Such a naturally raw talent w incredible vocal Nuance, control, range, power & emotion! Plus his profound lyrics… Chris is the most gifted singer of the current era in every level. Breathtaking
Again..... 1 of my absolute things on UA-cam, is watching people discover Chris Stapleton for the first time! Same reactions every time and it never gets old!!
I know. It is becoming an addiction and yet I am still awed by Chris my self. To take a song like this with very few words and is able to take you to another place with words like I cry.. not sure anyone else could do thst
I love Chris Stapleton, I love the fact live he sounds I think even better. That's hard to find in todays music industry unfortunately. He definitely has a god given voice. To me he isn't country, more of a mix with soul and blues tones. My mother is a big blues fan and I had her listen to this song and she just can't get past his country roots and doesn't get it. I don't understand because he is amazing regardless if you like country or not.
The first time I saw Chris sing was in 2006 at a bluegrass festival at Graves Mountain lodge in central Virginia with a band called the Steeldrivers. He left the band shortly after that to pursue his solo career...the rest is history. Glad I had the opportunity to see him perform in another genre before he became the mega star he is today. At the concert, the band played 30 minute sets and signed autographs between sets. I got to meet him and He is exactly who he is onstage. Look up the steel drivers “blue side of the mountain”,”if it hadn’t been for love” or my favorite “midnight train to Memphis” if you want a real glimpse of the Kentucky artist in his true element. You are welcome.
The first song he released that I remember was 'what are you listening to?' His wife morgane encouraged him to step out front and be an artist instead of writing for everyone else. She is the woman singing with him and Justin on the first video and is an amazing singer in her own right. They do a version of you are my Sunshine where she takes lead and a version of Amanda where her harmonies are strong.
You guys need to check out Chris’s song “Daddy Don’t Pray Anymore.” I discovered this song the week my daddy passed away. We played it at his funeral. When I looked up the history, Chris’s wife Morgan was getting ready for some event they need to go to and he was rushing her. She said go sit down and write a song. He sat down and wrote the song in like 15 minutes. You guys really need to check it out! It’s an emotional song that you need to be prepared for, but this is something this talented man pulled out of his body in 15 minutes. This song is one that all of us can relate to at some point in our life.
Chris is from Kentucky btw. Breakout song was Tennessee whiskey. He was writing hits for country singers for 15 years and his wife told him to stop making other people famous and he should do it for himself. He had extreme stage fright which is why he hadn't done this before. Chris is God given talent you can't hid it. He's amazing. My husband says Joe cocker too he sounds like him. React to live from the CMA awards performing "cold" it's fantastic
Chris is from Paintsville, Kentucky. That region has gifted the music world with the likes of Patty Loveless, Dwight Yoakum, Ricky Skaggs, Keith Whitley, The Judds, Tyler Childers and numerous talented singers, songwriters and instrumentalists.
Appalachian Queen lol yeah I’m from Johnson country right next to paintsville. I’ve grown up listening to all of them. I have family in all the surrounding areas
I agree 100%, something about that region. The little town in Indiana I’m from has a lot of people from eastern Kentucky in it, and so many bands, just a lot of musically gifted people in it.
Don’t forget Loretta Lynn and Crystal Gale. Greasy Creek ( Lynn and Gale’s home town) is a small town in Paintsville, KY. My mother’s land was adjacent to the Webb land. So much talent has come out of those mountains. It’s a beautiful area.
Chris stapleton had a grammy nominated Bluegrass band. Also, wrote many top songs for big artist for years. The famous people all knew who he was. He had many of chances to break out just was living like a king off of his songs he wrote for others.
He's a songwriter... So he wrote hit songs... Then Morgane told him he should just record his own songs... So he did & thank God for that... He performed in a blue grass band also, can't think of the name but they were good too... He's a phenomenal talent...
That old guitar is what many artists see as quality. The move to Nashville and the search mis c stores for them! And he is 1 guy on a stage in this video. His style hasn't changed and either has his attitude. He's just a great guy who can play and sing like this. Chris has been known in all genres as a writer. He's written for country artists and even Adele! He was hired to play at Justin Timberlake's Birthday by his wife. He was known also as a record producer in Nashville!
His breakout I think was Tennesse Whiskey. This guy can sing any genre, he's so awesome, mostly country, soul, r and b rock, he has 8 grammars, and many more awards, too many too count.😊
This song, and especially this version of this song, give me the same vibe as "Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers. Two men unashamedly expressing their sadness in the absence of their women. Man I love this.
i first heard Chris Stapleton was in a bluegrass band called the Steeldrivers but i think the song that really made his career was Tennessee Whisky he is one of the greatest singers out right now his voice is very soulful
He has been writing songs for years for large artists. His wife told him he start singing his own songs. Check out his very earliest song I know of that he has sung. It’s Fool me again It was on a song writers cruise!
