Think of your video game backlog as entertainment insurance. If you fall on hard times and are unable to play the latest titles, you've got a library of games to tide you over until your circumstances improve.
I stopped worrying about my back log. I play what I want when I want. I may never fully master a game or finish every single game I touch but enjoy it for what it is. That’s all you can really do in life. I would be nice to experience everything but there are other important things than just gaming.
And thats whats important. I stopped worrying a while ago before making this video and never felt better, no obligation and no sense of pressure to finish a game, which basically inspired me to make this video 😅😁
It’s a scary feeling, knowing that there are some tremendous games that you may never get a chance to experience. But such is life. Just seek joy in the games you ARE playing.
Big facts, enjoy the current moment and whatever you play right now, games are here to stay and they aint going nowhere 😁 I just recently started playing Witcher 3 for the first time and I am having a blast considering the game came out in 2015 😁
Epic thumbnail BOYYYY although in all seriousness I always felt bad for never playing some of the best games was released because of financial problems such as GOW Ragnarok which made me really sad because it was one of the games I played as a kid. So thanks for showing awareness of such problems for us gamers out here 🎉🎉
Always my friend. You just need to take your time and not worry, we have all the time in the world and there will be a time to play whatever you want without feeling pressed to play said game. Gaming is all about relaxation and joy of exploration, so relax and play whatever you want 😁
A video of this great quality by a small creator?! Bless the UA-cam algorithm. I can totally resonate with the completionist section of the video. That is me to a T. I feel like whenever I play a game I want to 100% the game to experience EVERYTHING the game has to offer. The problem with this is it leads me to seeking guides before I play or during my first playthrough. Reason for this is I don't want to do multiple playthroughs for my 100% because my time to play is very limited. But this causes me to lose the enjoyment of discovering something new and having fun with a game instead of viewing it as a list of checkboxes. Overall, great video!
I feel you man, Im completely the same. I still go for platinums from time to time but I also started to play games that I have missed out and wont be getting the 100% cuz its a little tough but the experience was worth it 😁
@@domsdiary_ Yeah, I was a trophy hunter for sure. I eventually switched to PC gaming and achievements don't have the same effect on me as trophies did. So now I tend to 100% games not for the achievements but to get the "full" experience of the game. But it can be daunting with the amount of things game have to do nowadays.
For real, I'm the same, with all the limited time I have, I need to manage my life, my job and squeeze in playing games and editing 😅 Although, I am managing right now, I found the perfect balance 😁
I'm super happy you found a great balance for you! I'm still struggling to balance work, wife, kids, and responsibilities. I haven't played games in over 6 months.
Great video with powerful words. I feel that some of us probably knew most of this already, but hearing someone else put it in nice words definitely helps. Now the problem is really understanding how the issue affects each one of us and trying to do that "mentality shift", which is really all there is to this and other bad habits we have.
Exactly, while we all share the same problem, each and every one of us have to figure out how to deal with said problem in our own way, finding that "mentality shift". And thank you for the kind words, they mean a lot 😁
Since the pandemic I started to plat a lot of games, in 4 years I got around 60 of them and then I felt burned out. Well sure it's still pleasable for me but I took a different approach, doing it only if it makes it worthwile. I was feared to play some games that are gems because of long plat but you made a good point of it, I need to embrace that I don't need everything and I hope it will help me in many cases beside not so much time for this hobby because of the adult life. Thank you and wish you all the best with the channel!
