    I am a Twin Cessna fan and owned a beautiful 1956 310. I have always loved them all, especially the 421. The comment Rich made about being privileged to live in a time when we can fly these airplanes is so true and heartbreaking. They will never build anything like a 340 or a 421 again. Gone are the days of the 320 Skynight. I am an IA and could barely afford to maintain my 310. Not to mention finding parts. The "out of production" component of cost is reflected on the ramp. There are hundreds of twins sitting on flat tires at airports across the nation. They are really just ghost that trigger thoughts of restoration as you taxi by, so sad......Gorgeous 421, great video as always Rich!

      A lot of the older stuff is just going to reach a point where it either can't be kept airworthy, or it becomes too expensive to do so. There are just not enough 1965 Cessna 172s out there, and they're eventually going to start wearing out. I see the cost of new planes, and I have to think a lot of folks will eventually get priced out of the market.

      That’s the Biden agenda behind the curtain, restricting import of parts so you’re forced into these tiny paper kite airplanes powered by snowmobile engines. It’s such a joke to see flat tires everywhere while your taxes get funneled into housing for disgusting refugees.

      Sadly you are correct. I see dozens of planes corroding at every airport I land. Out of medical, to out of annual, and finally to rust & dust.

    My grandfather had owned several aircraft through the years 310, 340, 414 and a 421 just to name a few. He took very good care of his aircraft always maintaining them with the best parts and having the shop go through them a few days before we took any cross country trips including a test flight the day before the trips. The tail number on this 421 looks very familiar so I’ll have to see if I can find some pictures of it to see if the tail numbers match. His 340 and 414 are both in Florida still flying but have been repainted. Really miss getting to fly with him. As a WW2 pilot he was a very good pilot.

You're an inspiration to this rusty pilot (you have so many type-ratings!), and I always look forward to your next video. I like your no- bull, just straight talk approach to your content. One of my first jobs 20 years ago was as a ramp rat. The airport I worked had 2 421s. Part of the apprentice path meant one of my jobs was to compare the log entries to the receipts mailed back when those 421s were away, bring any discrepancies to the attention of the AME. Neither of those planes took a trip without needing service in the field.
    It got to the point where when I'd tow either out of the hangar, I'd just wait by the fuel pump. Because they were ALWAYS going to need the AME to get it going, or nitrogen to fill the strut, or the tire, a bottle of oil, or to to call the guy to unfuck the door seal, after they get gas, which they always needed.
    That one looks really nice, I'm sure it won't be like that for the new owner.
    (This entire video, and the time it took to type this comment is less than the time it took to get one of those 421s started on the best day,)

      Turns out you only need one eye to land an airplane!

    Shucks, if we’re to consider the 421 as a “classic” airplane, then all things considered, I’d rather own a Howard 500.

    Got a lot of hours in 421's. Absolutely beautiful airplane and solid airplane to fly.

    I appreciate your thoughts on value, but have to disagree. As parts and supplies diminish, the value will not drop, it will plummet. That plane is nice, but on incident and it is valueless….

    • @FlyingwithRich
      @FlyingwithRich  Рік тому

      Textron/Garmin/Continental and a multitude of other parts manufacturers/service providers make money on continuing to supply/support them - why would they stop a profitable business which has strong demand? Valueless perhaps in your opinion but I can attest to a robust market for them from pretty smart, successful people so the fact is the opposite of your opinion!
