I can't believe it takes so much effort and many steps just to replace a few spark plugs. The engineers who designed this engine should be jailed for gross incompetence.
Let me sing you the song of my people. I tried for a week to change the dead alternator on my fiance's Kia Sorento. It's on top of the ac compressor, under the exhaust manifold, on a transverse mounted engine
Remembering my 1998 Ford Zx2 and how the spark plugs were literally in the front and took NOTHING to get to. Or the first car I drove....and not legally.y mom's 1981 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham 4dr. Like slicing cake with a samurai sword. Stupid easy.
I think that's the point, unfortunately. I can't even do an oil change myself on my car. Or check the transmission fluid. Worst car I've ever had to work on.
@@reverendnaught250 these horizontal oil filters are a PITA. you can't help but spill oil trying to remove it. I honestly think engineers have never done their own oil change.
As much as I love my versa, damn it’s easier to build the Lego Death Star than this, I’m just a beginner there’s no way I’m taking this apart and putting it back together again. I pray she doesn’t get any engine issues..
And you'd need a torque wrench to change spark plugs. This is why regular people can't do simple vehicle maintenance. Can't you just use common sense as the torque wrench and not overtighten, or is it really that exact??
Important note: a special spark plug socket is needed to reach inside the housing. I believe it is something like a 14mm or 9/16" deep thin wall deep socket. I got stuck at this part. That is not a standard spark plug socket included in most socket wrench kits.
Its frustrating to me that the video doesn't tell us exactly what socket sizes and specific tools to use. I have to toggle between two videos which is a pain....
Just got this car (2009) as my first car ever, used and needing a tuneup, and boy when i tell you doing this process made me just wanna buy a different car. 😔
I buy a Haynes manual for every vehicle I own. I didn't realize that yall had a UA-cam channel. Since I'm working on someone else's car, I'll watch the video and not buy a manual. Great video though 👍 !!! Removing the intake manifold just to get to the plugs !🤯 that's just ridiculous
Replace the Manifold gaskets (cheap) while the intake is removed. He should mention that, because some mechanics will ask if you want the new gaskets, which gives the engine more power (what it had new).
This looks like a pretty simple job, going to replace the ignition coils and might as well change spark plugs since I'm there. Sheesh and my girl still doesn't want to pay me. Lmao 😅😂😊
I wanted to do this job on my versa but when it came to take the manifold off . I realized it has silicone as a gasket so it’s pretty much glued on. What’s a good way to get this off with out breaking the manifold
Did this 4 times now, keeps burning up coils, first number 4 went out, fixed that then number 3 went, fixed that now another coul burned up. All ground wires are good and can't find any other wiring issues. Im stumped on whats frying my coils
Very good video, but if you torque the spark plugs at 168 torque pound, you're going to be in serious trouble...it should be torque at 14 torque pound...
I never had the spark plugs changed. I bought the car Certified Pre Owned at 39K mi.and it was done before I bought it. I DID pay Colonial Nissan to change the CVT fluid at 60K mi. and that was $239.00. It sounds like a lot but it's a small price to pay to keep the transmission in shape. Nissan CVT gets a bad rap unless you take care of it. My car is faultless.
This is not an instructional video for a 2014 Versa, regardless of what the title says. There is no engine cover. The air filter is not located in the position of this video either. Even the battery terminal is different. The manifold bracket is different. 1 of the 4 ignition coils is located in a different location.
Anyone looking to replace a bolt of the five that clamp the intake to the head: 8mm diameter, 1.25mm pitch, 35mm long. Large head (or use a strong washer). McMaster is a great web site for ordering stuff like this.

You really should clarify (perhaps in the closed captioning) to tighten the throttle body bolts to "eight to nine inch-pounds" not "89 inch-pounds" which sounds extremely specific and important to follow.
Other than that, thank you for the very helpful video! I do wish I'd watched it before scheduling just 30 minutes to change my plugs 😬 I don't know if the plugs were the main problem but when I broke the EVAP canister purge valve in the process and had to replace it, it fixed the stuttering engine.
So, I changed my spark plugs following every step from this video and now the car won’t start. I got the exact size plugs for it and all just don’t know why it wouldn’t start, anyone have any ideas?
@@jamesdagmond how do you get to that screw? The other 5 came off easy with a straight ratchet but I have small arms and I can barely get back there let alone with a tool.

Thank you for this video! I was able to change the plugs myself. For those wondering, you'll need 8mm, 10mm, and 12mm sockets
What size is the one socket for the spark plugs?
Mostly likely 5/8 but I good set of spark plug sockets will have it.
10mm sockets are a myth
I feel like i just learned how to build a whole engine. Thanks for the tutorial, nonetheless!
Thank you for the video. I understand now, "take my car to the mechanic" cause yep.
Thanks, Nissan...gotta make it complicated enough where most people will just decide to take it in to their service department.

Awesome Video. This video clear my GF's 2 cylinder misfire and got me some very special attention!!!! Thanks!!!!

It should be 168 in-lbs, which is the same as 14 ft-lbs. It's an important distinction though so good to point it out lol
I'll pay Colonial Nissan to do the work; nevertheless, this was an informative video. Many thanks.

You can actually check 1 spark plug and coil without taking the intake off! The one totally to the right.

Yes that hose behind the battery is supposed to just be dangling there. Dw about it.
Sheesh! Thanks Nissan engineers.
Hmmmm.. why not take the intake manifold off at the Top ? And leave the air intake on ... Seems easiest to me , then replace the gasket
No mention of spark plug size and whether or not it must be thin wall
14mm deep (a bit deeper than most deep 14mm) and thin wall isn't needed
