I would try to splice, dove tail something. Work from underneath and above, not take the motor out.The new flexible epoxies they have now are amazing

good grief - do not encourage people to use "whatever is laying around" for restoration. a big NO to sheet rock screws and green treated pine lumber and many other "lying around" items
