For those who do not know Gary passed away in 2019 from a brain bleed whilst visiting family in Dubai UAE. There were quite a few young British chefs when Gary arrived on the scene and made my cooking a lot better than it would be otherwise. RIP Gary
Tried Gary's method this morning and it's great. Even though you're are not with us any more Gary you are still helping us to appreciate the art of cooking and encouraging us to be the best we can. .... a sad loss to the culinary world.
I grew up working in restaurant kitchens, my Dad's in particular, surrounded by good chefs and cooks who cared about their craft. This is a truly excellent demonstration. And Gary is right - You do not salt eggs until the finish.
A true loss to not just the culinary world but thee world in general. Absolute gent and a pioneer for many of the chefs that followed in his footsteps. RIP Gary you will be sadly missed but fondly remembered
grew up watching him in the 80s he was the first pioneering tv male chef we saw, his famous trade mark was his handsome looks and spiky hair, he was always very down to earth even in the 80s what a lovely soul he was .I didnt even know that he had moved to Dubai permanently until i heard he passed away RIP
Back in the day he had really cool spiky hair and a bubbly, enthusiastic personality. Above all he had a real passion for the dishes he cooked and that came across wonderfully. I have great memories of him on Ready, Steady, Cook in the early nineties which is curious because he's not listed as ever having been on the show. It's funny how your mind plays tricks on you. An all round gent and sadly missed...
This great man is the reason I got interested in cooking, his Rhodes around Britain cookbook was and still is amazing. We had the privilege of eating at Mezzanine when it first opened in Dubai. Still one of the very best meals I’ve ever eaten. He will be sadly missed
I made this omelette and it was truly delicious! And I found it refreshing that he's given us a method for making the omelette in a more relaxing manner. Thank you Gary!
Best omelette video on YT. He has such passion for his craft. Was nice to see. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go & practice his technique.....and I never have a taste for omelettes.
I may be wrong but I think Gary was working at the Grosvenor House in Dubai when he passed away. Always enjoyed his shows and seemed a genuinely nice guy.
Haha! My dad "taught" me how to cook an omelette about 45 years ago. I've never ever got one to turn out right. Now I know why: my dad said mix the "contents' (cheese, tomato, etc.) and the salt in with the eggs *and milk* in the bowl, then pour it all into the pan together and do not disturb it until it's set. About as opposite as it's possible to be! Tomorrow, I will eat omelettes until I burst.
Many restaurants do it like your dad (without the milk), and just leave it on low heat for a few minutes before putting it under a salamander for anothe few minutes. It's not a french omelet, but put some potatoes in it and you have a spanish Tortilla.
With no offence meant to the departed (RIP; i hv watched sm greats, and Mr Rhodes stands out amongst them both for his skills and attitude. Who likes a stuffed shirt, shouting bull, never mind the skills!) or to any living legend to newbies like me, there is absolutely nothing wrong to either adding salt early, or to adding a dash of milk, or to adding tomato early; i do that and still get similar results. 😊 Ummmm....more than one way to skin a cat, eh?
@@tom_mr97 idk, some people were saying he died, well, most people in the comments. im just believing it because so many people said it but im not sure- i probably shouldnt have believed it so quickly
I worked 5 years with him and with many chefs in London ...he the only chef I know who had no attitude a truly humble gentleman
I agree I think thats why I liked him RIP
No unnecessary yelling huh?
Marcus Wareing always seemed like a decent boss but definitely could be savage. Is that a fair perception or do you know different? 🙂
Yes, I love him too.
And then there's dicks like Gordon Ramsay who claim you can't become a good chef without being treated like shit

The salt thing is a complete myth not backed up by any science
When a person loves their work like Gary they are so at peace and that peace overflows to us
A man who can be this passionate about the humble omelette.... This is why Mr Rhodes is a legend!
Love how he improvises when the omelette doesn't fully fold up 9n the pan. What a champ. RIP Chef
RIP Gary, you were a wonderful influence to the cooking world... I certainly enjoyed watching you as a kid at home.
Loved you Gary. Travel well, you'll be missed by many. A true gentleman.

Rhodes was a very watchable chef, a down to earth guy. I will miss him on tv.
The legend Gary Rhodes will be deeply missed by me.I grew up watching Gary Rhodes on the TV .
Fantastic colour! I always seem to burn my omelettes. I need to turn the heat down a bit, I think...
Thanks to this video I just did my first really good omelette at age 64, after a lifetime of tough, overcooked attempts. Lovely.
Well done. I'm trying my first tomorrow. I'm 63, love omelettes but useless at making scrambled, so always presume, I'll be useless with omelettes 😊
His technique was impeccable. One of the best.
Great chef and a lovely guy with no ego
This guy had a great mix of full on Skills in the Kitchen and a very calm and balanced personality

That's simple poetry in action... Thanks for sharing.
I've been watching omelette videos all evening and this one is the first that brought water to my mouth
Maybe it's just because it's getting late and I'm watching people prepare eggs rather than doing it myself

@@kib2675 yep.. it's not wrong, it's just a different style of omelet. I've heard it called a 'diner style' or 'american style' omelet.
