Brubeck was my introduction to Jazz. Take Five was the song. I've never heard it as an orchestral piece before. Whoever the arranger is, he did a marvelous job.

What a beautiful song! Saw all the late 70’s - early 80’s ska and reggae greats! I don’t understand how anyone could give this a thumbs down! 🤦🏻♂️ Peace and Love ❤️
It's not a thumbs down, the musicianship is good. It's just that some songs only work in the time signature they were originally written in (5/4). The specials did this in 4/4 too and it didn't work then.
@@AYTAZED That depends. Dave Brubeck's version was (for all I can remember) my first introduction into Jazz. it has classic status. But, as a huge appreciator of Ska, this version works for me too.Or at least it did up to the point the vocalist effed it up.
OMFG! I loved the original! Love Ska! Am gobsmacked by this! Thank you so much! And Dave B has such a great character and backstory, so anything that draws positive attention to him is fab too!
Gran complimenti a tutti.
Your band makes some of the most beautiful music on the face of the earth! The reggae undertone is BRINGING THE JAZZ BACK into relevance in music again!
My all time favorite Just Take Five version, the instrumental performance 💯the best, nothing will ever take over real instrument sounds,I just love instrumental performance’s.
Love this, music is to be enjoyed, played with and played about with, have fun with and more than anything else make your own, if you don't like this find something you do like and enjoy that...I think it should be called Take Away.
I can't stop watching this! I love this version! I play the trombone in a ska band in Argentina and I would be really grateful if you could share with me the score of this version so I can play it with my band. Thanks and congratulations!
Earlier today for the first time I heard a version of Take Five converted to 3/4 time. Now I get to hear it in 4/4 time and with a ska beat even! I will sleep happily tonight.
I see a lot of comments about the lack of 5/4 timing not bringing the flavor and the tack should be called something else. Before we condemn this track to hell, this is just a rendition of Desmond's tune and a damn nice one at that. It's the spirit of the track that makes this worthy of positive attention not that it's not in 5/4 time. I say thumbs up, dig it for what it is not for what it's not. 'Tis not what man does which exalts him, but what man would do!
Lol too challenging. C'mon, seeing the quality these musicians have it's not a matter of being "too challenging". If you want to have it ska-ish you have to change the beat
This a great arrangement of the classic Take Five my local jazz fanfare bought this arrangement and adapted it for our instruments it works really well.
Read the comments please. We don't need another fifty-seven smart-arses to tell us about the timing that the tune should be played at. The tune is called 'take five' - the story behind the naming is just an aside.
Can't comprehend why I love this version more than original one. Gotta face it, Take Five might have influenced a lot of people and show the whole world how important 5/4 is (it's not, sorry the blunt honesty) that doesn't make it to take me away a third of what this one does. I like Take Five, it's an ok song, we all do, but let's face it: It's not the second coming of Christ, in fact, most people nowadays don't even know it anymore.
I love this though it seems to be more of a slow reggae beat. If you listen to much ska music you'll hear a much faster rhythm. I actually expected this tune kick into double time after the first chorus. Nice filming, great band, just not quite the ska I hear with The Skatalites, mon.
I hear ya, the guitar also wasn't doing as many dead notes, as I was expecting for ska. I'd say the bassline is between ska & reggae, while the horns were reggae, this is IMO. The singer was ska tho lol
Brubeck was my introduction to Jazz. Take Five was the song. I've never heard it as an orchestral piece before. Whoever the arranger is, he did a marvelous job.
This is fun as is Tito Puente's Latin version - it's just a genius of a tune
@@cooldebt I'll have to look that up. Thanks
Take five, composed by Paul Desmond.
Check this orchestral version ua-cam.com/video/XRYs2nvAnqA/v-deo.html (may favourite, next to the original by Brubeck 4)
If you haven't heard it yet, check "Take Five" by Quincy Jones Orchestra. You won't regret :)
Won't you stop and take
A little time out with me
Just take five
Stop your busy day
And take the time out
To see if I'm alive
Though I'm going out of my way
Just so I can pass by each day
Not a single word do we say
It's a pantomime and not a play
Still, I know our eyes often meet
I feel tingles down to my feet
When you smile, that's much too discreet
Sends me on my way
Wouldn't it be better
Not to be so polite
You could offer a light
Start a little conversation now
It's alright, just take five
Just take five
i feel the same, it´s not a blame. of anyone, to see someone, or no. a lonesome view from here. greetings.
"And take the time out" nice nod to the whole Brubeck 'Time' series
Gracias
Al Jarrearu's rendition of this will knock you out!

Fluid and very tight arrangements amazing the organ sound is off the chart. The best cover yet bar none !!!!
"One good thing about music; When it hits you feel no pain"!
What a beautiful song!

