The thing that makes Gabi so interesting isn't only that she represents the Eldians that Marley used their propaganda on, but she also represents the cycle of hatred. She was taught from birth that she is worth less than everyone else because she is Eldian and so she, like she was taught, blamed the people of Paradis. Then those same people come and destroy her town, so she enacts revenge and kills the Sasha, who killed the gate guards that were kind to her. But the people of Paradis attacked Marley because Eren chose to eradicate the same people that sent Titans to Paradis, but those same people hate the Eldians because they oppressed everyone for 1900 years. Something I find interesting that not a lot of people talk about is how Falco saved not just Gabi, but Jean as well. The same man who would've killed him earlier had Pieck not blown the thunder spear away. They'd both be dead if Falco hadn't survived the battle. I like to think this scene represents the AoT world's cycle of hatred and vengeance. Both sides will just keep killing each other unless one of two things happen. 1) People with enough courage, compassion, and understanding of both sides rise above the cycle and put a stop to it (in this instance Falco). 2) One side completely annihilates the other (Paradis Island uses the Rumbling, or Marley and the other nations attack with their combined armies).
If zeke inherited the founder he wouldn't be able to control it due to the vow of renouncing war that the king settled. But eren can use its full power because that vow doesn't apply to eren coz he's not of a royal blood.
Another unpopular opinion: Gabi is what Eren wished he was in S1. Even tho she's younger and is not a titan shifter, she's more competent than Eren ever was. She's like an improved version of him
1) Eren would be an Eldian restorationist if he was in Gabi's place 2) Eren is often underestimated, if you don't include Mikasa who is an Ackermann and the warrior trio who had prior training, Eren came 1st in his class which is a massive achievement 3) Both are rash and impulsive af (or should I say both were)
Kenny, let me help you out about the Zeke situation. - Expresses his hatred for war in episode 1 - Lied about not having royal blood to Marley his entire life - episode 2 - Alludes that Marleyan Officers were listening in on their convo multiple times, Magath notes on this in episode 2 - Seemed uninterested in Paradis Island Operation, even though he's the War Chief in episode 4 - Eren had a baseball glove in episode 4 - Eren was sending letters for someone to deliver to his friends in episode 4 - Zeke made sure Reiner wasn't around at the plaza in episode 4 - Yelena sent Zeke away, but trapped Porco and Pieck in episode 5 - Both Willy and Magath deduces that Marley have traitors in the military in episodes 4 and 6 - Zeke taking his sweet time to join the battle, both Pieck (had to run to HQ) and Porco (Immediately ran to the plaza) beat him to the battlefield in episodes 6 and 7 - Magath giving Zeke a shady look when he finally joins the battle in episode 7 - Zeke mentions that Levi's running out of time just for him to check his watch in episode 7 - Zeke goes out without putting up any resistance in episode 7 - Eren couldn't have come up with the attack on his own. Scouts expressed that this wasn't their idea and they just had to come. - Eren's only hope of using the Founder is Zeke (Founder must come into control with a TITAN of royal blood) The anime didn't really portray this well, but when Magath was talking about the scout ships going missing, Zeke looked pretty nervous and Magath makes sure to get him say something on it. Another cut was Zeke talking on the phone in his office to some random person, just after Magath and Willy were talking about strange movement on Paradis.
This isn't the first time when Eren reacted to something traumatic with laughter. He acted the same when the mother eating titan killed Hanes and Eren laughed because he felt that he changed nothing and he's still just as helpless as he was at the start.
25:35 well about that. it kinda DID need to happen in a "setting the tone for what's to come" way. Sasha was most of the story's comedic relief, and they just killed her off. the implications of that alone is honestly fantastic storytelling and works so well within the themes of the story I almost can't even be mad. Still cried for most of this episode tho
Well, that was the Marley Arc. I said this at the beginning of the season. Some people call it the moment the series took a nosedive it would never recover from. Some people call it the moment the series reached new heights. I call it my favourite arc in anime. When I finished Season Three, I was expecting the story to turn into a first-contact story, where Paradis would try to make peace with the people outside the walls, finding opposition they would need to overcome. I was looking forward to seeing the cast of characters I'd grown attached to over the past three seasons deal with the prejudices against them. Instead, I got the Marley Arc. The absolutely genius use of a timeskip blows my mind. Isayama decided to introduce the audience to the other side of the conflict through a new POV character in Falco Grice. We get to see exactly what all of them are fighting for, and we realize why Reiner never stopped trying to kill the people inside the walls: Because despite finding out that the "devils" of Paradis are very much human, he still has people at home he cares about more. Gabi Braun is a fascinating character that I really don't hate (or at least hate as much as Floch). She's been described as "Season One Eren that spawned on the enemy team", which definitely applies, but she's also a perfect example of what propaganda can do to a child. My first reaction to the most heartbreaking scene in the entire series imo was "oh my god, that's what they did to her." Eren is, in my opinion, the best written character of the arc and the season in general. Throughout this season, we get to see him as a villain, and he absolutely sells that role. He is utterly ruthless and unbelievably compelling. Declaration of War is my second favourite episode of the entire series, and Eren's terrifying conversation with Reiner may be my favourite scene in Attack on Titan. The raid on Liberio is probably my second favourite action sequence in the series, only losing to the Battle of Shiganshina. Beyond the incredible action, it isn't entirely clear who you should be rooting for, especially since Eren kills so many innocent people. It's truly something special. From a story perspective, I have no problems with the Marley Arc. At all. Literally the only nitpick I have is the lackluster CGI titans, but even then, MAPPA did the best they could with the time they had. The Marley Arc is an arc that lets the audience know that in war, there are no winners, because no matter who wins, they have innocent blood on their hands. It's gripping, it's ruthless, it's compelling, and it's unbelievably unsettling. The only arc in fiction I have ever seen top the Marley Arc is the Marineford Arc of the One Piece manga specifically, and the only other arc I have seen match it is the Siege of Mandalore of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. This should go without saying, but I am giving the Marley Arc of Attack on Titan a 10/10.
