@silveriojohan Yeah I get what you mean. I have zero regrets going from a GS to a T7. I’ve beaten my T7 to death this year, 20,000 km, 10 countries and I love it more and more. That was great service by the Honda dealer, to be fair, whenever I’ve been on a trip and someone in the group has needed help from a dealer they’ve all been the same. Thanks for sharing this epic trip. Well done. What size did you have on the Kriega bags mounted on the crash bars? Were you satisfied with the Scorpion STR?
Hi, I had a couple of 6 ltr Kriegas mounted to the front for my quick access kit. The STRs were fine for this trip. I’ve had a few comments saying I should have had more off road bias tyres fitted but generally I disagree. In reality we probably did more than 4000 km on tarmac, so for the very few sections we encountered that were wet, well sure knobblier tyres would have been better, but I’ll take that compromise. The majority of the off road was hard packed earth and gravel and the STRs ( in my opinion) are fine. If you want to see a detailed load out of my Kriega set up check this out: ua-cam.com/video/vI85mxvaaJU/v-deo.htmlsi=wYDSdE819s6snxh8 It’s similar to my Morocco set but a bit more bulky due to climate. On my second watch already! Love to listen to your narration. :) also German based and wish to have more time for going on longer trips. What was the problem with the Honda brakes, no brake fluid? (you said something with transmission, was it dct related or what?)
Hi, we’ll definitely his rear brake pads were worn out. The dealer swapped them out. Also the Transmission (Gearbox oil, DCT only bikes) was empty. I don’t think this has any effect on his braking ability. He got the bike serviced 1 week prior to departure at a Honda dealer, so less than impressive. While we are on the subject my Yamaha dealer is pretty useless. They told me the T7 ran tubeless tyres.! Anyway I’m really glad you enjoyed the video. If you get bored check out our back catalogue of our tours, you might find those somewhat entertaining. Thanks for taking the time to comment. It’s appreciated. 👍🏼
As always guys great video and looks an epic adventure. I know you like exploring off road on the big bikes and all credit to you both.. my gsa is definitely a tarmac only bike 😂. People dont release how hard off road riding can be, i tried it last year for the first time (after 30yrs riding) and struggled even on a lightweight CRF!! Ride safe 👍🇬🇧
Yeah I agree. Riding those bikes on the Trans Euro Trail in Spain is borderline stupid (with our skill level). I did a bit of research before we went on the TET facebook page and was told that the section we did was easy on any bike, and it was in most cases but still you can very quickly get out of your comfort zone. Jason did exceptionally well on the big Honda, the T7 is definitely an easier beast off road than my old GS…alas not easier on my backside on the long motorway sections😂 As always thanks for taking the time to comment, stay safe and keep riding👍🏻👍🏻
Hi, thank you for your kind words. We used this book as reference for all our routes in Morocco: sahara-overland.com/ From the web site you can download many routes and transfer them onto your navigation device. Regrettably I no longer have the gpx files we used. We also went in April and I think it’s the perfect time to go. We found early April was perfect. I know you are going to love it. Thanks for the comment, it’s appreciated.👍🏼
@@alban370 Yes. But is an enduro jacket so pretty lightweight and has extremely good venting and it’s Goretex. The problem is I needed a jacket that had to cope with the journey from Germany all the way to North Africa in April. So yes hot in Morocco but just about bearable in Northern Europe at that time of year.
I'm really impressed. This definitely was an adventure. A tough journey to get to Morocco... a long highway journey... but an incredible rewarding adventure. Great video editing. Tough journey, gents. I really enjoyed watching. I'm so curious about the weather... In the vid you bought some souvenirs from the local man. What is the temperature in such a spot? Perhaps not that warm, but what about the 40km desert stretch? That seemed HOT?
Typical desert temperatures for that time of year. I think the hottest it got was 34 degrees and you’ll notice in the evenings we were in shorts but had warm jackets on, not sure on temperature then but chilly. You could equally have an amazing road trip around Morocco we spent only €200 in Morocco for 7 days riding. Ferries are super cheap but a bit crap…. Oh and temperature on top of the fortress must have been high twenties but very strong winds ( my tripod was blowing over)
Hi, we both had OEM tyres on so probably 80/20 maybe 70/30. Either way very road biased. We had huge mileage to cover on primary and secondary roads and I’d say only about 10, maybe 20% of the journey was off road. We also knew both Spain and Morocco would be super dry so the tyres we used were fine in “most” situations. That said we did get caught out a few times but if I’m honest it was rider error that caused us to go down the majority of the time. So in summary the tyres were ok for the location and time of year. Thanks for the great question. Stay safe and keep riding👍🏼
Hi, I didn’t take out any bespoke travel insurance. I had quite a bit of world wide medical cover through my credit card company. So certainly did not have 100% cover of everything. The bike was only covered in mainland Europe, which is no problem because cash is King in Morocco and really your dependent on the Locals to get your bike out ( which they will, very effectively, I’m sure) Jason on the other hand he did have 100% cover, but I don’t know who with. He also got immunised prior to departure. I didn’t bother. We both have very different approaches to negating risk, which is fun. Sorry I cannot be more useful👍🏻
I agree. A more off road tyre would have been better but the vast majority of the roads we travelled on (4000km) were tarmac, still I would have preferred a 50/50 tyre. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Stay safe and keep riding 👍🏼
That’s a very good question. We both live and work in Germany. On top of that both our wives are German. Thanks for the kind words, it’s really appreciated 👍🏻

