I'm 66 and I totally agree with you on the whole retirement thing. We never know how much time we have. I have no retirement and live off grid in a converted shuttle bus with my two dogs. I realize it's not for everyone but what I wake up to each day is priceless. So.....get busy living or get busy dying ❤🤗 I loved this video!!

I’m also 66, well…in a couple of weeks. Living in a camper van . . . still finishing it out. And I also have no retirement.
I injured my back badly in a car accident in 1977. Spent a lot of years working and trying to work while in pain. I never really made enough to invest. I finally applied for disability in 2017. After 4-1/2 years, I won my case and start receiving SSDI. I used most of my backpay to buy my van outright. I’m really needing to supplement my income and I’ve been thinking about starting a UA-cam channel. Or some kind of online business. Perhaps a website combined with print on demand. Do y’all have any thoughts on me doing something like that at my age? I have pretty good computer skills.

Chris was one of the original you tubers that I used to follow, and I just had such mad respect for how well he dealt with life issues having an RV that would break down. His amazing ability to stay positive was really an inspiration. This match makes so much sense, hope you all continue to have as much happiness as possible.

I think permanently having the 2 vehicles is really ideal because they are basically rooms in a house. Just like we wouldn’t want to live in a 1 room house, we’d like to have a home office to go work etc so you are doing that here. And I would say that the outdoors is another space you have to share, and it’s often changing allowing you to live in different spaces. Amazing!

#1. When the question was asked re: what are you going to do with your “free time” made me laugh a bit. I think you will be working hard to ensure food, warmth, and improvements are continually sustained for your family (the 4 of you). (What I’ve witnessed watching Linnea since beginning her home (vanbuild) is her inability to sit still if work is to be done.) Excited to see the shelter builds, etc. #2: Your man (Cris, wolf/part wolf or not) 😂 makes Linnea smile with goo goo, love in the eyes and she appears even more at peace with herself than I’ve witnessed over the last several awesome years of watching. 3: I’m 10 yrs from “retirement” and you hit the nail on the head!!! Don’t wait for tomorrow. I did. Tomorrow turned into months, months into years, and now over 2 decades have gone! (I wanted to live the nomad lifestyle before it was cool and accepted) My body is shot, all the activities I wanted to do are not possible due to my arthritis, being overweight, and feelings of being “stuck” in a work environment that doesn’t allow even pt remote work. Your UA-cam videos bring me hope that it’s not too late. Lose weight, arthritis will dissipate and I may be able to get out there and explore with my pup! Until then, please know how inspiring you are and I’m super excited to see Chris and your growth. Sorry this was so long winded. Thank you for giving this nomad in heart hope. 😊

I love your videos…i have been following you for a while now, funny thing is, I’m not a van lifer, don’t have a bus, and I don’t live off grid. I live in an apartment in California but I’m somehow drawn to your way of living. I live vicariously through you. First there was Linnea and Akela and then came Chris and Kobuck. You all are the sweetest little family.
I see the kindness, respect, love and space you give to eachother. I’m happy that Akela and Kobuck do get along. It’s like this was all meant to be. I can’t wait to see further videos of all of you together again.

I 100% stand by your view on retirement. I have always felt the same way! being someone that has been through something very traumatic, I am so hyper aware that we aren't promised tomorrow and it seems unreasonable to not live your life and do the things you love NOW. to me it scares me more to think I could die "before my time" and not have enjoyed, than it does to think of being older and having to still work.

I am 71 and have been widowed twice. We weren't able to do anything we wanted to. I tell people all the time to do it now, don't wait. You don't know what each day will bring. I bought a class C to live, not merely exist, with my 6 Shih Tzus. I am not full-time but desire to be.

