I can't afford your training (too much for us in the 3rd world countries). But I watch a lot of free videos (mostly UA-cam) to learn how to train my dogs. Just want to thank you for putting this out here. In my opinion, you're the best dog trainer I've watched on UA-cam. Very clear, very precise. Thank you.

You need to introduce your dog in a safe environment to dogs that are mentally strong. Please don't do what this guy says just because you don't know what to do to change things.
Believe me, it's better if your dog follows your instructions out of respect, not out of anxiety and pain.
Depending on the dog breed and sex, dogs have a shorter or longer puberty. Molosser breeds such as Bulldogs, Rottweiler, Newfoundlander, etc take about 3 years to become adult. During their puberty, their brain is total chaos. They even seem to have forgotten almost everything they had already learned as puppy. Also impulse control is totally gone. Don't expect your dog to behave like an adult if he is in his puberty. Just show him what is right and wrong, stay consequent. Be there for your dog. He will be thankful for your love and compassion when he grows mature.
The best you can do is start training your puppy as soon as he lives with you. And train him every day, use every situation as training possibility. When he starts puberty, just stick to those things he learned as puppy. Go back to short sequences of 3 minutes for training the things he already has learned before. Puberty can really frustrate the living handler and most dogs ending up in rescue centers are between 8 months and 3 years. But this time will end, never forget this. And when your dog has matured, he is not chaotic in his brain anymore and can learn new things for the rest of his life.

I've used Victoria stilwell for years I was training 4 puppies and 2 Adult foster Dogs at the same time together ,before they went to their new homes , never use punishment to train your dog it will only make it behave worse and never put on a pronged collar that is animal abuse 100%, if there's more to your family then get them involved also , its consistent that works , I'm training ATM a Belgium shepherd 4 months they are the hardest to get aggressive out of them especially our rescued who was being trained as a dog fighter, I'm training him to stop lunging at my 8 year old German shepherd dog who doesn't take kindly and bit the pup so hard it cut the pup bad on his nose , had the pup for 3 weeks now and he is just starting to learn , don't give up , yes it's very tiring I'm shattered but I'm not giving up , hope you can get help , good luck and a happy 2024 ❤🎉

This is 99% my situation with my 2 year old shepard. It's actually scary how similar! I have put in many many hours , he does so well at home , but I cannot get him anywhere near other dogs, and yes i realise it comes down to lack of respect for me. . I am unsure however if it is excited or fear based. Other trainers have told me that he is fear based. How will training change? Do you have a trainer that you could recommend on Johannesburg South africa?

Dude. Like not sure how should I explain this? Been there done that, etc, paid for courses, asked several trainers, etc. This is the second video of you that I’m watching, and on my first walk after the 2 videos, with my dog on the HS colar, it took one correction and she became perfect. The entire one hour walk. I know I need to fix my mistakes, but I could not know what are my mistakes. It’s been three years that I’m trying. Watching this video clearly made me see my mistake. And it’s so simple. Simple as just correcting and constantly. And your love and genuine attitude all of this for free. Thx brother.

I totally agree! So many trainers don't lay out the steps they go through... and they just show videos of their sessions with these dogs, and the dogs are just perfect by the end, but I certainly can't figure out how to replicate the steps! I think it's probably intuitive to these trainers, so they don't think through the steps that they're going through. I absolutely love this channel because it actually breaks down the steps AND gives the reasons why things work.

This is the BEST dog training video I’ve seen on UA-cam period. I appreciate the clear explanations behind the psychology of the dog and the training goals, the voiceovers adding additional information, and the fact that you let the camera run rather than cutting away, so we can see the full process and in-between moments, which are important and a lot of videos cut out. My dog Haku is a lab/husky mix and is EXACTLY like Zeke. Just a big boy very excited and frustrated he can't go play with all the dogs we cross paths with. This video is giving me soooo much hope. All the other "reactive dog training" stuff I've seen was for like aggressive dogs and I've never related to the techniques. They never made sense to me and they never worked. But seeing a dog EXACTLY like mine being able to ignore all those distractions. Man. This is exactly what I needed.
I can't afford to pay for the course right now so THANK YOU for putting this out here. It's only been a couple days and I already see a difference in my dog and I's relationship and I am so optimistic now. But I’ve been wanting a video like this: long, explains everything so I understand the why behind the what, and shows me the progress from start to finish! Thank you so much for taking the time to make something like this, I’ll definitely be sticking around for more videos

44:20 "missed correction" is VERY IMPORTANT. Early on in my dog's training, my thought that it wasn't fair to correct her when she hadn't done anything yet. But you really have to correct the thought and intention to react.
When reacting starts, you have to deal with a non-operant mental state, and self reenforcing behaviours. It becomes much more challenging and less effective to correct.

