Would like to see a video where you talk about the artists you like and how they inspire you, what you've learned from them and where the influence comes from.
Yes that's one way of doing it, pencil colors certainly do take alot of time T.T I tend to use the burnishing technique through most of drawings which usually means pressing down hard on the pencil, but I do cause I dont like the texture of the paper XD
Thank you very much 😢 I'm so lost on how to use color pencils, I really want the texture to pop, but I don't know how. But hopefully! This will help me, my lines are so sloppy 😅
@@hanjun1828 If you want texture then paying attention to the direction your drawing in certainly helps as well. I always find it so interesting to watch how you analyse and tackle colours in your work. The way you treated this piece still reminds me very much of your painting technique, which I guess makes sense. I'm just surprised considering how different the mediums are! It turned out so beautiful though. You managed to capture such a softness in her expression, but the colours are so strong. It's amazing! Can I ask where you find all these portrait refs? I'm gonna guess Pinterest? Gorgeous work as usual!

This was exactly what I thought. It looks strangely like watercolour and I guess it's because she approaches the technique the same way. It's like the best of both worlds 😍
I'm really happy that it is a full time video than time-lapse cause most of the artist show time-lapse video cause of which we can't understand everything
" can you mix colored pencils with your finger like graphite?" A) you can use a paper towel (that's dry, obv) to slightly mix, if I'm remembering correctly- but only with wax heavy colored pencils. You will, however, want to use paper town to "lift" up some of the extra shine (wax) to keep mixing the pigments easily. B ) Different Prisma color pencil types have different wax consistency, i.e, making blending easier or not i.e x2 the more pigmented ones tend to have more wax because it can glide more easily onto the paper (most your pencils are of the lighter wax variety- the Prisma's with sharp sides have less wax in them, the round ones are waxier!) C ) I was taught, when learning colored pencils, to draw with them in tight circles (for my BFA illustration classes), this allows a smooth application of the pigmented wax and for easier blending with other pigments. In the end, it looks like a painting (of sorts) because the pigments are perfectly blended (which isn't really your style, but, alas!). When using them like this it is more like mixing pigments, add white to wash out an area, blend colored pencils ontop of one another for a new pigment, etc- sorta like paint (: But always remember, you can always go darker, but you can't bring back a pure white! Always start with your darks. I love your style and approach to pencils- prettier and leaves more to the imagination, looks so effortless. These are just some tips I had to pay over 50K for at an art school for, Maybe they'll benefit someone just starting with Prisma colored pencils.

You should definitely do more of these, perhaps starting with a faint watercolor under painting to model shapes, color temperatures. It might make feeling your way through the drawing go faster so that the sensation of slogging through the beginning phases doesn’t feel so tortuous. Chris, I absolutely love how you resolved all the issues presented by the lack of information in the reference photo, and ended up with a drawing glowing with color and life. This was such a great video and so fun to watch! I’ve used colored penciled a lot throughout art school and beyond, it’s one of my favorite mediums, especially used on top of watercolor. When you were talking about not being able to see yourself using them for a finished illustration because of the scratchy texture, a couple things came to mind that I thought might be helpful: I sharpen my pencils a LOT to keep the tips really pointed so I can do light even “washes” of color. Once they get dull it starts skipping across the paper texture more and you get that scratchy feel (which can be cool looking if that’s what you’re intending). I also use smoother textured surfaces to work on, like hot press watercolor paper, Bristol board, and when I was in school the standard class requirement was Strathmore 100% cotton rag illustration board (super thick and versatile surface for almost any medium). Love watching you experiment and have fun making art! This came out absolutely gorgeous. 😊
Thank you so much for keeping the reference photo up while you completed this piece. It helps me understand why you are using the colors you choose. Very helpful! 👏🙌👍

I love working with colored pencils. Your drawing turned out perfect. 😍😍 I actually tried doing a (sort of) portrait-study/more-like-a-screencap-redraw-thing the other day, and I like how it turned out. I kinda wish I could post a pic, but alas~ You are so good at capturing the different saturations and hues in the pictures!.. I'm just a "use a bunch of skin colors for the face" person, I never think of using blue, and green and purple...
So many colours! 😍 this turned out so amazing, it was pretty cool before you added the eyes...but they brought so much life to the piece. You really captured the expression. I used coloured pencils for the first time “properly” last week to draw some mushrooms and I was surprised by how much I loved them. And this has inspired me even more 😀
YYeesssss y dont any other youtubers post content like this. i am also trying to learn how to use my new prismacolored pencils and whenever i look on youtube i only see animal portraits and giant extremely realistic illustrations!!
Heya Chris! Ahhhh I love your work so so so much! Seeing your style translated in coloured pencils is such a treat - I hope you feel like making more coloured pencil pieces in the future :D I totally relate to wanting time to pause though - I wish for that on a daily basis aha. Btw, I‘m a SuriNoel fan too! definitely one of my fave cute channels, all their adorable personalities are so fun to watch and the storytelling is so sweet. While I’m working though I actually binge-watch a lot of horror let’s-players videos (SuperGreatFriend, CJUGames, John Wolfe), sometimes mixed in with other random topics in my recommends (mostly game lets-plays overall though). Recently I’ve also started going through some of Polygon’s gaming stuff and that’s been fun.
The reason why I don’t use colour pencils often is that it takes forever to layer them! I’ll be old and grey before I’m finished with one drawing if I were to use only colour pencils. The main way I use them is to layer on top of water colour or toned paper. Makes it all a lot faster!
Love love love this video !! It’s so nice to see someone willing to try something out rather than coming out with something «“perfect”! Ur art is amazing ,remember it’s alright to not feel happy with drawings.make sure u take breaks!! We r all hère for u ❤️
I love that video and your art style. It even translates to colored pencils. I wish I wouldn't rely on outlines and could make it look like a painting instead an illustration. If you would suddenly decide to make more pencil videos I wouldn't object. ;D Nice job and thanks for being an inspiration (yes, even when you struggle yourself).
This is absolutely gorgeous. Don't panic, with your skills ypu can do whatever. I like the drawing much better than the photo and once i saw the photo i thought it was gorgeous!
I will probably see this video about three, seven, nine, ten times because for me it's magic it's magic the way you make painting create shapes create colors create gesture!
Prismacolour Premier are one of the softest pencils. My favorite. They blend very well. They are high wax based though so you can get a wax bloom but there are ways to avoid/fix that. Oil based pencils are harder but build up easily in more layers without wax bloom but are much harder pencil cores and take more pressure. Have you tried pastel pencils? They are one of my favorite mediums and I find them very forgiving and very soft. You did a fantastic job here on your coloured pencil portrait. I love the glow and realism you achieved with student grade pencils.
i truly love your style! you are so talented, your portraits are really great, i really enjoy watching your studies, i hope we get to see them more often!