Honestly, I love this moment in the show where Sasha gets killed. Not because Sasha died but because it says a lot about the people who react to that moment and instantly hate Gabi despite liking her minutes later. This scene and Bertholdt's death do a similar thing. To sum it up, it's basically "OMG Sasha just killed a bunch of people, go Sasha I love her!" and then "WTF? How dare this child soldier kill Sasha? Sasha was so innocent and that was out of line!"
Fun (depressing) fact for you guys. Sasha’s last words were actually “Niku “which is the japanese word for meat. so in dub they said meat. but it’s commonly speculated that she was actually trying to say Niccolo. the Marleyan volunteer that always cooked for her.
Fun fact. In an interview with isayama’s editor it showed that in the manga sasha was supposed to die way earlier. And since the plan death of sasha was so brutal, the editor heard this then went to the bathroom and cried and that changed isayama’s mind…well almost. And i think jean was supposed to die here
The tragedy built between Gabi and her loved ones and Sasha and her loved ones is so good. It's so amazing to see unfold and then have to sit with and untangle the emotions it leaves you with
When Erin breaks down and life has no meaning anymore to him, he laughs. Just like for Hannes. That shows he loved everyone in the squad. In later episodes you will also see this point of how he cares too much.
Killing sasha was a pivotal point out story. Our comedic relief and most optimistic character is now dead and such is the optimism of the series going forward
RIP Potato girl. Btw, I really don't understand the people who hate Gabi. She is supposed to represent the cycle of hatred and is basically Eren if he was born on the other side of the walls.
You know? Many people started saying they hated her and that she is stubborn after killing Sasha, whereas they hadn't said a word about her before. And, the fact that some refer to her as "the brat that killed Sasha"... Who in SnK hasn't? Even Sasha killed people. That doesn't make justifiable what Gabi did, but I don't understand that expression of hatred towards her RIGHT AFTER she killed Sasha.
It's more the fact that she's similar to Eren, she has the same unlikeable traits that he had. Dogmatic and stubborn. People only really started to warm to Eren after he matured through Season 3.
Because she's narcissistic petulant brat full of hate. Between Falco Gabi Udo and Zofia, Gabi is the only one who display such extreme hatred towards Paradis.
Only thing I gotta say, Zeke can't use the Founder. Because he's of royal blood, the kings will would take over. So their plan would work 100% better if they just stay how they are right now.
Eren’s laugh in this episode always reminded me of Walt’s laugh in “Crawl Space.” Less maniacal, but every bit as creepy and discomforting. You can just feel his sanity leaving him.
eren laughs because he laughs at himself who is always useless in protecting his comrades.. like s2 eps12 when hannes died he also laughed because he was useless and also in this episode when he found out sasha died
At the end of season 3, Zeke said he’d save Eren. Saving him can come in a lot of different forms. Switching sides being one (of many potential options)
There is 1 little problem with Kenny's thought about Zeke's plan. If Zeke were to take the founder he would then be subject to the oath of peace king fritz placed on the royal bloodline.
These reactions from now on will get a lot more fun for you and us viewers because this show, first of all, is gonna get a lot more crazier. And it's gonna be a lot more fun for us viewers too because this is the episode where Kenny doesn't know crap, so this is a truly raw experience for both people. Great reaction!
People hate Gabi for shooting a soldier who just helped trampled on their home but justify the people who trampled on her home because of an incredibly biased perspective. I just feel like people who think this way misunderstand the themes of the show, though its an understandable reaction.
