That speech Eren had with Mikasa and Armin broke my heart the first time I watched it. @@jittercritter It is a pretty shocking moment tbf. The biggest hint was that Eren just seems so dead at that point..like he didn't wanna be there even but knew he had to talk to them and get them somehow to protect them possibly. Eren doing his best acting job
I've seen many shows where the main character makes mistakes or maybe even shows his dark side from time to time, but rarely to the same extent as Eren. Seeing him become so cold and calculating really gives us viewers an identity crisis because he used to be the guy we were rooting for. And even though we don't know the context yet, this character progression just feels right. They may have had it coming, but Eren still killed people at a young age without showing any remorse. His blind rage and lust for blood combined with his obsession with wiping out the titans were also some major red flags. The signs were always there, we just didn't want to see it, due to our bias. "Well, he's the main character, so he must be in the right.". This season really changes the entire game when it comes to which side we are rooting for. And it's about to become even more complicated :)

@@koki84ji7 In any other scenario I would agree but when cutting him up is what's needed to stop him from regenerating enough to transform into a titan again, then that's the lesser evil here. But people who can't feel empathy for a character like Zeke while knowing his entire story are just blind to me. Both Eren and Armin did basically the same amount of bad things that Zeke (at this point in the story). They attacked a bunch of enemy fighters and chose to murder innocent civilians to accomplish their goals. Does that mean people with zero empathy for Zeke have zero empathy for Eren and Armin? Nope! They just saw one side first so they imprinted "my tribe" on the Paradis Eldians and go on with the great old "my tribe good, your tribe bad" mentality. Isn't that kind of the same kind of slavery Eren mentioned in this episode and considered disgusting?

