I retrofitted that same mower with a 8 horse Honda motor from a generator 15 years ago, I’m still using it on my lawn today. Would love to have double that horsepower though!!
How kool I was asking a friend what ever happened to Yazoo mowers about 3 yrs ago.when I was growing up they were everywhere ,most pro lawn guys used them, then they seemed to vanish love it and G*D bless you too!
I have this exact mower and had a throttle contrl/ carb spring come loose. With no reference for what it looked like before, could you share with me a photo of the spring set up behind the air filter? It would be life saving! I can get it cranked but cannot control the choke/ throttle anymore
I have a very similar mower made by Maxim, up the road from Yazoo (Jackson, Mississippi) in Sebastopol, MS. It has a big Honda commercial engine from the factory. The weight on the little 16" bicycle wheels destroyed the wheel bearings within a month -- had to go press in some heavy duty sealed bearings!

Yes heavy but more power usually means more weight