I love the fact that you don’t tie each other down and are open to each others freedoms, wants and needs. It takes a unique and special person to be like that and I think y’all will work out fine and if you don’t, you’ll most likely be friends. One main thing I hated when I was married was NO freedom and that is why I’ve been single ever since and probably the rest of my life. I hope the best for you both and I can’t wait to follow your travels and adventures! I’m so happy for the dogs too!💙

This is one of my fav videos. Maybe it's the exchange with Chris or you sitting behind him with the knife daring him to say the wrong thing. But, yeah, the Q & A is much better this way instead of LIVE, cause the lag time puts off the natural flow of the video. I started at the beginning and am working my way to the more recent videos. If it's not covered in the North Woods videos, I'd sure like to know how you're keeping things (including the bus/van batteries) charged in the snow when you're not moving them.

Play Fast Track! We made our own board with a Tupperware party bowl with dividers from a thrift store, decks of cards and push pins! There are lots of versions (check them out online), and it was fun to make our camping/travel version with our kid...we used actual geometry to create the playing layout on the lid with Sharpies! Linnea, I have been watching your videos since your build. I am a teacher on the Olympic Peninsula, and I installed a Maxx air fan in my travel trailer because YOU gave me the confidence to do it on my own! Thanks for brightening my world every week! ❤

I love to cook also. And normally id rinse/clean as I was cooking. But now that I live in a camper in the back of my mom's property, I still rinse, but my sink is storage for my dirty dishes also. I have to boil water on my one little stove top burner. It sucks. My mom is getting older and takes care of her disabled brother, and works at a pediatric hospice and rescues, fosters and transports dogs. So she is very busy so I moved into the camper to be closer to her. I love living in the camper with my 2 big dogs and my elderly foster. I wish I could do what you do. I have always wanted to just live simple and travel. Y'all have a blast this winter ❄️ 🥶 and be safe

I totally get and support your view on the 'deferred life plan'. I'm 66. I spent 30+ years 'investing' in retirement. 2008 happened and everything is gone and there were no jobs for people with my qualifications. I'd made too much money and no employer wanted to pay that much AND they felt I wouldn't be happy working for less money. All I own is my van which I'm currently building out (obtained with inheritance money) and a very small Social Security income. So yeah ,.. live for today. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. Live simple. Live good. Love this Q&A and this relationship. So cool.

For games: get Blokus! It doesn’t take that much room. You’ve got 21 pieces each in one color (like Tetris pieces) and try to place them on the board while blocking the other player or players. There is a two person version or a four person version (that two people can also play if you take two colors each). So fun, easy to get started, and it’s different every time. The person with the least amount of pieces left wins.

Love that slicer! Love your relationship. So grownup and healthy.
Re the dishes thing Linnea...not trying to change you or anything but sometimes all ot takes is a reframe to make a hated chore more palatable. In your case 1 a bigger sink might become a bigger dirty dish holder but be the grownup and use it as a more convenient vessel to get dishes in and out and wash them without bring cramped for space. 2 cant emphasize enough to focus on the warm soapy water....feels nice! And nice smelling soap. 3 music or podcast or conversation to distract. 4 run a bit of dishwater when you start cooking and wash as you go before the stuff sticks etc.
    😚😘

From the beginning of my relationship and then marriage my husband and I a rule that whoever cooks doesn't do the dishes and it worked great. Granted his cooking skills included making scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon and toast. He could heat up things in a can or microwave something. I on the other hand love to cook usually from scratch using fresh foods or sometimes frozen. I love experimenting with different foods, herbs and spices to create the different layers and complexity of flavors while using different methods to cook it. One of my biggest achievements is that I have gotten him to eat vegetables and try new things. I also hide vegetables in sauces and various different types of meals I've made over the last 34 years.

