- We're looking back on our 2 years with the Kamado Joe Big Joe 2. The Kamado Joe brand has held up well for us over the last 2.5 years from the Kamado Joe Joetisserie to the Kamado Joe iKamand we've tried a decent amount of Kamado Joe accessories as well as the grill itself. The Kamado Joe Big Joe hasn't let us down on a single cook yet. The only major con to the Kamado Joe is the cost. Other than cost the Kamado Joe has limitless capability to up your BBQ game from pizza to brisket to rotisserie wings it can do it all; low and slow or incredibly hot and fast.

This was one of the most informative video on the Kamado Big Joe ! loved the pros and cons! I wrote to you a few time and spoke to you about the KBJ , you have helped out a lot ! fire management is very enjoyable I feel also. I don't think anyone had really done a video about this Beast of a grill we all love so much !
Thank you again.
Brad.

I have had mine for 4 years, no parts replaced. Also, I average grill cooking minimum 5 days a week all year.
Adjusting the target temps becomes easy after using the grill often. After a couple months using the Joe, I would get the fire going, spread out the wood and set the dampers and be within 5 degrees of my target temp after the grill settled.
Bonjour ! I have a BJ 2 since the end of last November and it's really great. I came from a Weber 5770 and the change is truly amazing. I agree with you on many points that you mention and little by little I will invest in some accessories that seem necessary to me ! The temperature control and its maintenance throughout the cooking is superb ! So many recipes to experiment with !
Just bought a classic 2. Very excited. I didn’t want to pay the difference for the larger one as it’s will fit everything I need. I only buy points when cooking brisket(I avoid flats). Butts and ribs will fit just fine.
I really enjoy watching his Kamado Joe videos. So straight-forward and honest. Keep them coming!!
Good video, I ended up going with the Kamado Joe official charcoal basket because it links up with the divide and conquer system and also only cost $20 or so more than the knock-off. It also seems like the Kamado Joe basket was higher quality as well.
Got the Classic 3 a few days ago when it went on sale at Amazon for $1,047 an am super happy with it. Did a test run on an 18 pound turkey and it did great. Ideally, I'd like a Big Joe and Joe Jr combo, but I couldn't pass up the Classic 3 for just over 1k.
Nice video!
Amazing deal!
I worked for Omaha Steaks and they ended up closing my store... super bummed out but I was able to score the Kamado Joe Jr. As a parting gift at a steal of a price, $250! I know it’s probably an older model but I’m excited to put it through it’s paces. I got my friends dad the classic Joe for $400! Super sad my time with the company has ended but at least I got an awesome grill out of it
Really good review, spot on with my experience. I've owned the 1 then upgraded to 2. As you noted, I think one of the most important considerations is what you will primarily be cooking in relation to grill size. Brisket and ribs are my two favorites and the 1 can do it but it is stuffed. Also a whole turkey vertically is pretty big in the Joe 1. There is a bit more labor in dealing with charcoal but maintenance and cleanup otherwise pretty easy.
I have the original Big Joe for over 6 years. Your analyst is spot on!!
Great review. I have the KJ Classic with the Auber SYL-3615 temperature control. I love both. I just couldn't swing the Big Joe at $800 more. (I got an amazing deal on my KJ Classic for $900 delivered) I just put a chunk of wood, covered in foil under the full packer brisket for the first 4 hours until it shrinks a bit. Then it fits fine. Another great accessory is the extra grate that puts a higher 2nd cooking level. It almost doubles the grate capacity and allows me to put a tray of BBQ beans under the brisket to smoke. Ceramic is the only way to go if you live in a northern climate because it allows you to smoke year round with stable temperatures.
One of the best reviews I’ve seen.
Thanks, John!
Great video!! One of the greatest addition to my Kamado was the soapstone cooking surface. You should buy one , you will love it!!
From all my research it seems I should've gone soap stone over cast iron haha it's on the list for sure! What are the main foods you use yours for?
@@BreakItYourself I also have the cast iron griddle, they fit perfecly side by side!! Lol Been using the soapstone for vegetables , searing steak...they all turn out great. The thing I like is that its easy maintenance comparing to cast iron.
I got very Fortunate and got what I believe is a Komodo Joe given to me when my niece had to down size because of moving. I’m not sure how old it is or if the extras you have talked about here will even fit. I love it but am still learning about the grill/smoker. It sounds like there are a lot more things I can do with it than I had any idea.
The Do-Joe is my favorite accessory... makes an awesome Pizza oven.... great review.
Great video,Had mine Big Joe 3 years no complaints,,Dude need a video on your Giro recipe please,,Looked Awesome
Great review. thank you
Great 2 year review. I wish I'd gone with the Kamado Joe when I bought my kamari almost 2 and half years ago. There's no way I can fit a whole packer brisket on mine, much less a rack of ribs without using a rib rack.
Excellent video, very informative 👍🏻
Great! Very good explanation.
Any issues leaving it out uncovered in the Louisiana Raina and humidity? Have to imagine heavy rain causes some issue.
“Thumbs me up” 😂 great video liked and enjoyed it
Great review. In hindsight would you have purchased the cover too, considering the substantial outlay?
The food taste so much better than a pellet grill. I do have both though and use the Kamado joe classic 3 4-6 times a week and the traeger maybe once a week. I use my black stone more than my pellet grill. But anyone looking I love my classic but like he said the cost the series 3 was a 1000 dollars more
How does the bbq compare of the KJ vs your Workhorse?
Use the fire starter torch to loosen your control tower. After a slow cook the tower is really sticky. Shoot the flame up the inside the tower. It will loosen the tar.
Good video, covered a lot of full of good info. Once thing you can use to clean your basket and grills is PBW. Stuff works amazing, just soak everything for 12-24 hours and then just rinse off. Costco Road show is also a great place to stock up on Lump.
Great 2-Year Review, it's a Joe for me -- thanks!
Do you recommend the Big Joe 2/3? I'm in the market for and getting people pro's and con's.
Got my KJ Big Joe II thru AGC for $1499.00. Delivered!!!
Dang what a deal! was this black friday?
@@BreakItYourself No, that's their "preferred dealer" or something like that discount. I think they discount all of the KJ cookers, but you have to add them to your cart, then go to checkout to see the actual price. The Big Joe III is $2,499 on their page, but once you get to checkout, it's discounted to $1,999. That's their every-day pricing.
Can you, please, provide the link or full name AGC, where you bought.

