Who do you think is Bolt's greatest rival? My money's on Gatlin

Going to break down 4 sprinters that could be his greatest rivalry
Powell: Powell was an amazing sprinter with nearly perfect form and technique. When he was relaxed, he was basically almost unbeatable before 2008. But if I were to be honest, Powell VS Bolt could've been an excellent rivalry, but Bolt beat Powell nearly every time. Powell was not mentally there. But he is still sort of a rival because even Bolt himself said that Powell had potential to break records and beat him so the awareness of his potential was there, but it was not proven.
Yohan Blake: Yohan was definitely a rival in 2011/2012. He was more of a rival of keeping Bolt at his best than threatening his records. Personally, prime Bolt beats prime Blake any day. But prime Blake was a very tough cookie because he was a great wake up call and basically like made Bolt keep his unbeatable form. Bolt didn't need to run a world record to beat Blake, so Blake to Bolt in my opinion, is kind of similar to Knighton to Lyles. Wake up calls were needed for Bolt and Lyles.
Justin Gatlin: Gatlin is arguably his best rival. Not because he was threatening records, but because he was very consistent in 2014/2015, and when Bolt was unmotivated and felt like not training much, Gatlin gave a wake up call and challenged an injured and unmotivated Bolt to come back to 80% of his best again. He kept fighting and was coming closer to beating Bolt til 2017. Gatlin was a rival to Bolt was great mainly because he was very consistent and basically told Bolt to not decline with that form which tested his mentality and drive
Tyson Gay: Tyson was a tough rival. In 2006 and 2007, Gay was kicking ass and he obviously beat Bolt in Osaka. That defeat was very important for Bolt and that partially made him the man he is today. He came in confident to win that 200m title, only to lose to Tyson Gay and he got furious and made sure that never happened again. Tyson was very difficult, and a world record would be required to beat him in 2008 and 2009. Tyson Gay was the provoker for Bolt. He always pushed Bolt and fun fact: Tyson has more wins in the 100m and 200m against Bolt mainly because of those 200ms in 2005-2007. So basically, if Bolt isn't in top form, he may be screwed.
In summary: Blake and Gatlin tested Bolt's greatness and drive, but Tyson Gay was that one person who always pushed you to go above and beyond and Powell had potential to be his greatest rival, but it didn't work out.

All of these guys were insane to watch in their prime. It’s a shame Gatlin and Gay aren’t competing and Blake is towards the tail end of his career

I want to point out that bolt has false started on multiple occasions in global championships prior to 2010 when the 1 and done rule wasn't a thing yet
Regardless, I think Gay and Powell pushed Bolt to break records and run fast, while Blake and Gatlin threatened Bolt to maintain his previous form and give everything to win championships

I didn’t know that! What was one of the championships you mention Bolt false started at? I couldn’t find any others during my research.
Powell was a great athlete, he just always had trouble performing in the global championships unfortunately

@@patwalshartemis I'm pretty sure it was the 200 semis in berlin, not sure if there's any more but I vaguely remember a false start in the 100 somewhere

I don't know whether Usain Bolt just was the greatest sprint talent of all times or if he was just cheating in the most unobstrusive and intelligent way. Jamaica has been notorious for it's close to non- existant unannounced doping controls. Plus, 100m has been amongst the uncleanest disciplines in track and field. Most world class sprinters cheated. Without doping, 10s are still the natural limit in 100m.
