUCKING Vance in Half-Life: Alyx.
They had professional voice actors and KO_OP screw it up this bad. Even the voice actors must have know how phoned and shitty this game was and just went "Whatever, let's just do this and give me my damn paycheck!"

The fact that something this lazy can still get good to great reviews is really disheartening. You can put out the worst shit ever but make it LGBTQ based and it's critic proof make it "choice based" and no one will mention that there's no actual gameplay or even choice.
