    This is what Dodge engineers would come up with if they were tasked with designing an economy car, except it would have a two liter…supercharger. I just learned about the Aston Martin Cygnet today and boy is that car cursed. Also you know your naming is good when it borrows from the Yugo. The Yugo GV also stood for good value. Idk if there was any value but it was cheap.

      So basically an SRT-4 Neon? But that was turbo and fwd. Still cool that they actually made it. I think this could be a candidate for a twin charger setup (can you do that in Automation?) although it would make it seriously nose heavy. A mid engine setup a la Renault 5 would completely transform the handling.

    • @myles5874
      @myles5874 2 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately superchargers aren’t in the game just yet. The next update (4.3) is when they’re supposed to be added. Pretty sure twin charging was also confirmed for this update.

    Dude, turbo tuning, if you use the new turbo map, you can definitely engineer a lot of the lag out and maintain higher torque for more of the RPM band.
    That said, love your stuff!
    Edit: for high RPM you're going to want a large compressor/small turbine setup, so maximise the turbo's effectiveness on the top end but also reducing the spool, depending on the setup, smart boost will either increase lag or dramatically decrease it in Automation

    • @reedman0780
      @reedman0780 2 роки тому

      Im a huge noob when it comes to turbo tuning. How do I adjust it so I can move the peaks or start boost in high psi? Like low rpm and high rpm, plus getting more rpms on it while maintaining high boost at mid rpm?

    • @valiantdiesel1332
      @valiantdiesel1332 2 роки тому +5

      @@reedman0780 To be honest, even though the beta tuning is a huge step up from what we had before, it's not super in depth to the point of engineering exactly what you want all the time.
      That said, the compressor map is really useful, and it's all I really use to work out the limits of the engine I'm building. What I've learned so far is this:
      Compressor: Bigger = more top end power and more room for higher boost at the cost of lag. You're going to want the boost map to basically fill the chart, so increasing boost to the power level you want and then decreasing the compressor size to the smallest that can cope with that boost to minimise lag is the method I tend to use.
      Turbine: Bigger = More room for boost at the cost of spool time, no real effect on the top-end. I always aim for the smallest possible turbine I can get because it dramatically affects when the turbo starts to spool. I tend to use the boost control setting on road engines, because that's normally the earliest you can get your desired turbo to get on boost. As you increase the size of the other components, and the boost, that turbine will take longer to spool up (which can be an issue if you've got a flat spot/gearing issues, especially on AWD cars which don't lose a bit of traction off the line in Beam).
      A/R: Usually, this just moves the whole compressor map one way or the other, and doesn't have a huge effect at the moment. If you want big power at high RPM, then you're best off sacrificing some spool time and pushing the A/R a little bit higher and vice versa for smaller, quicker spooling turbos.
      Boost: Increasing this obviously just adds power, and doesn't really cost anything other than octane. What you've got to be mindful of is that as you increase the boost, the boost map increases upwards and rightwards, so generally you just need a bigger overall turbo to cope with much higher boost. If you start of with a desired boost level, you can build a turbo around that by increasing the compressor size until it can cope up to redline (sometimes it's worth reducing the redline by a few hundred RPM if you're having issues) and then increasing/decreasing the turbine size to get the shortest possible spool time, with that in mind you should have a really good turbo.
      Finally, the intercooler: Increasing the intercooler size allows for more power, but increases the strain on the compressor at higher RPM (moves the boost line rightward) and increases weight. I normally aim for an intercooler a couple hundred hp above the power level I want, because if you increase the intercooler size too much you'll get more power, but you'd have to increase the compressor size to cope.
      I hope this helps!
      Edit: Couple of things I missed. Firstly the quality sliders make a massive effect on turbos, and increase the overall size of the compressor map and allow for more power and less spool time, while I was learning how to make them I would bump the sliders a little just for more wiggle room (and then usually use +2 or +3 on road engines to make the torque curve feel more realistic on new engines).
      Also, if you've still got some octane to play with, on a car with VVL, I always move the cam timing down to make more torque down low (if you've got VVL it won't affect your peak power but will give you much better low and mid range performance, and economy).
      Also also! I always use ball-bearing turbos, and it's easier to get a really good curve from a single VGT or twin-scroll than it is from twin/quad turbos. There's definitely more power to be had out of the twin turbo setups, but it's usually more difficult to get the boost to come in as low as you'd want it to on a modern, or luxury, car. It all depends on the engine you're building and the car you'll be putting that in though, so play around, make a bunch of engines and have fun :)

    That thing is all kinds of fun, which I know was the point. But if you'd put the engine in the middle and stiffened up the roll bars, it would drive like a whole diff car that could hang with supercars of the era. I'd say shorter gearing would help too but it crushed the drag strip so apparently the ratios are working just fine.
    Just out of curiosity, how does the weight of a V16 1.1L compare to others like a 3 or 4 liter of the same size?
    Anyway, love the experiment. Subscribed.

    • @nickcook7408
      @nickcook7408 2 роки тому

      98 octane is cheap shite. You can buy 99 at the pump which is an acceptable fuel for low performance engines with low compression ratios, low thermal loads and low expectations.
      Proper engines, with more than 14:1 CR, more than 10k rpms, high temperature, high boost, lots of spark advance and acceptable performance want fuels with appropriate AKI.
      My preferred mix is a 75/25 blend of Toluene and 100LL - takes all the temp and pressure you can throw at it, with ZERO KR.
      Fuel selection is critical.