What kind of fire starter was that you used, and do you like it? I've been using the blocks which work well but at 10.99 a for a box of 24 I'm looking to get something different. Also didn't see the link to the fire board.

I'm using a harbor freight heat gun to start my charcoal or I cut the KJ fire starters into 4 and use those. ua-cam.com/video/lI2RqhWFcMM/v-deo.html
100% cut the fire starters either in half or in four. you dont need that much flame to get the fire started for low and slow so you can get away with one quarter or half piece in the middle of the grill. if you want a hotter cook just cut them in four and spread them around the firebox. experiment and figure out what works for you. also if you wanna be extra cheap soak some balled up paper towel in some cooking oil (i usually use two pieces of paper towel per ball) and use that as it also works great plus it is a good hack if you run out of starters or dont have some other ignition source.
Or dip a paper towel in a little veggie oil. Super cheap.
I use Tumbleweeds. Work great. Easy to light. And not expensive.
You can buy the slow roller for the big joe 2
great vid man lots of good tips...
Yo it’s not just the slow roller it’s the cart and the 3 tiers cooking system and the basket and just a deeper pit also slow roller is available for the others
Thanks for informing my purchasing decision!
Man the control tower is the first thing to go. Mine is totalled after 6 months of almost everyday use.
Do you clean it regularly? I don't at all and have to fight with it a bit.
@@BreakItYourself yeah it just jams up. I can't go full throttle any more.
Hey what’s the diameter of your grill?
Great lipstick on the pig.... thanks! Incredible.....
When I deep cleaned my control tower the finish came off. I was gonna get the smoke ware if you’ve heard good things about it maybe
Same thing happened to mine, but it doesn't seem to affect the way it works.
I don't know why you wouldn't cover it?
Because I’m dumb
Thank you, great vid. I think I'll go for the Big as well.. it just works easier right? Can you fill up half with coals or allways full.. f.i. with ribs?
Can I leave the Kamado outside, here in a colder ,rainy country?
Well you posted 2 yrs. ago but for others . . .Be careful . . . Made in Zixing, China . . .
YT and watch - kamado joe factory
Do your research . . . About High Temp Cleaning too.
I am in PA. and concerned if I should even attempt a purchase.
This is Covid 2.0 pricing and China is in a hurry . . . next year will be 3.0
$2-3K+ for a KBJ grill is insane. KJ Accessory $$$ for things that should be included are too.
I haven't bought yet and probably will not.
🙏🙏🙏🙏
Try putting the wood under your lump.
I've had mine for about 6 years and nothing has broke on mine
nice and honest review. :P
Gyro= G is silent like Year-Oh love this review but the Chicago in me had to correct lol.
You are probably one of those people who get bothered when someone pronounces the L in salmon too. Lol
When I get home from the navy, I fire up my smoker, add an AMERICAN full packer brisket, crack a beer, turn on Fox News and listen to a Trump speech 🇺🇸
not sure what you get out of his speech , the poor man cant even speak eloquently he just repeats and repeats and often gets lost. he cant even read and stick to his own speech without improvising..
Have to say - yes the start up is a bit more labour intensive than some other grills- but once you reach a stable temp ( 25 minutes or so) it will happily sit there all day. Anyway half the point of owning a BBQ is playing with it....It`s a boy thing......
Looks like Lakeview.
My wife will take that as a compliment but I would never voluntarily subject myself to Orleans Parish 😂
I have a Smokey Joe for lots less... I am to cheap / broke to spend 1500 bucks on a grill.... great video though!
You can't take money to the grave. Enough said.
Did he just say "geero"??
only $1800? 😂 where i live big joe III is $3k+
I replaced my cap.
Get a joe Jr. perhaps.
You now say the Kamado is not a set it and forget it grill, after saying the Off set you bought because of the Mad Scientist is not a set it and forget it, but the Kamado is a set it and forget it. Hmmmm. Hopefully no one coersed you into buying this Komodo grill also.
My dog is a Republican!
So you all think this guy is great but cannot cover his 1k grill. No matter what he says does he even clean this at all? Control tower gumming up, wonder why? Again its gotta be cleaned before you eat from it.
My son bought me a Big Joe 3, and I'll tell you what son, There ain't nothing better than my good old Weber, My backyard is full of all types of smokers and my favourite smoker has to be my drum smoker which I built myself. I have an expensive pellet smoker and it ain't even built in the USA, If my grill ain't 100% American, then I ain't using it.
Nice son to have... :P You can never compare a Kamado with a Weber. Kamado is and always make and smoke better. BUT!!!! i am with you 100% american is the only way to go!!! but who doesnt love a nice fried rice with a Wok on your kamado