Thank you for providing such a resource for people struggling with this behavior. THANK YOU! I Agree, this is the best dog training video! I used this technique with my first dog years ago, but with my second the trainer did not use this method. He taught treat training & u turn for this behavior, not punishment and rebuild. This has saved my relationship with my Border Collie, after 5 months of pure frustration and exhaustion. I can now take him on runs without having meltdowns from both of us. I wish I had found this sooner.

I just want to say thank you! I think this is the BEST pet dog who has drive and frustration to meet other dogs mixed with prey drive. I created the same problem that Zeke had by watching multiple unnamed ytbers and 'socializing' my dog at dog parks because its so heavily pushed on this platform. He was already an extremely dog friendly dog, but by me taking him to play physically dogs at the dog park taught him other dogs mean high arousal play and/or threats, or passive victims to annoy. Essentially all dogs came to mean something both more concerning and more valuable to me. Tried u-turning this issue for 2 years with a positive only training (i am glad i learned that foundation though) but being aware that there is no positive competing reinforcers that will win, establishing a baseline with R+, plus more. Everything you did helps complete the picture. I'd also like to mention on the other end there are balanced trainers that try to form a narrative about handler leadership that gets in the way of communicating that watching your dogs behavior is critical for delivering good feedback for what you like/dislike and its refreshing to hear a balanced trainer not obsessively harp on 'respect'. Also your comment about keeping Zeke chill was very helpful. Otherwise the intensity can unexpectedly amplified by overchallenging him where he doesn't even know why hes being punished or what to do about it so he gets panicky/aroused. Speaking from experience.

After using some time a normal collar npow I use the harnish only, even all trainers say that that don't work. But I do not want to hurt the dog at the sensible neck.
      The key I think is
      1) training the dog proper leash walking as this trainer here explains it
      2) to learn him to wait and resist temptations increasing the time before he gets what he wants to about 15 minutes or more.
      3) Keep distance to other dogs and only over time get closer to them as he shows less reactivity.
      4) Distract him from the other dog e.g. continuing leash walking training, or making him sit or lay down, or if the reactivity gets less, make heel training even without leash and reward him with lots of treats treats.
      5) Don't pay attention to the other dog yourself, ignore it by looking straight.
      6) Don't over excersice. Let your dog enough free time to run and sniff. For that it is important to work on a reliable recall.
Don't lose patience. So your dog knows that you are reliable and you always react the same way in certain situations.

I really like this video. We hope to try this with our 8 lb rescue dog. He is a sweetheart inside the home - with everyone and towards our 80 lb Goldendoodle and 12 year old cat. But outside the home he is laser focused on other dogs. We have tried treat training - he doesn’t care about the treat. We have tried a harness and a training lead, he pulls with all his might. We have found the gentle leader helps with the pulling. But once a he spots an another dog in a walk, he goes crazy. He pulls, spins around, barks so loud. We hate to tug on the leash to hard in fear of hurting him. When he gets reactive we keep walking and try to say a word to him. He will keep pulling and barking until the dog is out of sight.

My husband and I both walk our yorkie. Not at the same time.
    1. Is it ok for us both share the training as long as we're sticking to the same method?
    2. Do we use the methods every time we take him for a walk? We walk him like 4-5 times a day. It makes sense to do so.
    3. We are motivated. Our yorkie is super reactive and super pulls.
We're ready with new leash, Hermes prong leash (we had him already kinda warm up to it in the apartment) and cheese treats.

