- Spring time in Florida means crystal clear water so you need to cast your lures out even farther to get the bite. Lately I have been throwing a lot of topwater lures like the Berkley J-walker for exactly this reason. This is a lure I can cast a long way and work effectively over long distances and it has been getting the bite from snook, redfish, trout and tarpon. This was a fishing session where I put this lure to work and it really paid off. I think you will catch more fish if you throw more topwater lures this spring.

Chunky redfish. Solid one for southwest Florida
Sure is!
Gotta love reds on top water. Good video. 🤙🏼
You got that right! You can tell what fish it is as soon as you see that big wake behind the lure.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Kayaking fishing, I got my PB redfish 27 incher on the east wall Matlache sound, but i haven't used topwater close to the mangroves. I am still learning... thanks😊
Nice redfish! Do you have a kayak launch site that you would recommend in Matlacha?
@@fishingmilesaway two spots, Matlache Community Park kayaking/boat launch in the town, south side across the bridge, and kayak launch on the south end of Pine Island at the end of road of Tropical point. If you launch a boat, be careful, repair dudes have good business replacing lower units, oyster bars run across the sound, so stay in channel, unless using a trolling motor. Kayaks can also be peel back hitting a oyster bar, Also the current is pushing water between Charolette harbor and Pine island sound, so you need to be mindful of the current while approaching oyster bar.
Thanks, I'll try those!
love the video man! What your opinions on pairing a Shimano stratic 2500 with a Medium light 7ft star rod? Could you give some other rod recommendations for that reel?
I actually have my Stradic 2500 paired with a medium light Fenwick HMG Inshore and it works great. Star makes a good inshore rod and so does St. Croix. I put 8lb braid on that combo to get more casting distance with the small lures i throw with it. I'm considering going up in price on the next rod I buy to see if I get a lot more out of it. I'll let you know.