You are so good at capturing the different saturations and hues in the pictures!..
And this has inspired me even more 😀
Wow, that's great. I recently painted this girl with pencils too. Red hair and bright blue eyes always inspire me.
me: colored pencils
chris hong art: pencil crayons
also I love your art uwu
YYeesssss y dont any other youtubers post content like this. i am also trying to learn how to use my new prismacolored pencils and whenever i look on youtube i only see animal portraits and giant extremely realistic illustrations!!
A really nice rendition, so much better than the photo. Hope you continue with coloured pencils (in America) crayons in English!
Look at 20:00. Beautiful, right?
There’s still 15 mins left.
insane.
What coloring style is this
I love your drawings, they look simple but complicated at the same time
I love watching these type of videos its really therapeutic for me cause i have anxiety and the music is soo calming. 😍and I learn a lot from it also
This is such a great way to work. Thank's for sharing your art. Also keep it coming.
magical! i could watch this stuff all day, every day! loved the music too.
YOU ARE REALLY GOOD AND YOU HAVE THE FEELING OF COLORING!A MAZING JOB WITHOUT EVEN BLENDING THEM,
I enjoyed the process my dear. I like it!☺️❤️
Stay awesome and God bless.🙏🏻
i love how you talk in your videos already! dont have to change anything XD you just sound really genuine and your art is awesome!
If you get high quality colored pencils. Definitely go for faber castell polychromos.
Color pencils are really my kryptonite. I hope to see more!
This was one of my favorite pieces of yours on Instagram :) watching this come to life in “real” time was mesmerizing & informative. Thanks!
She is absolutely gorgeous, i love your use of colour 💜
The reason why I don’t use colour pencils often is that it takes forever to layer them! I’ll be old and grey before I’m finished with one drawing if I were to use only colour pencils. The main way I use them is to layer on top of water colour or toned paper. Makes it all a lot faster!
Love love love this video !! It’s so nice to see someone willing to try something out rather than coming out with something «“perfect”! Ur art is amazing ,remember it’s alright to not feel happy with drawings.make sure u take breaks!! We r all hère for u ❤️
It looks so cool, so rainbowlike, but in any way stylish and magical 💛
I love that video and your art style. It even translates to colored pencils. I wish I wouldn't rely on outlines and could make it look like a painting instead an illustration. If you would suddenly decide to make more pencil videos I wouldn't object. ;D Nice job and thanks for being an inspiration (yes, even when you struggle yourself).
I've been trying to give myself permission to use more lines in my work actually, but I understand what you mean! thanks so much for watching!🧡
The color is so good!🧡
Leyendecker meets colorpencils. Master ejecution and the color combination is something I only could dream but not put in practice.
I'm a beginner in color pencil drawing and I'm having a hard time identifying the color that I should use. Thanks for this. Enjoyed watching it. 👍
So beautiful you art is so mesmerizing, and your hard work to get to where you are at now shows through immensely. Super well done!
Love this!! It’s just so beautiful and soft on the eyes while being interesting
I love your work and the fact that you watch SuriNoel as well just elevated my love for you🌸💕
haha I knew I couldn't be the only one who watches them here!😆😘
I love this colored pencil technique. Beautiful
Watching your creative process and listen to your chat and draw is a real good moment everytime. Thank you for making video like this :D
Very nice. I’m digging the Rockwell quality of the drawing.
looks amazing! 🖤
i’m feeling inspired now
Well done! You captured her very nicely.
This is magic??... how??... amazing!! this is soooo inspiring. also a proof that, if you enjoy doing something, it will bring joy to others!
I love when you do art and you are talking .
Absolutely lovely Chris! Please let up on yourself...you are an amazing artist!!
So gorgeous. You are so calming to watch and listen to. You are an amazing UA-camr!
I am so trying this out! Nice seeing you use a different medium. Wowww 🧡
I like how you use color! It's really pretty.
i truly love your style! you are so talented, your portraits are really great, i really enjoy watching your studies, i hope we get to see them more often!
Honestly i need a sticker pack of all these colored pencil portraits 🤍
You are so good at portraits!you catch the likeness perfectly, yet they have a really lovely style and strong personality which is definitely your own !🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
OMG This drawing is soooo soooo soooo COOL
I love the way you used color!