@@Samgreen90 Internalized racism is a thing and while Gabi is 100% a victim and I really love this character her victimization is based mostly on how Marley shoved propaganda down her throat and did make her become racist against her own race. However the thing is that her racism isn't her fault and it's not her that we should blame.
The expression that Levi gets when it dawns on him that he has to kill his friends is just tragic. It's like he thought "Well, I've been dragged back into this hell."
I don't think that Kenny and Levi were/are programmed. Kenny tried to kill Uri with his knife. And even if they were kinda programmed i don't think that they are like machines and listen to commands. Mikasa stopped Armin only instinctively: She didn't stop Armin's second attack. I'm still not sure how this all works but I don't think it is that easy.
(spoilers / suppositions for the end) I've read it all but I don't remember the details so maybe it's part speculation and part spoiler, don't read if you don't want any of this. ... ... So, about the Ackerman, I don't think it is a made up thing, not an entirely made-up thing anyway. It seems that all Ackerman we know have this power-up thing when they find, obey to or want to protect the person ( and that's the important part : ) they PERCIEVE (or CHOSE, even if it is an instinctive choice) as their king. For Kenny it was Uri. For Mikasa it is Eren. For Levi it was Erwin. What is made-up in my opinion is the fact that they have no choice in that and thus are slaves. I think they have some choice in this, in the same way we have choices in our on life. Takes love for example, it's origin can be nothing more than feelings, chemical reactions in our brains we have no control over. No one decide what it feels like, how, when and whom to be in love with. Are we slaves for that reason ? No, I don't think so. We don't chose how we feel and who we feel for, but we definitely chose what to do with these feelings and emotions. I can't believe I'd say that but I stand by Kenny the Reaper on this one : everyone is a slave to something. For some it's substance, for some it's affection, recognition, fame, for others it can be pursuit of knowledge, duty, heroism, a greater purpose, for some even, themselves and their own pleasure and safety...
A lot of reactors think that Levi looked like he didn't care when his squad was killed by the female Titan in season one. You could say the same here, because his facial features are still "cool" so it's awesome that this time we hear his inner dialogue.
This episode proves to me that people who defend Floch only see his "good" traits and parts and not his horribly abusive bad parts. The dude is a sociopath and he needed help a long time ago for his issues. Guy shouldn't be allowed within miles of firearms or blades, not to mention to not be put in a position of any sort of power.
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate how insanely different Montana is able to handle blood and gore. In episode one for example she couldn't even look at a severed arm and now she handles that kinda stuff really well she didn't even looked away when Levi started chopping Zeke's feet's off.^^
I couldn't help but laugh when Keith Shadis said "no matter how many of these weak brats come at me, they wont be nearly enough", then it cuts to him pummeled on the ground and the scouts with blood on their hands.
@@prashant2840 While he didn't deserve being beated up by his students Floch and the students kinda had a point. It's useless to train to only kill titans when right now the main enemies are humans. They should train them to fight both not just titans.
(At 6:33) despite the facts he's spitting about the Ackerman clans and Bertoldt, I'm not surprised y'all haven't noticed he's adding LIES in between those facts. Just like Yelena and Zeke have already done. Visiting Eren and the side effects of Zeke's spinal fluid are good examples.
SPOILERS: doesn't the scene with Eren and Zeke talking in Marley confirm that the part about Ackerman blood/loyalty was also a lie? Zeke tells Eren Mikasa just straight up likes him, but Eren lies to Mikasa about that because he needs Mikasa to stop liking him.
(At 11:20) surprisingly, she's been very quiet and not getting involved… yet. Though I'm not sure how I feel about Eren calling her, "Kid who killed Sasha" continuously.
Oh dayum... I never considered the potential that Kenny's actions were also determined by his blood but that's a hugely interesting point! Great reaction to a great episode
Do y'all hate eren "the owl" Kruger too? I mean he probably transformed more innocents into titans than zeke He also tortured them as well all for the sake of his cause It would be pretty hypocritical if you love the owl and hate zeke
@@user-zc2hz3yj2k isayama actually made a commentary about that He called it "zeke distancing himself from his actions by thinking of it as a baseball game" He knows his actions are unforgivable and he has no rights to feel bad because that would be hypocritical so he just embraces it
It’s human behaviour to feel that way. We’re often hypocritical by design, bcs we care for a few but hate the “other”. I’m sure enough backstories for anyone can make us like anyone.
They're watching this for the first time. All those torture and killing Kruger did was off screen, while they saw Zeke's cruelty I front of their very eyes. It's nothing but natural for them to feel this way now. Kenny said that he hates Gabi when she killed Sasha, but he obviously doesn't anymore. So, calm down.
@@akhiltrc9708 yup as my favorite antagonist in literature said "saints committing sins on a whim, criminals doing some good deeds, it is that contradiction that makes us human" We are hypocritical by nature but i was surprised because when watching a show I usually never root for anyone and see their actions not as good or bad but as just actions done by people. I usually only commit on the morality of characters after the show is done since by the nature of a show we don't know everything we are intended to know before it is finished so there's no point in commenting on the status quo (unless it's for theorizing or stuff like that)
Obligatory recommendation for FMA. It has far more change consistency of quality than death note(pt2 isn’t that good) and is already finished, unlike Demon Slayer, so we know it’s going to be good all the way.
Actually, Eren has come around about Mikasa before time skip, if you look at anything after the season 2 finale, Eren has been a lot more kind to her, even saying he was jealous of her in season 3 part 1. I‘m a manga reader, I‘m not gonna say anything else now since that‘d be spoilery, but just think about it for a sec. It’s either “He has changed“, or “He‘s lying“.
Eren and reiner conversation and this episode soldiered what eren really is fighting for. While safety for his own friends is one of his motivation. But like reiner, eren too has selfish motivation and thus he is self loathing like reiner was in s4 epi 3 and on the brink of killing himself. Therefore he has to make sure that his loved ones don't love him anymore. He feels he doesn't deserve their love
Yep. Eren was jealous of mikasa, he wanted to be the one to protect mikasa and not other way round. And here, he was at his lowest point and he felt he doesn't deserve mikasas love. It's tragic ngl
For real that's what I thought. Maybe the pandemic brought out the necessary stress and gravitas to allow them to feel more in tune with the gloomy AOT world.
Well,,,, if you hate Floch now then you better save some hatred for part 2. Cz you'll hate him even more in part 2. By the way,,, Floch have one of the most impressive character development in anime and he is played an awesome villain. His actions are just to protect paradis. He is just an extremist.
I can’t hate him for some reason, sure I don’t agree with most of the things he does, but I just enjoy his character too much. He’s kinda more entertaining then some of the main cast
Calling him an extremist is just an insult… The World wants their extinction. Zeke wants them Euthanized. Marley wants them to suffer and be subjugated. What do you expect? If you were in Flochs shoes how would you respond when 95% of the worlds population wants you to just stop living? Anyone who hates Floch lacks basic Empathy.
I really don't get that people really fall for this trap of Eren and really started to think that Eren really hates mikasa and armin... It was so obvious to me that he was doing this to protect them by severing ties with them....!!!!!!!!!!
Well yes, but I still think that he has too many of hatred and bloodlust in him to be called "all good right hero" of the story, yes, he is severing ties with them to protect them, but he still does this in violent and bloody way...just as usual for him.So this isn't much of a trap, but more like a representation of all Erens actions - always protecting his loved ones, but with aggression and unnecessary violence
Every single anime only was shocked to see this scene man.. Eren literally obliterated armin physically and mikasa mentally😂 To think that once they were best friends.. What a chad move from Eren!
This isn't a Chad move from eren. Eren literally is depressed and filled with guilt and self hatred. He feels he doesn't deserve their friendship and love.
@Big boy true af.. Most of aot characters are dumb especially the cringe avengers..Eren should not even be placed among them.. His character is world class
This ep was heartbreaking lol. The only thing I was they added was a flashback of all them happy together as kids, just for a second, before it goes back to them all broken
On the subject of Eren being free, it's interesting to note that he started wearing his hair in a bun after he ate Lara Tybur, who had that same hairstyle.
Same! Been a Jean and Mikasa shipper since season 2 when he saves her from the Titan that grabs her. I haven’t read the manga either but I got my fingers crossed.
I grew up in two different societies where peasant and slave mentality were and remain the norm so I understand Eren's disgust with it. It has annoyed me all my life. But I wouldn't say it made me hate anyone. If anything, I wanted to help such people break free and just felt sorry for them.
Eren was obviously lying about that tho. Are you caught up with both parts of season 2?? He doesn’t feel disgust to people who are slaves, he feels empathy and compassion to them
Not really. Eren himself says he is free but is guided by a future vision that he saw in medal ceremony. Even though the future is what he wants, he is depressed and filled with self hatred for what he is about to do. The man says armin is manipulated by berrtolt while he himself has an enemy titan called war hammer titan. Eren is the most caged person in this show and that is because of his outlook. Spoilers for s4 epi 28 He also lied about Ackerman bond to mikasa saying that she was a slave when in reality it was just her trauma bonding and love for eren that made her protective of eren. If eren really was dissecting their characters he really didn't need to come up with lies. It's simple that eren is depressed and filled with self hatred and knows what he is about to do is the worst acts of violence every done in history of humanity and believes he doesn't deserve love from his close friends. Anyone who believes that eren is a Chad doesn't understand his inner mental framework which is disturbed and is in need of therapy.
@@shubhamvyas3192 I didn't mean it as a plot thing.

Nope!
I think we all need to take another moment to really appreciate how far Montana has come with her tolerance for gory scenes. 👏👏👏 Excellent work
We actually see ksaver-san in season 3 when girisha says zeke forsoke his parents for his grandparents