Same here man, in 4 years I am sitting at 80 platinums, I still go for platinums in many games but I also play some in between to even out fun and challange 😁 Everyone has their own kind of taste and we need to find that balance on our own, but I am glad you are starting to find that balance! And thank you for the support, it means a lot 😁
Yes, exactly. This week I came back to a game I already played many times and made me more relaxed than any other game recently. I've expanded my taste but also know what to come back if I want to relax or maybe it's a nostalgia thing. You've got great balance and hope you keep at it as well! ^^
As someone who loves to play lots of time consuming rpgs this video helped me a lot in regards to making better decisions on how to spend my limited time in the future 🙌🏻
Its great to hear that it did! As a completionist myself, I know how its like to dedicate yourself to one game until you finish it, but its also important to have fun too! So play whatever you like for however long you like! 😁
I have a backlog that sometimes gives me trouble, but the way I deal with it is I play a game, if I'm into it I continue, if I'm not into I don't. I typically have 2 or 3 games ongoing at a time to have some variety depending on my mood. If I ever play a game that has the 'magic', I will prioritise that game and enjoy the feelings. Seems to work for me, and instead of getting overwhelmed, I just remove games that I lose interest in.
Thats good to hear! Everyone has their own way of dealing with a backlog and I'm glad you found yours. For me, I typically look at spoiler free reviews if its a game that I dont know of but looks interesting so I can see if I will be playing it or not, but in the case of a known game that I know will play, I just put it to the side until that magic to play it comes back again (or when I feel like it 😅). But I am mostly the same about the backlog like you, if I'm not interested, I will just put it to the side and wait for the moment to play it while I play something I am far more interested in. And thanks for the comment, glad you found the video interesting 😁
Wow. What a thoughtful video full of useful tips. I never really considered thinking of my backlog as something to let go of before. Very well-put together thoughts on this topic. Keep it up!
The burden of the backlog is when you get burned out on one genre. Then decide to branch out. Suddenly there's 100s of games. Then there's the struggle of choosing a modern title in the genre or emulating a classic. My pc download speed is slower than a snail for whatever reason so I don't use my gaming laptop for emulation. Yet playing "the classics" is always itching at the back of my mind. Choosing what genuinely interests me is easy. Very few games genuinely hype me. That's my issue, I WANT to be genuinely into more genres and games than just 2 or 3 titles every few years. Feeling left out by not liking popular games or genres. I dont know if it's a lot of mental blocks or what. It just sucks and I want to enjoy new experiences while i wait for those tried and true franchises that take their time to come out and always get me hyped.
Yeah I feel you, with so many options it starts to feel overwhelming to choose what to play, I find myself in that position sometimes since my backlog is still pretty big 😅
@domsdiary_ For an idea of the games off the top of my head that I'm legitimately excited for (metroid prime 4: 2025, Doom dark ages: 2025, sonic x shadow generations: October, lollipop chainsaw remake: September) then there's stuff that looks fun that I may want to pick up (mario and luigi brothership: later this year, legend of zelda echoes of wisdom: September) My backlog games? Oh boy where to start: ff7 rebirth, returnal (the only things ps exclusive I want to play), system shock remake, get into shmups, arcade racing games that aren't mario kart, freedom planet 2, I want to get back into jrpgs, paper mario 1000 year door remake, super mario rpg remake, luigis mansion, I can just go on and on. It gets a little tough just picking a game, especially now since I'm considering bringing my switch to work to get an hour in every night on lunch breaks.
Same here, my October for this year is looking crazy 😭 Dragon Ball Sparking Zero and Silent Hill 2 Remake. Then for 2025 Doom Dark Ages and some other coom games that got announced, but still have some old games that I have to play man 😭 All the Metro games, Red Dead 1 and 2 and a whole bunch I cant think of right but I know I have 150+ games unplayed 😭
once in a while i pick a game in my backlog (and there are tons of them), restart a save to get back into it (because i'm always like 20 or 30% through it) and i instantly become addicted to it IMy brain be like "yeah let's play that game which has been in my steam library for months" and know 100% of the lore a few weeks later 💀
Literally me restarting Red Dead 2 for 3 times now cuz I always tell myself I will finish it this time but then I pick up something else 😭 (I will finish up Red Dead 2 one day, the story part where I got is amazing 🙏)

Man, Im also thinking of getting a Vita or a PSP and hack one of them, I never had a handheld console ever and to think technology has evolved enough to store so many games on one small console and have it everywhere with you is truly amazing.
