I once got some cheap-ish twin oaks saddle bags for the front and after the first washing machine experience all the water insulation layer inside the bags just fell apart, and after that I used them about 10 times and they literally fell apart, with holes appearing on the bottom from how fragile the canvas was with the insulation layer destroyed. The bags weren't expensive, so I didn't expect much, but they should really mention on the labels what the bags are not suitable for washing machines. Am giving it a go with leather saddle bags now.
I use the Mountain Ridge gear for saddle bags and horn bags ... kind of pricey but real good .. of course I follow what the old timers thought about not carrying too much weight on there kidneys. If i'm going for more then a night I take a pack animal ..
Good suggestions! My saddles are English saddles so I had a hard time finding pommel bags that wouldn't need a horn! But I think if we weren't staying with strangers in our Ireland ride a pack horse would have been required at some point!
We have another video on our channel (our riding across ireland series episode 8 I believe) with the saddle bags on our horses and we demonstrate exact details about the bags we use and where they tore or what we thought about that brand.
I’ve been running the trail Mac system here in Alaska they work fine people tend to overpack remember pounds equal pain even for a Horses

Too much talking not enough to the point information.