Hahaha, that’s the best comment I’ve read in years! Yeah I saw that as well. Apparently they have just finished another trip on a couple of old bikes round the Baltic states and into Scandinavia. Ironically I did the same trip last year. If your bored check it out, link below, it’s in 2 parts. Thanks for the comment. 👍🏼 ua-cam.com/video/21r8C47aec4/v-deo.htmlsi=aBALhnQX3dyBuTMx
I agree, smaller bikes are way better for off road sections but to complete this trip we did 5000km on roads, that would have been very tedious on a low capacity bike. It’s always a compromise. Time off work, distance to travel, etc, etc. At the moment I’m very happy with my T7. For me it’s the perfect bike. I know Jason (The Honda Rider) will probably be moving to a smaller mid sized engine in the future. Thank you for taking the time to comment. It’s appreciated 👍🏼
Hi, All the routes we did were from this excellent book: sahara-overland.com/ I’ve just had a look at the web page, there is also a link to a Trans Morocco Trail, which looks a bit like the TET (free GPX Download) that looks really interesting. I hope this helps.👍🏼
Hi, on a Dual Clutch Transmission (automatic) on the Africa Twin engine oil is shared with the gearbox. The gearbox has its own oil filter that is changed less frequently than the primary engine oil filter. It also has its own reservoir.
Well his rear brake pads were replaced as they were practically worn out and, as you probably saw but not related to the brakes, his transmission oil was empty.
@@peterziegler8204Well you could argue Jason (The owner) could have checked them. He is not really mechanically minded and told the Honda dealer he was travelling to Africa and wanted a 100% check. Clearly this didn’t happen. The Spanish mechanic was clearly shocked to see the transmission oil empty as well. So pretty poor service. I’ve had a similar poor service with my Yamaha dealer quoting the T7 has tubeless wheels to me ( that was the service department)! I lost all faith in them after this. Once my warranty is over I’ll go back to my independent garage.
Yeah, the DCT oil level wasn’t actually low it was empty. Although this was not linked to the braking issue it was one of a couple of fluid levels that were not checked on his service ( by a Honda dealer) prior to departing.
@@johna6968 Possibly? I mean, I’m blaming the Honda dealer for not checking but we had already covered over 1500 km before it became an issue and like you said some of that was off road so I guess the DCT was working hard. It’s difficult to pin point who or what was at fault but it was an easy fix.