I love the look you two exchanged as soon as Chris saaang one note! He's unbelievably talented. :) Chris wrote Sometimes I Cry, and although he didn't write Tennessee Whiskey, he arranged it with its infectious blues and subtle Southern soul/rock sound.
Chris merged two songs for his version of Tennessee Whiskey. The Country song, Tennessee Whiskey was written by Dean Dillon and Chris takes those lyrics and marries them with the basic musical structure of blues song, "I'd Rather Go Blind", performed by Etta James.
Yes he wrote songs for other artists and played with the Steel drivers. He gives credit to his wife Morgan for urging him to step out of the shadows. You can see the way he looks at her as they sing Tennessee Whiskey together live at Austin City Limits.
Your reactions are fantastic. React to What Are You Listening To live..Chris Stapleton was also in a band called the Steeldrivers, which is bluegrass, and a band called The Jompson Brothers , which is rock. Also check out his Tiny Desk Concert series..He sings with his wife Morgane , she is a fantastic singer in her own right..Love you guys. Keep up the great work.
He's from Lexington where I've lived for the last five years. Home of the best college basketball team ever! And lots of beautiful horses! I'm moving back home from there soon but I'll still be in Kentucky where I was born and raised!
His big break was the performance y’all did with him and Timbelake at the CMA’s. He had sold 70,000 albums the day before that. After the performance and his 3 CMA victories he sold 600,000 albums the next 48 hours. He’s been off to the moon ever since. Did it the old school way, through performance not social media. Keep up the good work fellas.
EMN emn Not many people are in the music industry. I realize he was known by some before that. I was a fan of the Steeldrivers and saw him for $12 in a venue that held 300 people before the CMA’s . After the CMA’s I saw him play to a sold out Turner field after the Braves game which no one showed up to until the 7th inning because everyone was there to see him. So, yes people knew of him but the CMA’s were absolutely his big break. Like I said he sold 70,000 albums before it and then sold 600,000 only 48 hours later. Doesn’t take a genius to examine that and determine it was a huge break for him.
@EMN emn my comment was about the majority of the general public being unaware of him not people that grew up with him lol. I grew up with Morgane not that its relevant to my original comment and I can assure you that if you ask them they will tell you themselves that his career absolutely blasted off into anther stratosphere the very hour after that CMA performance. I apologize for triggering you that was not my intent.
Im pretty sure the year he performed with Timberlake is the year he won like 3 awards at the CMA's including Best male vocalist. The JT thing is not what made him blow up, since the album had gone platinum before then, it was a great performance with JT though , just not the career maker you are making it out to be. He had also been nominated for multiple Grammy awards with the steeldrivers and had won a Grammy for best bluegrass album.
@@shackdiesel225 not sure how one wins 3 CMA awards and hasn't broken out till after that but you could be write. I know I was thinking at the time who is this guy so maybe a lot of people like me. I kinda go in and out of country and back to 70's rock especially southern rock.
He was behind the scenes for years writing songs for everyone, even Adele. He had a bluegrass band and a southern rick band for a while. Really broke out when he performed with Justin Timberlake at the cma’s.
He was the front man for a blue grass country band called The Steeldrivers He wrote a song Adele had a #1 with You two should check out the steeldrivers song "where rainbows never die" And my personal favorite "Angel of the night" The album Traveler was his break out album won album of the year Grammy with that, also the song "fire away" is incredible. He's the man! WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

If you check out him with the Steeldrivers please check out "If it hadn't been for love" the live performance" - that's the first exposure I had to his awesome talent. I believe I read Chris is from Paintsville, KY(Johnson County, eastern KY coal town- not far from where Loretta Lynn is from) - my husband's family was from Paintsville - it's beautiful; sadly my husband passed away many years ago but I often think he would have loved Chris and the fact he was from there, I don't think I've heard of another big "star" from there.
For me, Chris’ breakout song was “Tennessee Whiskey”, which he didn’t write, but as far as I’m concerned is the best version. He did write, “Sometimes I Cry”. Morgane Stapleton, his wife, has a beautiful old time country voice, like from the 30s, or 40s. Her harmonies with Chris are amazing.
He’s been around writing for years. He had done recordings earlier both with The Jompson Bros and The Steeldrivers. His wife finally convinced him to do it on his own.i think my two favorite songs he’s done are “Whiskey and You”, and “Either Way”.
