I am a 17 yr old pitcher and it took me 3 years to finally get the knuckleball to pitch in games and when a batter in high school sees my knuckle they don't know what to do and freeze up.. I think it is funny but it took a lot if work to finally get this pitch under control... I throw sidearm and have a slider, knuckle curve, and curveball as well.. Took lots of practice but hard work pays off.
That is great you can throw a knuckleball but please be careful about throwing those curveballs and sliders. You have a young arm and your muscles are not fully developed. You can experience some possible arm problems. Take it from an old fart like me who messed up his arm doing that.
Checkm8king2 You actually want more over the top force. I was a knuckleballer in high school as well. I started off sidearm, but my senior year I finally started throwing it over the top, and the movement was wicked. I always found my best success when the wind was blowing hard in my face. The ball would just freak out. I literally started throwing this pitch when I was ten, and began using it in games by age twelve. I hurt my shoulder at age 14, and was a full time knuckleballer for the rest of my playing days.
I did not. I joined the military straight out of high school. I studied the knuckleball immensely though, and as I said, after hurting my shoulder, it was pretty much all I threw because my "fastball" was only 65 mph. My knuckler was an average of 57-62, so you can see velocity was a huge problem after my injury.
And that wasn't even off the mound at 100%. His knuckler was absolutely sick. Watching batters give the WTF face is priceless. How's RA doing this year for the Blue Jays?
That ball just freaks out in mid air, nasty pitches. I can't imagine how it must be to be at the plate and have one of those thrown at me at 80 mph like he throws them.
Doesnt matter what arm angle you have for a knuckleball I can throw it overhand side arm and submarine it all depends on whats comfortable for the pitcher
:45 the nastiest one he threw. looks like its at your head, then it looks like it froze in mid air, then it looks like it's going left then it goes right and drops like a bullet into the strike zone.
it looks hittable due to the way the camera is angled and where the camera man is standing from. From the catchers perspective where you look dead strait and where the balls comes out from dickeys hands that ball has a lot more movement than it does. Plus its spring training he probably just getting loose.
Dickey did win a Cy Young. i see why now. that knuckleball is hilarious - imagine top notch MLB players trying to hit it, while Dickey is in the zone. just try...
the funny thing is that he doesnt even have a UCL ligament in his throwing arm..Tommy John surgery usually fixes the UCL. Doctors are baffled he can actually throw at all
wow, you really cant see the movement with the camera oangles on games but this view really gives you a good look on how dirty it is and it may look like a lob to the viewers eye and you shake your head wondering why hitters have trouble with it, perfect example here/
maybe that's how he got into throwing knuckle balls. his motion is a lot more over hand than other pitchers and hist wrist is high. not as much pivoting of the wrist
Geeez that side to side fluttering makes me have an appreciation for the art of throwing that pitch
Sounds like popcorn.
Thanks for posting this. Good quality to see the movement on that pitch. Absolutely insane. Very excited for this season.
Dickey is the man!
This is making me wanting to find someone to catch for me and record my knuckle ball. I haven’t threw one in 10+ years though lol.
0:45 wicked movement
Yep
3rd pitch was a meatball though.
a thing of beauty.....GO JAYS GO!!
Amazing!! You don't know what his knuckleball will do! Ga lee
wow! did you see that ball is dancing in the air?

A side arm knuckle ball would really be something!

Tim White Did you play pro ball?

Wiggle's a lot before this I thought the knuckle ball was a myth.
Woah, the ball is like goes fast then stop then curves a little and go for it. Pretty insane.

J.P couldn't catch it for the life of him last night. Its absolutely unreal, it just dances.
Sick.
My eyes are now permanently crossed.
that's insane
It sounds like a shooting range down there

Wow what movement on those pitches icredible seeing it from behind, now i know why some catchers have a bigger mitt for knucklebalkers!!!
Sick pitch. LET'S GO BLUEJAYS LET'S GO! CLAP CLAP CLAP!!
Exactly.
those fast ones are crazy
Dat movement
r.a dickey eres asombroso
Everytime he throws it, it has different movement
Devin cupit the ball doesn’t spin it’s the way the air takes it
Wow
:45 the nastiest one he threw.

that first one is nasty
Sounds like someone's making popcorn lol
1:15 - YIKES!
That was is nasty. I thought the very first one when the video started was dirtier though.

It's kind of a smart person's game ;)
mother of god...
Wow, that is a thing of beauty. I'm waiting for the camera operator to get hit after the catcher misses a pitch!
Note to self: wear a catchers mask if you ever play catch with Dickey

I wanna throw the knuckleball sooo baad!! How awesome would it be if i could perfect it *-*
i was about to say that lol
And this is just from flat ground... that thing must go all over off a mound in a game situation.
Can i use this for one of my videos?
the funny thing is that he doesnt even have a UCL ligament in his throwing arm..Tommy John surgery usually fixes the UCL. Doctors are baffled he can actually throw at all
i know thats when i saw him so i put that time

Im 14 and people tell me i have a good knuckleball but after watching this mine looks like crap lol
just pretend its a high breaking ball, close your eyes and swing the bat.
How do catches even catch this? besides throwing there body out to block it lol
I am so confused why anyone thumb's downed this vid
freaking cleveland... lost 2 games to them T-T not a very good start for the blue jays but we will win tomorrow!
I want to try and hit that... haha.
Nastiest pitch in baseball
0:11? he's been on the left the whole time :L
아니 밖에서 오는 공인데 갑자기 가운데로 오냐
0:45 OMG
people who can't even spell boring tend to have trouble understanding a smart mans game like this
I'm going to vomit, Dickey's Knuckler is sick, and I thought mine was good, turns out it isn't.
baseball is so incredibly broing holy fuck...
fix your facemask catcher! it's annoying me.
I throw a better one than him haha not
That's not a knuckleball.