We also went in April and I think it’s the perfect time to go. We found early April was perfect. I know you are going to love it. Thanks for the comment, it’s appreciated.👍🏼
Is the Twin manual, cause if not then then that explains the first fall
You Sir, are correct. It’s a DCT model😂
Hello. Great trip. what is the model of jacket worn by the tenere pilot ?
Hi mate, it’s the Rukka Rimo. Check this link out:

@@GreenString Not to hot in a desert ?
Oh and temperature on top of the fortress must have been high twenties but very strong winds ( my tripod was blowing over)
Epic adventure, how did you find your tire choice? They look very road orientated
Very good movie
Thank you so much👍🏼
Fantastic video. Can I ask who you used for travel insurance??
I would have has different tires for the roads you are selecting.
I agree. A more off road tyre would have been better but the vast majority of the roads we travelled on (4000km) were tarmac, still I would have preferred a 50/50 tyre. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Stay safe and keep riding 👍🏼
Great video! 👍 But why do you both have German license plates but speak English?
That’s a very good question. We both live and work in Germany. On top of that both our wives are German. Thanks for the kind words, it’s really appreciated 👍🏻
@@GreenStringOkay, that's funny. My English is unfortunately too bad to understand a video, but I watched it without sound 😂.
Former Royal? I’ve not heard the saying “re-org” for a few years. 🇬🇧
Haha, good spot. Well we were not Marines but we both served full careers in the Army. Every once in a while someone picks up on phrases that only the military use in our videos. It’s just hard wired into my vocabulary now! Stay safe & keep riding 👍🏻🇬🇧
Just watched 3 episode s of the long Way up for the first time last night, what a load of shite!
This is much better and way more real.

Next time take smaller bikes . Is more convenient for such long trips.
@@GreenString I agree totally with you. Btw excellent video
Do you have a map of the ride/route you did in Morocco?
Hi, All the routes we did were from this excellent book:
sahara-overland.com/
I’ve just had a look at the web page, there is also a link to a Trans Morocco Trail, which looks a bit like the TET (free GPX Download) that looks really interesting. I hope this helps.👍🏼
Aren't engine and transmission filled in the same hole??
Hi, on a Dual Clutch Transmission (automatic) on the Africa Twin engine oil is shared with the gearbox. The gearbox has its own oil filter that is changed less frequently than the primary engine oil filter. It also has its own reservoir.
So what was the problem with the brakes on the AT? Let me guess... nothing!?! (they are always overheating when using too much)
Well his rear brake pads were replaced as they were practically worn out and, as you probably saw but not related to the brakes, his transmission oil was empty.
@@GreenString having a service and they don't check the brake pads sound quite scary!😱
@@GreenString can't imagine any Yamaha dealer is telling you something about tubeless rims. Sorry to hear but this sounds really weird...
@@peterziegler8204 I’ve lost a lot of faith in dealerships over the past couple of years😩
Lower tyre pressures on dirt!
I would argue I need to learn how to ride on dirt first 😂
Did I hear that correctly "transmission oil level is low"
Yeah, the DCT oil level wasn’t actually low it was empty. Although this was not linked to the braking issue it was one of a couple of fluid levels that were not checked on his service ( by a Honda dealer) prior to departing.
@@GreenString What an oversight for the Honda service shop.
@@GreenStringWas nothing to do with the amount of times these things were on their sides?
@@johna6968 Possibly? I mean, I’m blaming the Honda dealer for not checking but we had already covered over 1500 km before it became an issue and like you said some of that was off road so I guess the DCT was working hard. It’s difficult to pin point who or what was at fault but it was an easy fix.
@@GreenString interesting.. scary...
No warning light for the lack of oil? And if there was no leak... where did the oil go?!

Off-road? Looks like a road to me buddy.
Thanks for taking the time to comment, it’s always appreciated and naturally your right, it was filmed entirely on “roads” and not “off- road”.
Never trust a stealership of any brand!!!
Your right. I had an argument with my dealer the other day. I asked if I could buy a spare inner tube for my T7. They said it has tubeless wheels. Just to be clear this was a Yamaha dealer! Unbelievable. Thanks for taking the time to comment 👍🏼