Amen to your thoughts on retirement. My dad was healthy, but kil led at 62, about 4 months after he retired as a really well loved physician. He helped his community and kids and his church and he didn’t get what he deserved. All that said, he made time to vacation, hunt, hike, fish, camp and spend time with his family and whoever else wanted to join. Still bitter he didn’t get the twilight years, but he spend so much time doing what he wanted and a lot of people don’t do that. I say this guiltily because Netflix isn’t a hobby and for a lot of people we are just trying to get by. To get to tomorrow and the next day. Kudos to you and your infinite wisdom of just going and doing. I feel like whatever life hands you, retirement wise or other, you will absolutely land on your feet.

it is great that you keep your own space. even as married 35 years ....... very important to have your own space. Love your videos. As a couple ......it amazes me when spouses/significant others don't allow or have to ask permission to do things. TRUST and RESPECT is necessary. My husband hunts and has guy time. I travel, shop and have girl weekends ......while raising 4 kids. Wolf-man ......too funny!! from Wisconsin

I am 60 years old and have lived the work until you retire mode, until I became disabled. The last 10 years have been working on my health. I am preparing to embark on the nomadic lifestyle. I have no retirement because it all got ate up with my health issues. I have very little travel experiences and most my life was simply survival and trying to pay the bills. I think you both have a great philosophy of living for today and trusting that the Universe will provide for later. I intend to do the rest of my life that way. My biggest goal is to have a piece of property to call home when I no longer can drive myself....in 30 years or so. HOpe to see you on the road. I'm heading out Feb. 4 starting in my SUV.

Chris, you are so right about not doing something different. I became disabled at 50. This can't be it for me. I raised my kids and worked all my life. Live you lives. I wish I would have showed a different perspective to my kids. Lived a different way with them. They do the grind for the rent.

I think you have the best of both worlds. I think it’s nice to be able to have some space in a relationship, to create some anticipation and appreciation, when you see each for date night 🤗 even if you do live next door to each other. Also, both of you keep your independence and identity, which is really important for a healthy relationship. I’m 65 now, and even if I fell madly in love head over heels, starstruck, found a gentleman that took my breath away. I would still keep my home for all the above reasons. As my dad would say, life is not a dummy run, so you guys have fun.

You two look perfect together and its so nice seeing so much happiness.
You all are exactly right too, you have to have trust in each other to have a good and solid relationship. I was fortunate to have married a man that trusts me 100% and I trust him. You are right where you say you can’t put someone in a cage - it just won’t work. We have been together for almost 25 years. On a side note, I told him if he didn’t like dogs, we couldn’t be together because I have had dogs (German Shepherds and Labs) my entire life. We have 5 GSD’s now🙄🤣You all are living your best life and doing it right❤️
Also, I love my Apple dohicky thingy🤣 I use it for potatoes too - deep frier and then do melted cheese on top (haha, I’m in the south and everything is fried🤦‍♀️🤣) Will you all be making your own breads too, while living off grid?

I just wanted to inject my own perspective on the dynamics you two have in your relationship...
First off, I confess that I took some time checking you out once I realized you and Chris were an item. 🤣 I was like, 'who turned his head and is she a good fit?' 🤣 I don't even personally know Chris, but have been watching him, Wess, and everyone encompassing his life for the past 5 years and my protective instincts kicked in, I couldn't help it. 😜
So, after subbing to your channel and binge watching your videos, I can totally see why he fell for you. You are an amazing person, inside and out!
With that being said, the dynamics you two have is awesome! You both came together knowing and loving yourselves, both of you were actively pursuing your dreams which are very similar if not identical. This led to being able to come together respecting and honoring each other, understanding that you have two different lives (four, including your fur babies). That is huge! You are sharing life together, rather than becoming consumed with one or the other's life. There's a lot if emotional maturity and stability in that. I could go on and on about it, really...
Too often, one person in a relationship will conform to the other and the balance between them is lost. I don't think many people understand that as individuals, you should always be individuals when it comes to living out your dreams and purpose. If two people can do that, in honoring and respecting their partner, it's the healthiest relationship you can have. It will be successful. You both can bring something to the table.
I am so happy for both of you!! Now Wess needs to find his person. I volunteer myself, but I need a few more years to get stuff together. If he's still single in a few years, I plan to introduce myself. 🤣🤭 I have had a crush on him for years! It makes me mad that he's been with some very shady women whom have hurt him. 😑
Anyway, I love you guys, you are my favorite YT couple. Here's to many years together! 🥂