He has wrote songs for years for other artists. Then his wife convinced him to break out and that why at the CMA's so many artists were loving his music. They've known for a long time how good he is.
It's soul and blues,in my South Philly,PA opinion (lol, only said that because I wanted my place of birth known too LoL 🤣) Yes, Chris Stapleton gets your soul and calms it 💙
Chris was also in several bands including a bluegrass band and a rock band. Yall should definitely react to the song he did with Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars.
He was with the Steeldrivers for years and years. He wrote some songs for other artists at the same time. He also was with another band as well. He left the Steeldrivers and the rest is history.
Vocal coaches call his scream as distortion. Just a vocal term used for him and Janice Joplin as well. I subbed with you guys today. Love your reactions.
SO MUCH THIS. Marc Broussard is amazing! From when he was pretty much a kid doing "Home" to more recent work doing covers of soul classics like "Cry to Me," it's ALL beautifully done. His voice is simply incredible.
He was with a band previously, they were called the Steele Drivers and were a more Grass than Blue butt were epic. Check out Chris with Steele Drivers on a tune called Midnight Train to Memphis, won’t be dissapointed
Listen to Midnight train to Memphis from SNL. He's with another guy Sturgill Simpson. That performance will blow you away. It gives you great guitar play and both of their voices are amazing.
Marc Broussard is a awesome singer Y'all should check him out. And Drake White . I heard someone describe Drake as if Marc Broussard and Chris Stapleton had a baby you would get Drake White
We can thank JT for him becoming bigger. He got hired to play for his Birthday party and his wife like you said your writing songs for other artists and winning CMAs so go for it :)
I've become a huge Stapleton fan too. Try "Nobody's Lonely Tonight" . His vocal control and range is f×@%$ing awesome. It's got a really smokey barroom, bluesy vibe. Definitely played it back in the headphones a few times. You can feel that shit lol

90% i think you hit the wrong number ! haha
@@warrenmichael918 90? Try 95
That's nothing new. Yeah, he's great.
98% & I dont think those 2% are still alive
Pure soulful majesty is Chris Stapleton.
Chris Stapleton is a Soul singer, once you listen to him he is in your soul forever.
Chris is transcendent. Don’t stop!!!
He was writing for others ,, but the soul heart , old soul country
Most talented dude alive. Every song is amazing 💯🇺🇸❤️
I second that for Mark Broussard. You guys will be BLOWN AWAY. Just like Chris Stapleton.
He is just great. Raw. No autotune. Reminds me of that young girl Sherlock from Ireland. No autotune. Just terrific
Stapleton is outright AMAZING!! Only god knows where that voice comes from.
It's all in the delivery. And Chris delivers. Sometimes, less really is more, especially when conveying a message through song. He is second to none.
The first time I saw Chris sing was in 2006 at a bluegrass festival at Graves Mountain lodge in central Virginia with a band called the Steeldrivers. Blue Side of the Mountain is so gooooooooood😍
Just him and his guitar, stripped down and raw as hell. The emotion he puts into every syllable makes a person literally feel the song.

Grew up with marc. He was always saying we would be buying his records. He was right.
He lead sang in a Bluegrass band called Steel Drivers for years before he came on the country scene..
Tennessee Whiskey was the big break into mainstream .
The 2015 CMA performance with Justin Timberlake was Chris Stapleton’s big coming out, that was when he was basically introduced to the world
Shoutout Ky. Hopkinsville here
He was in The Steeldrivers for years before the Justin Timberlake performance

Listen to Midnight train to Memphis from SNL. He's with another guy Sturgill Simpson. That performance will blow you away. It gives you great guitar play and both of their voices are amazing.
Tom Reyes that performance is mind blowing
He was getting a degree in engineering and in 2007 decided to go for his music and his wife helped him he is very shy and was shy in stage
Marc Broussard is a awesome singer
Y'all should check him out. And Drake White . I heard someone describe Drake as if Marc Broussard and Chris Stapleton had a baby you would get Drake White
He was in a group called The Steeldrivers. awesome tunes too.
He won the Cmt country music new artist in 2015 I think.
We can thank JT for him becoming bigger. He got hired to play for his Birthday party and his wife like you said your writing songs for other artists and winning CMAs so go for it :)
2013 , when he went from writing to singing ,, was never released
First time I ever heard chris was on the song writers cruise. He was great then. Like 2009?? Ish
I've become a huge Stapleton fan too. Try "Nobody's Lonely Tonight" . His vocal control and range is f×@%$ing awesome. It's got a really smokey barroom, bluesy vibe. Definitely played it back in the headphones a few times. You can feel that shit lol
His breakout was Tennessee Whiskey in 2015!!
