I wanted to compare the difference in the Atlas Nyx and the Atlas Ares. I discuss a few differences and weight them. Give you my thoughts on what I like about each of them.
Nyx because of the weight. Atlas said it themselves, not many people notice the extra weight when carry, but it makes a huge difference when shooting 😂
I too Highly Recommend Pure Custom Holsters, I have one for my Atlas Athena and it is the perfect Carry Holster. So nice I purchased one for my Wilson Combat EDC X9 and I wouldn't buy any other Carry Holster Ever.
Beautiful guns. Staccato C2 and comparable Wilson are probably my price limit but no doubt these are awesome guns. Still looking to get the SFX9. Just trying to decide optic problems no optic.
I still love my C2 and the Experior. My SFX9 3.25 has been my daily carry up until I got the Atlas but still carry the SFX9 on occasion since it’s so light and easy to conceal. I put an RMRcc on mine and it’s the way to go IMO.
@@JayMacklin Yes the experior is really nice as well. I just wish the SFX had a cover plate like Staccato to where if you didn’t want to put the optic you have the plate.
@@JayMacklinso glad to hear you say this. I have a sfx9 w/3.25 on order for my summer carry. It’s due to arrive in January. Great vid, now I want an atlas 😂
Thanks for your review. You own some awesome pistols! I just recently bought an Atlas Athena V2. It's a beautiful pistol and shoots butter smoothly. Very interesting about the Pure Kustom holster. New to me and pretty cool. Now to the Google machine I go.....🤣😉
Glad to see your atlas’s man!!! I just passed modern warriors not too long ago, chatted with a few people at shootah 2022 on them. They seem to get a lot of 2011 and 1911 hardware. Can’t wait to see more of your videos
Hi Jay, great videos! I was wondering if you have also shot the Atlas Athena and if so, how does it compare to the Ares 4.25 as an all around defense and range pistol? I was looking at both but can only afford one. Thank you!
I have not had the opportunity to shoot the Athena but do have the Artemis. The Nyx serves both very well, I just like the weight of the Ares for carry.
@@JayMacklin Hello Jay, one more question. I had read that the heat from the front ports on the Ares can/do melt the front fiber optic insert. Have you had this issue? Thanks again.
Awesome review on two unique and superior quality target handgun's. They can go 100,000 to 200,000 rounds. Barrels lasting 50K to 100K rounds from what I have read. The Infinity Strayer-Voigt have been fired 10K rounds to 20K rounds no breakages. And barely any wear on internal parts. 38,000 rounds Ejector broke. 5K rounds recoil spring replaced I believe. Peace
@@TranT0m love the NYX. but it’s not my carry gun. The NYX is my range gun and alternative carry gun if the Ares is down or needs a break. I’m heading to a training/competition in May and I’m bringing both the Aries and the NYX
My Staccato C2 is 41.16 oz. That's with 16+1(124 Gr JHP) a Holosun 507c and a TlR-7a. How would you compare the Atlas to the Staccato? Thanks for sharing. EDC for me.
Great question. The C2 is a great 2011 for the money. Probably the best value 2011 on the market IMO. The Atlas is definitely hand built with more refinements and tighter tolerances but not to where there could be reliability issues. Everything on the atlas is custom to that gun with no MIM or assembly line parts. Aluminum, steel and materials are higher grade along with the internals and trigger parts. That being said, it still does what the C2 does it’s just done in a different, more craftsmanship way.
The Ares is a commander size at 4.25 but very close to the x9 or experior 4”. The Ares outshoots the SFX and EDCX9. The Ares is my fastest gun by far. The EDCX9 or Experior are amazing pistols and are 100% worth the money. The Atlas is a splurge and a want NOT a need.
@@JayMacklin Thanks for the reply, greatly appreciated. Think I’m going to keep the 3.25” SFX9 for summer and go with the Ares for winter carry. Thanks again.
Thanks for the video! Not trying to be inflammatory or stir the pot but, knowing what you know, and money was not a concern, would you go C2, Nyx, or Ares for concealed carry? Already know I'm getting an Athena but would rather buy once cry once than resell and all that jazz.
@@JayMacklin cool if I contact you on IG? I have a cheely on mine right now and it prints like all get out 😕. I've got cash on hand if you're willing to sell
Which shoots flatter with less recoil, Nyx or Ares?
Nyx because of the weight. Atlas said it themselves, not many people notice the extra weight when carry, but it makes a huge difference when shooting 😂

Great Atlas review Jay!!! The Ares is loose because of the RMR. Your holster was made for an SRO, taller optics.

Atlas makes some very nice 2011's. Hopefully I can get a Athena V2. Good video and thanks.

Is that Holster available in light bearing?
Will the ares 4.25” fit a NYX holster and vice versa?
Yes. Both my LAS concealment AIWB and my Pure Kustom leather holsters fit perfectly.
@@JayMacklin thanks. and you still like the nyx after owning the ares? Can’t decide between NYX and Athena

And is the NYX that much heavier than the ares?
You can immediately tell it does have a longer reset then an ♾ infinity
Does the ares flush fit mag work on the nyx?
No, it’s too short. The magwell on the Nyx blocks it

Ares hands down. If the Nyx was the same weight as the ares then the Nyx hands down. The C2 is a great gun but it doesn’t compare to the Atlas lineup.

@@JayMacklin Hi, Why the Nyx if the wieght was the same? Does it shoot flatter than the Ares even without porting due to the steel frame?

How does the grip (width, circumference, ect.) of the Atlas Ares feel compared to the Staccato C2?
The grip is actually smaller in circumference but a bit longer Thant the C2 grip. It’s also slightly slimmer on the width.
@@JayMacklin Thanks for the reply. Too bad there isn't an Atlas store on the corner by my house so I could feel one. 😂 I am intrigued though.
How do these shoot recoil wise compared to the C2?
Way softer. They’re also quite a bit heavier too
Ares doesn't look like 6k+ gun to me
Well it sure shoots like one.
Yes for that price I would want it to look more aggressive. It was too simple. It may shoot well but I don’t think for 6k