Some people can't like two versions of a song. They have a favorite and anything else is a thumbs down.
It's not a thumbs down, the musicianship is good. It's just that some songs only work in the time signature they were originally written in (5/4). The specials did this in 4/4 too and it didn't work then.

It's flat and lifeless. They somehow managed to suck all the magic out of this tune.
I wasn't sure what to expect with this, but you all did it beautifully. It left me smiling. The vocals were a great touch.
I grew up listening to Brubeck.
Get over it. Listen.
This is fresh.
I love this comment 💕 lol same! music is music.
Amen.

Excellent guys, you simply blow my mind. I love THAT voice!!
You aint jazz til you've covered this song.
Dave Brubeck would be proud!
Grandes!!!
Jah man,... Power to the People,....
Great take on Take 5. What makes this so Specials is that drum Beat
A superb performance! Dave Brubeck would be proud of it!

What a fantastic interpretation of this great old song - i knew I'd love it from just 20 seconds in.
Ufffffffffffffffffff

Val Bennett did the original Reggae version of this in 68 and has been done by countless other Ska and Reggae groups!
Including King Tubby, The Specials, The Skatalites, New York Ska Jazz Ensemble, The Toasters, etc. etc.
la mejor version que he escuchado!!!
The ska version already blew me away...but you added vocals...😮...One word...COOOL 😎
J. Angelo Alconaba this is reggae not ska
It's true, Vitaliy. Good arrangements need good musicians to bring them properly to life.
Take Five !
This is Jazz, adapting what is there into what you do. Great performance!
Very good love the fusion of ska...jazz....and a pinch of reggae.....a nice blend......👍
This is kinda 5/4 taken into reggae style... Nice improvisation and harmony as well... Just nailed it. ♥️✨
Pretty sure they're playing it in 4/4.
Excelente orquestra. E a Rosa Mussin... uma Diva!
The thing about Jazz is it allows for variations like this. Very enjoyable

Superb music. I love it. Thank you all very much. I’d love to come to a gig of yours, maybe one day. Many thanks from Wales.

Gracias a ustedes y gracias a Dios por hacer ésta linda melodía!
Dios los bendiga!
This is somewhat reggae like!! Awesome!!
Never before have I seen matching finishes on drums and guitar! (3:29) Great vibe, too.
Excelente versión de "take 5" 👍👏👏 disfrutando desde Cd. Juárez, Mexico
I have looked at your other videos and I think this is by far the most effective .
I'd like to see one of you guys commenting do 5/4 ska version.
It's either ska or 5/4 , can't be both!
everyone commenting about how it's not a 5/4. It's a nice coverable jazz standard. It does not have to keep the original beat to be good.
I'm in love with this version and the singer... Isn't she wonderful
Que vibe, que pedrada! Máxima gratidão!
My all time favorite Just Take Five version, the instrumental performance 💯the best, nothing will ever take over real instrument sounds,I just love instrumental performance’s.
i missed the 5/4.. but it sounds good:)
Excelente trabaja.
Me gustó.
¡Bravo!
Love this, music is to be enjoyed, played with and played about with, have fun with and more than anything else make your own, if you don't like this find something you do like and enjoy that...I think it should be called Take Away.

What is the name of the band you play in please?
Definitely 5
STUMBLED ACROSS THIS "WHAT A BEAUTIFULL PIECE OF MUSIC"
Que HERMOSO gran talento, fantástica producción¡¡👏👏
Boooom!! What a tune, what a version!!
Bet on it then
Fantastic!. Saw Dave Brubeck play this live in Lincoln.Mass. outdoors.

Absolutely beautiful... eternely beautiful. big up !
That's "Take FOUR" !!!
jaja
I believe they have tried 5/4 and found it too challanging. so the easiest way is switch to 4/4😅
Top Comment!
@@roissaad6788 Too challenging?! Lol. If you can't play in 5, don't cover a song in 5.

Love this music, beat and vibe.
While this is very good, shouldn't this cover be called Take 4?
I was thinking that too
exactly hahaha
+Sir Duke can this be played in 5/4 like this? I have seen several performances and every one is in 4/4
exactly
+3ersol The original arrangement plus what I have seen in my own personal experience has it written in 5/4 time.
Gracias.
take five is a strong standard because it is 5/4. Take it away, you take all the glow with it.
agree to disagree.
You may have said what I was trying to say in even fewer words. If so, kudos.

Wonderful version, still rewinding!!
taking an iconic 5/4 groove and smooshing it into 4/4 is masterful... but you shafted the drummer out of his joe morello solo!
Great version of this song... love it love it love it... way to lay it down guys and topped of with the lady singer!
Still beautiful
Muito bom !!!!!!
wow the singer has a very beautiful voice!
The grooviest version I have heard till yet.
Yes indeed!
