This is the greatest run I've ever seen at a GDQ. Combines great gaming, with a hype crowd. I wish every game could be like this, but of course it's special to dram. poo's honesty at the end is amazing.
Maxi Diaz there's a frame-perfect trick where you can jump off of the button. It doesn't save any frames, it doesn't do anything beneficial to the game, it's just a frame-perfect trick that you can do for fun.
Kaizo Mario Maker levels exist, they're just super hard, not trolls. You're mixing them up with dumb enemy-filled levels, or those "pick a door/pipe" levels.
Well, those are not designed for Super Mario Maker, specifically for 100-man runs, because you're supposed to die a lot in those. Which is why you have infinite lives on kaizo rom hacks.
Poo and Carl are honestly two of the best runners. Both have great personalities, all whilst having such a grasp of their respective games, respectful but also willing to be cheeky. Plus, that bromance. So good. Thanks for the great run!
Oh goodness! I heard them when they said it but I didn't realize what it meant. I was picturing the words, "less than 3," so that heart didn't make sense to me! Thank you! lol
Panga was doing this before Nintendo decided to even make Mario Maker. If anything. It is a surprise that Nintendo didn't bitchslap Panga for some copyright bs. And yes Nintendo has been known to do this.
Aw man Poo. Not only do I enjoy watching your streams but you are a scarily good entertainer. I always appreciate runners who not only talk but joke around as they run, but you take that to the next level showing how much you care about the event and how much you can have fun with what you do. You perfectly capture what this event is about: Speedrunning, charity and fun.
Poo, that speech... chokes me up every time I watch it. Congrats on the run, you did awesome. Fun to watch, and lots of energy throughout. If you keep playing, we'll keep watching.
Poo, you are such an awesome person and YOU have become an inspiration for a lot of people including me. Watching your videos has become a part of my daily routine, and I always love your positivity as well as your moments of rage. Keep up the awesome work man! Also, Marbles Marbles Marbles Marbles Marbles
Poo, I normally don't comment on videos but the mini speech you said after your running, it was fantastic...and also you really appreciate people's donation and you keep a great atmosphere among people, by far this was the best run this year at AGDQ keep it up, this 2017 is all yours.
So first it was Poo doing a run, so I was like, this video is about to be hella dope, and then I heard Proto and I was like this about to be an EXTRA hella dope run. My two favorite runners in one video? Damnnnnn. And then I saw the couch and I was like DAAAMMNNNNNN and then I saw the run and I said damn again slightly more enthusiastically. It just went like that through the whole video. Great run, Poo.
Way to go Poo. We're all really proud of you, keep kicking butt! Thanks for all the entertainment, and thanks for letting us all be part of something that means so much to you. ^_^
Hey Poo! I unfortunately missed the entirety of AGDQ and didn't have a chance to watch any of the runs live. I just now found time to start catching up, and your run had to be the first thing I watched. This was very, very impressive and just a ton of fun to watch. Not only was this a fantastic run of a difficult hack (played with the pressure of a live audience, no less!), but you made it a fun experience for those of us watching (that goes for everyone on the couch, too!). This run and your general attitude exemplifies what I think makes the speedrunning community great - while it can be seen as competitive (who can get the best times), it's more of a collaborative effort, finding new paths or strats and sharing them to make everyone better. Even more than that, it's a great bonding experience, having a great time working with friends doing something you love. I really liked how you tried to show that to the audience, pausing to show them something cool, explaining how another runner found a faster route, or taking an intentional death to highlight Panga's sadistic qualities. Overall this was just really fun to watch, and I could tell you guys were having a great time. I keep missing the boat on attending any of these events, but I'd really like to show up and hang out more with the community. Hopefully soon I'll get the chance. :)
Damn you poobear...I wasn't thinking I was gonna tear up. I too was in a bad accident about a year and a half ago, hit by a drunk driver. Rolled my truck 7 times, I was actually dead. The emts threw a hail Mary and after coming back from the dead, I went out again. They got me back again, lost me again and finally got me back for good. And I get what you mean about feeling lost. Nothing I used to enjoy makes me happy anymore. I went back to my job that I used to love but now I just don't enjoy it. I'm trying to remember how to be happy, but it's not there. I really appreciate the speedrunning community, and all the fundraising you guys do for good causes.
I just looked it up, and AGDQ's 2017 speedruns brought in more than 2 million dollars. What an incredible community this is, showing that gamers can break their stigmas and do what they love for a great cause. :')
***** Overpayment to the organizers is something many charities unfortunately have in common... Though I'm not defending that particular salary, I am cool with these people being paid. They do good work, and they can't always do it for free.
Should people not get paid fair wages for fair work? I am confused by your argument. Also, you can look up exactly how much anyone in a charity is being paid at charitywatch. PCF is actually one of the top rate, but hey, thats just facts and not something I saw on a reddit post:)
Grand POOBear You misunderstood me, I think. I'm in total support people being paid for the work they do. I was only saying overpayment to top organizers was a trend in charities, not even that it applies here, I wouldn't know.
No matter how many times I've watched you set new WRs in games, this is always the run I come back to. This was the one that got me into Mario streamers/UA-camrs.
Guys so glad i watched this. The runner has such energy and got everyone so hype that it was really fun to watch. also the emotion showing how great the gaming community can support each other really got to me. awesome run and great work GDQ!
Absolutely loved all of this, Poo, went to a great cause and was an incredibly heartfelt speech at the end, then Dode with the sub-10 on star. I've only recently started to watch Mario games and you are one of the most polarizing people I have seen play, just have much love for you man
Super Mario World is one of my favorite games of all time and it’s great to see how many different versions have been created over the years because of the overwhelming love that people have for the game, Super Mario Forever!
Watching this again in 2022- holy cow hacks have changed so much. What's really cool is how much every runner contributed just by giving each hack exposure, which has contributed to what we have now, either in inspiring creators or becoming creators themselves. My other takeaway from this video is holy shit, we used to be young. Like, it's crazy to think of a time where hacks didn't use custom music or have crazy gimmicks- that the difficulty came from the placement of kaizo blocks, forcing a more uncomfortable jump, or even a double shell jump as being a "really hard trick" when you see every Mario player doing them consistently both in hacks and in Mario maker daily. It's pretty incredible that the community has come so far.
At first, I really didn't intend on watching the entire video, now its 4 : 30am and I've accidentally finished it, I just couldn't help myself. Fantastic job.
I've recently got into speed running. Haven't found what I want to dedicate my time to yet. But the more I watch you just playing Mario Maker makes me more interested. Just purchased it due to you, Carl, and Ryu. Working through Kaizo College and hopefully will be able to be able to play at this level if not speedrunning. This was an awesome run and enjoyed just seeing a group of friends having fun. Keep it up.
Poo, just wanted to say I love your stream, don't usually have time to watch you live, but I love watching your videos whether here or on Twitch! Thanks for the entertainment! Keep up the awesome content!
Amazing job! Such a pleasure to watch. I finally got mario maker and after 3 marathon playing sessions I have a whole new level of appreciation for what you can do. Keep crushing it.
