Hello everyone! I thought I would share how we installed our reclaimed parquet flooring.
Reclaimed parquet flooring is a type of hardwood flooring that is made from recycled or salvaged wooden materials. It has a unique look and feel that is different from traditional hardwood flooring, making it a popular choice for homeowners who want to add character and charm to their homes. Installing reclaimed parquet flooring can be a challenging and time-consuming process, but with the right tools, skills, and materials, you can achieve a beautiful and long-lasting result.
Here are the steps for installing reclaimed parquet flooring:
Prepare the subfloor: Before installing the parquet flooring, you need to make sure that the subfloor is clean, dry, level, and free from any bumps, gaps, or irregularities. If necessary, repair or replace any damaged or uneven sections of the subfloor and use a floor leveller or self-levelling compound to ensure a smooth surface.
Lay out the plan: Start by laying out the parquet flooring in a dry run to get an idea of how the pieces will fit together. This will also give you a chance to select the best pieces for the visible areas and make any necessary cuts or adjustments.
Cut the pieces: Use a mitre saw to cut the pieces of parquet flooring to size. For tight spaces, you can use a jigsaw, handsaw but I preferred to use an electric mitre saw. When making cuts, always measure twice and cut once to avoid making any mistakes.
Install the adhesive: The next step is to install the Lecol adhesive. You can use either a trowel or spreader to apply the adhesive evenly across the subfloor. Make sure that the adhesive is applied to the entire surface and not just in the center of each piece.
Install the parquet flooring: Begin installing the parquet flooring by starting in the middle and working your way towards the opposite wall. Make sure that the pieces fit snugly together and use a rubber mallet to tap them into place if necessary.
Stagger the seams: To avoid having a straight line where two pieces of parquet flooring meet, stagger the seams between each row of flooring. This will give the flooring a more natural and random appearance. I installed mine in a herringbone pattern to make it flow better
Allow the adhesive to dry: After the parquet flooring has been installed, allow the adhesive to dry completely. This usually takes 24 to 48 hours, depending on the type of adhesive used and the conditions of the room.
Sand and finish the flooring: Once the adhesive has dried, you can sand the flooring to remove any rough spots and create a smooth, even surface. After sanding, you can apply a finish to the flooring, such as a polyurethane sealer, to protect it from wear and tear.
Installing reclaimed parquet flooring can be a challenging project, but with the right tools, skills, and materials, you can achieve a beautiful and long-lasting result. Make sure to take your time and follow the steps carefully to avoid any mistakes and ensure a successful installation.

Fair play - respect for trying all these things with quite clearly zero clue how to do them! Regarding sanding, highly recommend getting a professional in. The hire ones are a nightmare and create so much dust. I've done it myself and got someone in and the difference in dust (and effort!) was huge!!!

Thanks Dan! I can definitely say j won’t be bothering with a sander any time soon 🤣🤣 it was not worth the effort ! But I’m always a try-er

Will not last more then 5 years with no moisture barrier between the wood and the concrete. Glue doest count. You are giving people bad information as well. I do this for a living and fix problems like this quite often. Leave it to the professionals.

Not everyone can afford the professionals

So what are you saying? Remove bitumen then replace with more bitumen?

Great video and floor. Sadly the comments on these videos are usually predictable. A bloke can lay DIY reclaimed parquet flooring (without removing existing bitumen on a concrete sub floor exactly as Meg has) but instead receives compliments (from other blokes) 🥱
