I rode the 1090 the previous day and I preferred the Honda hands down. The 1090 had the big bike syndrome of feeling disconnected from the front wheel. Its traction control system intervened way too much compared with the AT, which is adjustable through multiple levels. Plus the AT offers more seat height options. You can just pop the seat out and right back in to adjust the height, takes only a few moments if you know what you're doing.
Still in between the manual vs dct. Manual allows to wheelie and have a more aggressive ridding, but dct gives you that mix of laid back riding and the race gear shift of the dual clutch. Need some help to choose...
I now own one of these in the DCT flavor and I have to say it is a ton of fun for street riding. Being able to shift so quick and smooth is really nice! It also makes the bike a lot easier to manage in tough off road sections such as when you're dug into soft terrain and trying to get unstuck. It's a heavy bike so that will happen from time to time! Just last weekend I got out of deep, soft sand by leaving TC at level 1 and using the DCT to gently apply power while paddling my feet to move the bike forward. I have also gotten it unstuck from deep mud with very little drama. Finally, I was goofing off around camp and because I didn't need to toe a shifter so I was comfortable riding in sandals haha! Didn't feel like walking over to the port-a-potty. The downsides are that it is tougher to do slow speed turnarounds when you can't completely cut power. You can drag the rear brake and that helps though. And yeah like you said, it doesn't wheelie very well since you can't clutch up. All in all it is tough for me to recommend one over the other. I do miss having a standard clutch setup at times, and at others I'm glad to have DCT. If you are a fan of trying new things or you get yourself stuck often, I would probably say DCT. If you think you might really miss having a standard clutch, just stick with standard.
The torque is massive in this bike ... it is all what you need for adventure and dirt ride ...
Thanx for showing. I like the AT. Will be my next bike. Greetings from Germany
Thanks for riding with us. Glad you enjoyed the bike.
Thanks for the demo Keith! You sold me on the bike and I now have one parked in the garage!
I was at the Rally too and demo'd the manual version of this bike. I was sold for certain and am looking forward to buying mine very soon!
Great vidio fantastic ride -- what is the name of this Rally and where was it -- stunning 🚲🚲🚲🚲
I was at the rally also and did the "level 10" ride on my own ATAS with the off the shelf street tires. Wasn't bad at all!
Awesome! Was that Tyee Lookout or the single track ride?
Yes a fair bit of single track.
I did the Tyee lookout the day before with some friends.
That's some whooped out single track too, and Tyee is rocky as hell. Both are a good workout for the suspension, in different ways.
Nice review Sam. I've been thinking about selling my F700GS and gettting a AT or 1090

Good stuff Sam. Thanks! I'll go test ride one soon

Cheers brother, thanks for the input. It really is a great bike though despite of any clutch system.
@@sammyscrap I choose the DCT and don't regret at all. It's a fantastic bike that sounds awesome too, even better than the newer 1100.
Greeting from jakarta.. New own atas
Nice video and I enjoyed the ride. Also, great placement of camera. Where is this that you were riding!
Thanks! We were at Touratech Rally West, which is held every year in Plain, WA.