We’re also inside like Canadian tire you know different places where you can take your dogs inside with there’s other people and things and without the prong not paying attention just put it that way anyways we keep working with her and thank you for your videos. GSD start growing mature with 2 years. Until then and maybe a little longer, you will have to help your dog get through puberty. Please don't put on a prong collar and then pull on the leash like this guy does. Your dog might be submissive for a while until you take off the prong collar or until he gets used to the pain you are causing when pulling the leash that hard.
And please don't expect your youngster to accompany you on a bike. His puberty mind will see and taste and smell sooo many interesting things in the environment. Just help him through these times of chaos in his mind and body, that controls him. Simply walk with him in nature, explore the environment together with him, investigate together with him what you both see and hear and smell. This will deepen both of your feelings and tie the bond of yours yet a little closer. Then, when mature, your dog will respect you and he will be thankfully follow you without being submissive. A GSD or an Australian Cattle Dog aren't breeds that fare well with pressure that sends them straight into submission. Also most Molosser breeds won't return respect for submission you forced on them. Please take your time to study the different life phases of your breed, then you can have a wonderful lifelong experience with your dog. 😊

I have a genuine question,- how would you tackle this if you weren’t able to use force (of any kind)? You see,- as a handler in Scandinavia we aren’t able to use force. Prong collars are forbidden (as well as electric ones), and we have new laws that are stricter than people think. (I wont get in to the jurisdictions) Neuro. is my field (human brain) but I’ve owned working dogs for some decades now. So I don’t ask to be difficult or to defend force free training (that’s simply something we have to do,here). I’m genuinely interested in your take on this. Feel free to use Zeke as an example (bc he’s a typical young German shepherd/Schäferhund) Thanks ☺️

If you are strong enough to hold the dog in place , and patient enough.
I suggest telling the dog to stop.
If he continues hold him by his collar and make him sit till he calms down.
And when the dog makes eye contact and is calm . And listening. Act like it never happened .
And reward him when he dosen't react
With a big active dog, make sure it's well fed and gets plenty of exercise and spend enough time with it that he is fixed on you when not distracted .
When you tell him to stop he has the do it, and when you tell him to sit he has to do it.
People think a prong collar is a short cut but I think it is abuse

@@barneygimble8984 "Hold the dog in place"; "hold him by his collar and make him sit"
      Typical sleazy "force free" cultist.
Your uneducated ignorant opinion is trash. Virtue signaling your unscientific approach as patient doesn't make you right. It exposed you as a charlatan for anyone who really look in to dog behavior and training.
So unless owner weigh at least the same as 200lbs Great Dane, Caucasian shepherd shouldn't own one of these dogs? (Weighing the same still doesn't mean having the same power to restrain dogs in reality) And Causcasian Shepherd is not active breed. They don't like and need that much exercise but naturally is very territorial and never back down from a perceived threat.
Well-fed has nothing to do with reactivity or trainability. Street dogs all over the world don't attack human, pet dogs because they're hungry. They learn to coexist. Yet your well fed neighbor dogs can be reactive to everything on 2 hour walk.
Also what is considered well fed? Feeding amount that maintain good body condition or completely stop dog overeating instinct? Yes you read it right. Dogs, cats and many animals would eat as much as they can if allowed, and they can go without food for days without going insane if the situation demand!!!They don't have daily diet, nutrition intake. It's human concept for human convenience to create routine when keeping pet. There is a reason, any serious trainers, vets would advise against auto feeding for health reasons, as well as motivation.
How many hours a Border Collie spend on farm herding sheep and spend time with sheep farmer? How many hour Great Pyrenees roam with sheep? Same questions for many popular breeds you can insert here. German Shepherd has Shepherd in it's name for a reason. Are you saying a blue collar worker with less than 8 hour for personal time shouldn't own these type of dogs because these dogs would require full time job equivalent of exercise to be receptive to training!?
Are you sure your dog is not the one training you?

One of the more in depth, thought through videos on the net. The only problem is that the idea of physical punishment (which is what a prong collar is) is considered medieval and even outright prohibited in a lot of regions - for good reasons. While correct, and highly specific, temporary use of a prong collar might not be harmful, it is a big challenge for legislators to distinguish between that vs dog beaters.

Make light directional pressure on the leash, and don’t release it until she takes a step forward and/or jumps into the car. Mark and reward incremental progress along the way.
Basically, just make it happen, reward, and repeat until the dog is totally comfortable getting in and out, and you no longer need to use pressure.

The fact that you show the process, in the moment, as it’s being taught is so much more useful than short instructional videos with dogs that already know what to do and are already trained. I feel like it’s confusing watching how an already trained dog reacts and then when you apply it to my untrained puppy they don’t teach you how to recover from it all not going like they say it should go. Does that make sense? Anyways, thanks for the clarity and the useful functional way you deliver. It resonated. It’s been so un-useful that I actually want my money back. Damn…