Chris you nailed that space/trust/ can't keep someone in a box spot on! My husband and I have been living that way.... for 20 years now! Works perfectly and NO one understands it i get a lot of it's cool how he "lets you.." ...sister he dont "let me" LOL!! But we don't give a hoot! Girls trips, guys trips, solo trips, bear hunting trips, together trips! Live that life and Love your partner where they are at in their journey! 100% You too are amazing, smooch those pups for me
And I agree 1000% of not being together if your pets don't click..I have 4 dogs.... and if my husband didn't support my crazy love for my pups... Idk how it would work...They are my pack of crazy!!! Im sooo looking forward to your winter adventureS!

I feel like my partner is very independent and in turn I've become more independent. I think it's great! You support one another together and when you're apart and there's way less jealousy and resentment. You have more freedom and even more trust while you can be your own person and make your own decisions.
I like that you've shared your life with each other on your channel. You both make a great team.

I just want to say thank you for giving me a different look on life! I’ve always loved nature being outside/ exploring. Traveling the way that you do has been a dream of mine but I’ve always been handle back by traditional ways of living and expectations. I truly appreciate your honest opinions and the process of how you go through life with ups and downs. I’m extremely exited to start doing camping adventures with my 7 month old border collie River:) He loves hiking/swimming and rock climbing. I know you two have already had your north woods adventures but my favorite board games are clue, monopoly, uno, and just any simple card game. I wish you both the best in your journey and thank you for being such an inspiration to many. XOXO court & river

The card game SKIPBO, is my favorite! Play it until ALL the cards are gone instead of the way the rules say, for a slightly more exciting game. OR learn to play the card game, Hearts. Though with 2 players it's a little too easy. 😊

As a train hopper, that is definitely the relationship attitude. There is so much to see but two people may not want to see the same thing at the same time. With a phone call or instant message you quickly communicate and soon you are together again telling each other about the adventure you had.

Omg, I love watching you, lol. My daughter turned me onto you some time back and it was when you were installing your lights. I cried when they turned on cause I kept saying, “check them before you get all your boards up!”, lol. My daughter asked why I cried and I laughed and told her cause electrical can be tricky and I was so happy for you that it all worked out. I could gush on so much of what I see and how proud of you I am of what type of womban you are, but for now, lol, I am going to say, “let the man pay for the food when out and about. I am a simple cook like him. I do the dishes at other people’s homes cause I love eating deli shes food but I don’t cook that way-my daughter will more than likely be the cook, hahahaaa. She prefers that over washing dishes. I must say though, that for my sister and her family, when I can afford to buy a meal that is my way of gratitude for all the meals she cooks for me (well her family) when I’m around. It’s so yummy and filled with such love. I love when we camp together cause the food is epic. You cook this way! I can see it from afar and my mouth waters! My money can never equal the love in the home cooked meals nor can my dish washing! But I do what I can to try and keep up my end. Peace to you. Keep on keeping’ on.

That was awesome! Such a cool and natural way to meet. Glad the dogs bonded cause that'd be a deal breaker for me too. Dividing chores where one cooks and the other cleans is fairest way in my opinion. As for dinner out, I've told the server as soon as we're seated that I'm getting the check when I want to treat. Chris, I'm a solo female truck driver and you described my drive. Looking Way ahead, brake checking, to mention a few. Drivers not thinking about anyone other than themselves. There's nothing wrong with maintaining privacy about your relationship on a public forum. Rumikub is a fun game that doesn't last too long. Phase 10 and UNO are fun card games. We're loving Golf (message if you're interested in how to play). It's played in 9 rounds using 2 decks of cards, paper and pen for score keeping. Card games take up very little space as does dice games, like 10,000, using 6 dice and that pad of paper. Stephi Lee talked about We're not really strangers, or something close to that, which is more of a get to know you better through questions and it was really interesting. You guys are gonna rock this winter! Thanks for sharing! Be safe!
