I LOVE that you found freedom and are not tied to anything/anyone. I am definitely moving in this direction. THanks for sharing!
Thanks, lovely! 🧡✨
This is a beautiful spread. The stickers are stunning. Lots of inspiration. 💗
Thank you! 🧡
White out covers the words when you have thin see through washi. I love my hobonichi cousin! Great video!
I like frixion pens so I can erase, lol. The Minimal Sophisticate just did a pen test video. She uses the Uni SXR-7 Jetstream Ballpoint pen refill and Uni Alpha Gel Jetstream 0.7. If I’m not mistaken they didn’t streak and held up well with highlighting.
dog "do you wanna build a snowman" lol so cute
Exactly that 😄
I am extreeemely late to this video, but I really enjoyed your video, and wanted to tell you. I love the Cousin - it's an incredible bit of design! I have found that the paper works with fountain pens or ballpoints, but I don't use gel pens. If I need to highlight something, say in the weekly section, I use a Uniball Multi. I have never found a gel pen that doesn't spread or smudge when highlighted!
I'm going to look for some of your other videos, and I hope you're still loving your Cousin. I know lots of people in the community switch from planner to planner, so I guess it's not a given! 😄
I use the Clena Energel pen. It's never smeared in my Hobo and I've used it in my Wonderland 222, which also uses tamoe river paper. By far my favorite pens with very cheap refills.
You get the dry Winter, and we have the SUPER wet Summer in the Australian eastern states - I don't believe it's almost Feb and we haven't and to water the grass, and it's the greenest I've ever seen it! My allergies have been doing weird things too - so many thunderstorms, and that apparently means I lose my voice when we are bout to get one - such a weird weather year.
Love the spread, makes me want to think about journaling again - thanks for sharing!
Oh gosh that is weird weather! Hope your allergies don't give you too much trouble! Thanks for watching the video! Take care 🧡✨
I love those washi stickers. Definitely going to check those out. I got my Hobonichi in the mail last Friday and I'm really enjoying it so far. I'm mostly using it as a creative journal and a way to use up my sticker and washi stash. I did a pen test on one of the blank grid pages in the back and I noticed some dry faster than others. So far, I'm mostly using the free pen that came with my order & some mild liners. I did find that it was best to highlight first, then write on top & you definitely have to be patient pulling up stickers. But I'm definitely happy with my purchase. 😁
Oh I'm so glad you got yours! Weren't you waiting on the Animal Crossing one? Were you able to get it? I'm glad you're enjoying it! It really is a great planner even if it insists on teaching us pen patience 😄
Love the colors and the whimsicalness(?) of these stickers. I'm not into the nichi planners because the pages are so thin. But I can appreciate watching others use them and their plan with me's. The thing I love about you is that you do different things besides flowers and boxes.
I appreciate you watching the video! And yes, flowers and boxes are not really my thing 😄
Hey!! Hope things are going well. Beautiful spread!! Peace and love 🥰
I’ve got the Hobonichi five year planner and I use the Tul metallic gel pens. They dry super fast and I have not had any smearing! I really love them! I also like to use the rub-on stickers because you cannot even feel them on the page! I also have used a Tombow brush pen to highlight after I write with them
I can relate to all the things you have said about what you love about the hobonichi because I am feeling the same way about my bullet journal.
Sarasa mark on pen dries super fast and you can use a highlighter over! That being said I use fountain pens and ink joy pens and all gel pens basically lol now and I just leave the book open on my desk and just have to be mindful not to rub my hand over where I just wrote and it works!
Definitely recommend blotter paper!!! I use a sharpie S-Gel and all I do is just put the blotting paper over the freshly wrote section and carry on writing💕 also I mayyyyy have just bought washi stickers...... thank you
Zebra Sarasa Dry pens work super well! They dry literally instantly haha.
I love Hobonichi and have been using all sizes since 2017! I love the fact that I can do watercolor in it! I do everything in my hobo… plan, write, paint, journal, add photos, ephemera. It is my life book!
You will get the feel of the paper but for me, Pigma Micron is my go to pen. Yes, it needs a bit of drying time as well, but I can easily cover the area in which I have written, with a paper towel or blotting paper…then continue to write. I often just stick the pencil board in the book and close it right after writing. No issues doing that. I highlight first, then write over the highlighter.
If you like fountain pens, my favorite ink is the Platinum Carbon waterproof ink. Archival and dries pretty quickly! Enjoy your Hobonichi…. It will keep you feeling creative and inspired! I love looking back on my stacks…my life♥️
I use the pen you get free with the planners from Hobonichi. I change the ink to the 0.7 refill. It doesn't smear and you can highlight over it right away. Ballpoint pens seem to be the best solution for this paper in my opinion.
TheCoffeeMonsterzCo has a lot of videos using her Cousin. Helen uses a lot of different pens. I’d definitely check her out!
I love using the Energel Clena pens. They have needle points to them in various sizes. Definitely highlight prior to writing. This is my 1st year using Hobonichi and I love how light it is. Portability is definitely a plus. I use the Cousin Avec as my catch-all, a weeks mega for my fitness/on-the-go planner. I love them both.
Love your video! Curious to know how Hobonichi Cousins are personalised by each user. I’m so happy to hear you enjoy your Hobonichi Cousin! 😍 Pen recommendation: thinner nib/points are best to avoid long wait time. I personally love my Kaweco fountain pen with an EF nib.
