- Title: Embodied Silence: A Transnational Magdalene Laundry Legacy
Delivered by Dr Rie Croll of Memorial University to an audience invited by Waterford Institute of Technology
Organised by Dr Jennifer O’Mahoney, Lecturer in Psychology, Co-Director of Crime and Justice Research Group, WIT
This lecture explores a shared, hidden, and silenced dimension of Canada's and Ireland's past: the Magdalene Laundries. In probing this common history, Dr Croll's lecture focuses on silence as a form of violence and punctuates the value of considering it as an abiding theme, metaphor, and bridge, linking the Magdalene laundry experiences across national boundaries.