More like they _are_ the people in the show. We can't help it. We're born into a tribe or choose to belong to one, and that tribe becomes everything for us. We spent so long hanging with the Paradis Eldians, we can't help but be on their side and some will excuse any historical justification for their plight. Like Willy said, the Eldians ruled on top for close to 1900 years. They only fell from power a hundred years ago.
The thing is we’re born understanding and living the life of the scouts etc for 3seasons wanting to go out the walls seeing all the sacrifices obviously majority will see it from Paradise view more than anyone else. At the end of the day after we’re done crying about sasha we can understand how brainwashed Gabi is and why she has done what she has done compared to Falco who is basically going through the same but understanding the brainwashing.
Hey Kenny and Montana love the series and your reactions are great. Montana caught on to way more than I did my first watch through. Only thing I'm going to miss is Kenny's 4th wall breaks reminded me of watching the series with my fiance a while back.
I was just innocently scrolling through UA-cam to see this thumbnail and it messed me up lmao. This episode is sad as hell especially since Sasha is my favorite, anyway it’s going to be something to watch your guy’s reactions to.
I think her death is harder because it was so pointless. She was one of the nine survivors of the Battle of Shiganshina, and this is what happens to her?
I haven't been able to rewatch this episode since I first saw it. It literally wrecked me for a week, no joke. I got my tissues at the ready, but I'm not ready 😭💔
I was begging Sasha to not die, I kept saying fight it fight! I was really clinging to hope that she would recover, I was just devastated, even in a reaction video I just can’t help but cry
Obviously. Just because she's kinda unlikable at first, doesn't mean she's an awful character. Even at her worst, I understood why she behaves that way. Her character arc is also one of my favourites of the entire show.
well shash was actually supposed to die earlier back in season 2 in ep 2 by the hands of that short titan brutaly but the editor was upset over this and isayama postponded her death s4
Everyone being pissed at Eren is completely understandable considering the fact that Eren used them. He is well aware of the fact that Paradis doesn't stand a chance without his Titan abilities and he used that to basically blackmail the Scouts into coming to Marley. Not only did a lot of Scouts and innocent people in Marley die because of this, but Sasha also got killed.
Every time even though I'm prepared now, Sasha makes me bawl. It hits me just as hard as Robin's "i want to live" from one piece. I have to pause every time to give myself time to clear my eyes. It's always too much😢😢

Whether or not you actually like her is irrelevant as long as you can empathize with her.
@@CrazeeAdam It's a hard case cause she's directly attacking characters we have known and cared about for way longer. But yeah, she's no worse than they are
Something I find interesting that not a lot of people talk about is how Falco saved not just Gabi, but Jean as well.
She's like an improved version of him
I guess she is an extreme version of eren
She’s so good, imagine if she became a titan shifter, she’d be unstoppable.
@@MarikitKaNa fr fr
1) Eren would be an Eldian restorationist if he was in Gabi's place
2) Eren is often underestimated, if you don't include Mikasa who is an Ackermann and the warrior trio who had prior training, Eren came 1st in his class which is a massive achievement
3) Both are rash and impulsive af (or should I say both were)
@@satvikp3186 hmm, annie and Berthold is above eren, no?
Kenny, let me help you out about the Zeke situation.
- Expresses his hatred for war in episode 1
- Lied about not having royal blood to Marley his entire life - episode 2
- Alludes that Marleyan Officers were listening in on their convo multiple times, Magath notes on this in episode 2
- Seemed uninterested in Paradis Island Operation, even though he's the War Chief in episode 4
- Eren had a baseball glove in episode 4
- Eren was sending letters for someone to deliver to his friends in episode 4
- Zeke made sure Reiner wasn't around at the plaza in episode 4
- Yelena sent Zeke away, but trapped Porco and Pieck in episode 5
- Both Willy and Magath deduces that Marley have traitors in the military in episodes 4 and 6
- Zeke taking his sweet time to join the battle, both Pieck (had to run to HQ) and Porco (Immediately ran to the plaza) beat him to the battlefield in episodes 6 and 7
- Magath giving Zeke a shady look when he finally joins the battle in episode 7
- Zeke mentions that Levi's running out of time just for him to check his watch in episode 7
- Zeke goes out without putting up any resistance in episode 7
- Eren couldn't have come up with the attack on his own. Scouts expressed that this wasn't their idea and they just had to come.
- Eren's only hope of using the Founder is Zeke (Founder must come into control with a TITAN of royal blood)
The anime didn't really portray this well, but when Magath was talking about the scout ships going missing, Zeke looked pretty nervous and Magath makes sure to get him say something on it. Another cut was Zeke talking on the phone in his office to some random person, just after Magath and Willy were talking about strange movement on Paradis.
Zeke is a savage 😂😂😂 calling Falco and Gabi Miscalculations 🔥🔥🔥
My first reaction to the most heartbreaking scene in the entire series imo was "oh my god, that's what they did to her."