Oh wow Alana! I was so excited to see this video! You were one of the first planner content creators I started following when I first began to decoratively plan! I started with happy planner because I had fallen in love with the disc bound first and then all the stickers! I have since moved on (I still have a couple of big Hp disc bounds I use) and eventually found my way to the Hobonichi excited for the monthly, weekly, and daily all in one! I’m so happy to see you working with other planners too! I might still decorate a little more like HP planners but I definitely have fallen for the Hobo and other bound notebooks. I use Frixon erasable pens. Many colors and they don’t smear! Great content as always!❤️😃
Thanks for being here and continuing to watch my videos! 🧡 I'm so happy to hear you love the Hobonichi! It truly is such a fantastic planner!
i use energel clena .3 .4 and .5 i dont smear but i put hilighter first and then write over it
I totally love this! Love the inspired by portion of your planner! And the proud of myself! I’m loving my new passion planner and I’ve gotten so much more creative with it than I did with my happy planners. So fun!
So happy to hear you're having a great time with your Passion Planner! I couldn't agree more, it's so freeing and has so much creative potential!
Thanks! I ordered the washi stickers!!! Can’t wait to use them. I got my first hobonichi planner this year. I got the cousin Avek. I’m really enjoying it. For ink I use my Villabeautifful pens. And I also highlight before I use ink. I’ve also been using watercolor paints in the bottom layer and after it dries then journal on top. I’d love to see more plan with Me using your Hobonichi cousin.
Oh watercolor sounds fun! Enjoy the washi stickers! They're so lovely!
This is my first year using the hobonichi cousin and it is proving to be a challenge. A fun one! Learning how it will work best for me and how to decorate it. Sweet Kawii designs has stickers made just for this planner and I'm super excited to try them out. As far as pens I'm learning that too. Being lefthanded I have learned to be very careful and patient for letting them dry. Lol I am enjoying using my zig clean color dot pens. Thank you sharing your ideas, it is very helpful. :)
There is definitely some amount of learning to it but it is such a great planner! I'm glad to hear you've already found some things that work for you! Thanks for watching! 🧡✨
I use my Platinum Century 3776 fountain pen in my cousin and it rarely smears. It only take a few seconds with the platinum carbon ink and it dries. Have you looked into blotting paper? After you write, you could just sit it on top and the paper will help with drying that ink. I hope you can find a pen that works best for you in your cousin!
I use pig a micron pens. And a zebra v.301 fountain pen. If I know I need to go quickly and hilight a lot, the microns work great. But if I’m being a bit more intentional, the fountain pen looks better.
I’ve used all sorts of pens - gel pens, fountain pens, brush pens, fine tip pens, highlighters, markers and watercolour! To not smear I either just wait, or I put a piece of paper over the ink so I can move my hand without rubbing the wet ink. For highlighting - highlight first! And wait to dry. I also use the same piece of paper as a writing board or if I want to close my planner but not sure if everything is dry I out that in there so the wet ink goes into the lose paper and not the opposite page.
Honestly I never thought of this as a con, it’s just something I did for me to keep my OCD happy 😆
Fountain pens work good and Micron pens, energetic clean and Ink joy 100 as these aren’t gel ink. I also use the Vic quick dry pens and the G2 pens. I’m left handed so I do get some smearing on occasion but not often and not a lot. If you use highlighters or Tombow markers, the trick is to use it before writing. Highlighting over gel ink will smear pretty bad. I hope this helps.🙂
Gel pens are evil on Tamoe River paper but it's great for fountain pens and some markers will work too. If you want to highlight or go over the top with a marker, use something like a Pigma micron.
I always use Pigma Microns or my fine tip fountain pen. Le Pen works well too.
The ballpoint pen that came with them if you order from Japan is mostly what I use so that I can flip and write. Microns work well and pens like that. Also, some paper to put under your hand and to stick between pages you shut works for more wet pens. Like, if I use my fountain pen, I then stick in a paper to blot it.
I also am a fan of thin frixion pens in here. .5 is good, but be careful not to go too ham on the erasing. I found it can erase the previous page with the .4 pen due to the thin paper.
Sarasa dry ink pen, I get them from Cloth and Paper. And if you highlight first and then go back and write on it you shouldn’t have smearing
The uni jetstream pens don't smear and you can highlight over it.
Put down a blotting paper over what you've already written but fountain pens are best for the paper also the energel clena in 0.4
Pen and Gear ball point or pentel zebra refills. Both are very inexpensive and works. Both can be bought at Walmart or Target.
Try pigma microns or something similar :) they dry almost immediately. :)
Look Jet Pen page...
Hi, regarding the smearing of ink on the page. A large part of the reason why a Hobonichi Planner is so pricey apart from the design, is simply that it uses the Tomoe River paper. It's a specialty Japanese paper, that's most prized for its ability to display the unique qualities of fountain pen ink. Most especially, Tomoe River Paper is great for sheening inks, specifically because the paper doesn't absorb the ink and dry it out too fast. The paper coating that keeps the ink wet for slightly longer is largely regarded as a pro--because it also means that even with a light wash of watercolor or anything wet, the ink won't bleed through to the other page. But it's a thing to keep in mind that it's a give-and-take thing. The paper was specifically designed for that reason, so it isn't necessarily a negative, but it can be something that doesn't make sense for you if you don't use fountain pens, and may be a huge hindrance to your experience. There are pens with drier inks, even in the realm of fountain pens there are inks that dry faster than others, so exploring those may be a huge help for you if you still really love the Hobonichi layout and want to continue using it as your primary planner.
Pen.... Sarasa dry for sure
Sarasa Mark on.
And you can highlight with the mildliners over it as long as you give it a few seconds, better if you keep writing, let it dry and come back and highlight.
