    I once got a new power supply that I mismatched with cables for another power supply, believing that all power supply pin-outs were standardized. Boy was I wrong!! Just because it plugs in doesn't mean it's right. I fried four 8 TB and two 2 TB drives!
    I wasn't so mad about the drives because I get them for free, but the meticulously organized and cataloged movies, tv shows, and apps that took me decades to collect... yeah, I was pissed about that.

      Sometimes only the protecting diodes gets fried and shorted, unsoldering them can make the HDDs to work again.

      @@MyPlayHouse I've had a few too many "Ninja f-ups". My server had one x16 PCIe slot and two x8 slots. I tried shaving off the end of the x8s to fit an extra video card. Now I have a single slot and it runs at x2 :(

    NVENC is nvidias hardware encoder on their GPUs. When you use it for rendering it ignores some encoding settings that cannot be changed when using nvenc so the output video could be of lower quality depending on the settings you used for the other renders. For a comparison to the other cards you should've used cuda/generic gpu acceleration to get a fair comparison with an identical output.

    • @MyPlayHouse
      @MyPlayHouse  3 роки тому

      I am not sure I can pick how it renders or how it does it.. :-/

    • @SoJa92
      @SoJa92 3 роки тому +1

      @@MyPlayHouse In the video there are render templates that have a NVENC counterpart at 13:10. If you chose a non-nvenc one it should just utilize the GPU compute like the other cards did. Thank you for the videos regardless though!

    • @TheBitKrieger
      @TheBitKrieger 3 роки тому

      @Kevin Clingerman is right, that's why you saw the "Video Engine Load" so high - that's the nvenc hardware encoder.

    When you said 10k points was nothing, I almost died inside. My server only gets 4 thousand points per day. I guess the lesson here is I need a new GPU for my server. Thanks Morten, watching your videos is going to make me need to empty my wallet.

    Maybe do a Minecraft server test on one of these servers :), Also maybe it wouldnt be a bad idea to modify that mining card (you know, that video from about a week ago) to have a some kind of a air vent in the front and block that hole where the fan was(i mean that part of the card that for example the power connectors are located), so when it doesnt have a fan anymore it would be colled better by the server fans(you know, air passes from the front, through the card, and out at the back. Great video.

    Hi,
    I have dell r730 with Nvidia tesla K80 GPU. I try to do passthrough to window VW through exsi 7.0.
    The vm don't start? How can I fix it?
    This is the error from exsi "Module 'DevicePowerOn' power on failed."
    This after I fixed this issue - "Invalid memory setting: memory reservation (sched.mem.min) should be equal to memsize(131072)."

    I was wondering if your K80 overheats at medium Fan settings(60%). I was able to get it not to overheat only if fans were running 100% on my ML350 Gen9 server under stress test by nvidia DGCM suite. But it is way too loud.

      A while back I went to work on an old server. I plugged it in and it was very loud but still bearable. Then I realized it was still switched off, it was just the standby fan running. I turned it on and almost needed to run to a bomb shelter.

    Im not familiar with servers so a simple question, what advantages are there for having several graphics cards in the server ?

    • @Aggrop0p
      @Aggrop0p 3 роки тому

      Graphics cards can do other things besides graphics. They're extremely good at calculating certain types of mathematical problems, much better than the main processor, and multiple cards can usually work on the same problem at the same time. The nvidia K80 already has 2 graphics processors on it, so it's basically 2 cards in 1.

    I also had to disconnect one of the zero Volt wires and move it.
    But what still bugs me is you have an Asus server with 2019 Server running......with no errors from the OS regarding lack of resources.