Eren is, in my opinion, the best written character of the arc and the season in general.
Sasha was so innocent and that was out of line!"
i need this pinned everywhere
Fun (depressing) fact for you guys. Sasha’s last words were actually “Niku “which is the japanese word for meat. so in dub they said meat. but it’s commonly speculated that she was actually trying to say Niccolo. the Marleyan volunteer that always cooked for her.
“Assassin doesn’t mean successful”
If only that were true in this case
Especially when the Gunholder is Gabi
Fun fact. In an interview with isayama’s editor it showed that in the manga sasha was supposed to die way earlier. And since the plan death of sasha was so brutal, the editor heard this then went to the bathroom and cried and that changed isayama’s mind…well almost. And i think jean was supposed to die here
Oh man I heard this too a long time ago 😭💔
im actually amazed by how kenny didn’t get sasha’s death spoiled

Oh my god. Sasha! It’s been three hours and I’m still crying. Mikasa and Armin there with her just destroyed me. Why is this show like this!
"I hate gabi" welcome to like 90% of the community when these eps came out
Eh more like a loud 40%
The tragedy built between Gabi and her loved ones and Sasha and her loved ones is so good. It's so amazing to see unfold and then have to sit with and untangle the emotions it leaves you with
When Erin breaks down and life has no meaning anymore to him, he laughs. Just like for Hannes. That shows he loved everyone in the squad. In later episodes you will also see this point of how he cares too much.
Killing sasha was a pivotal point out story. Our comedic relief and most optimistic character is now dead and such is the optimism of the series going forward
When I heard that this was Kenny’s first reaction as well, after waiting months to continue watching, I trembled to see their reactions.
RIP Potato girl.
Btw, I really don't understand the people who hate Gabi. She is supposed to represent the cycle of hatred and is basically Eren if he was born on the other side of the walls.
Fax
Gabi is just unlikable
Only thing I gotta say, Zeke can't use the Founder. Because he's of royal blood, the kings will would take over. So their plan would work 100% better if they just stay how they are right now.
Now we can finally see montana looking at kenny to actually see his reaction
like the meme says:
Letts React: What can Gabi do with a Rifle?
Me: Yes!
Kenny's reaction vs Montana's reaction to this episode is totally strengthening my belief that they're gonna be on opposite sides in the next part
26:00
"I don't think anyone would do anything different"
Falco: "Am I invisible to you?!"
Honestly Sasha has been my favorite Character ever since I saw her is Season 1 eating the potato.
it really hurt to see her get shot ='(
There is 1 little problem with Kenny's thought about Zeke's plan. If Zeke were to take the founder he would then be subject to the oath of peace king fritz placed on the royal bloodline.
These videos are way better when you both go into it blind and boy what an episode for you both to go in blind on! RIP Potato Girl.
16:48 I love that you guys started holding hands at that moment🤍
Damn, seeing Eren failing to hold the character when Connie said meat really shows the struggle inside him.
Kenny witnessing Montana simp over Levi so much, he's pulling an Oluo aand imitating his hair style 🤣
Montana simping for Levi is the best part of this episode 😭💀
Love how both of your "no, no" was in sync! It's fun to see you both experiencing the show for the first time!
Nah Gabi is just a shitty person in general.
I never hated her. Like it's sad Sasha get shot, but I thought Gabi was kinda badass too.
When the author killed off the comic relief character, it is a clear sign that the plot will get grim and darker.
*First minutes of Levi*
Montana: Head empty, no thoughts..
To be fair, that's relatable.
Trivia: the author wanted to kill Sasha since season 2 but his editor stopped him
As soon as I realized neither of them knew Sasha dies my heart sank thinking of how they would react. Also watch deathnote!
Hey Kenny and Montana love the series and your reactions are great. Montana caught on to way more than I did my first watch through. Only thing I'm going to miss is Kenny's 4th wall breaks reminded me of watching the series with my fiance a while back.
When both of them are blind reacting and now it's our turn to cackle in glee inside.
Definitely react to Death Note, I feel like Montana would have a field day with that show. FMAB is a great show too though.
I’ll always love Gabi. Such a good character.
I was just innocently scrolling through UA-cam to see this thumbnail and it messed me up lmao. This episode is sad as hell especially since Sasha is my favorite, anyway it’s going to be something to watch your guy’s reactions to.
The “Levi Simping” counter is something I relate to on a spiritual level
(At 25:25) D-did you two NOT just notice Eren laugh just now about Sasha's last words, before grunting?
I think her death is harder because it was so pointless. She was one of the nine survivors of the Battle of Shiganshina, and this is what happens to her?
Unfair pointless death happens all the time

well shash was actually supposed to die earlier back in season 2 in ep 2 by the hands of that short titan brutaly but the editor was upset over this and isayama postponded her death s4
