🏍 WHO IS TIM COLLINS OF FTA ADVENTURES? (FORMERLY FORTY TIMES AROUND)
A lifelong adventure enthusiast and a long time motorcycle traveler, I have spent the last few years honing my craft as a motorcycle adventure specialist.
Motorcycle travel and camping have become my largest passions in life. I have a meticulous nature that helps me analyze gear, technique and tactics in a way that is highly beneficial to anyone looking to embark on a motorcycle venture of any scope.
My wife and I save a small fortune by using a food dehydrator making meals before we leave. Plan our meals around dried veggies. Can always restock with rice, lentils as we go.
That's a great idea!
I do the same thing. Cooked rice, red beans, lentils can be dried and almost like instant re-hydrating. I also try to take a large amount of dried meat. Good healthy cheap meals.
I like you way of describing camping as continuing your adventure versus a motel where you sit and watch TV. Thanks Tim Ride Safe
Glad you liked that! Ride safe
Great advice thanks for taking the time to share. I did a trip from Perth WA to Melbourne Victoria (about 2000 Miles) and camped on the side of the road, (well a little off the side) and used gas stations for a hot shower (about $2). Keep those great videos coming.
That's awesome! Thanks will do
Made my morning brother seeing you post a new video! Thanks for sharing this, great ideas. Enjoy this gorgeous AZ weather we have now 🤘
Thank you! You too!
100% agree with this. I saved so much money pre-buying my snacks in cost saving stores then grabbing snacks in the gas stations. I prefer staying in hotels, especially nice ones and I use discounts on travelling apps to get money off of bed & breakfasts. I got a 30% discount off of my favourite hotel by contacting them directly and being a returning customer. The hotel gave me the discount price and loyalty discount at the time. Excellent video! Thank you!
That’s awesome! Thank you!
@@FTAAdventures No, thank you! been watching your videos since 2020 and they've really helped me in my motorcycle travels since!! Thank you!
You’re absolutely right about turning on the TV in a motel. It’s the adventure pause button.
Thanks for all you do, man! Wishing you all the best on your adventures.
Thanks, you too!
Good tips 👍. Some make more sense than others but all very useful. Budget is the biggest factor on a trip.
Glad it was helpful!
These tips can also be used by RVers. We were full time form6 years in our RV and did exactly these tips. We even camped for free in a 45’ Toyhauler. Great tips Tim
That is awesome! Thank you!
If you pack powdered drink mixes (coffee, energy ,etc) then you can just get hot/cold water to mix your own drinks.
Excellent tip! Thanks
pro tip: AARP can sign up regardless of age. and offers tons of discounts. AAA. is similar. I'd also highly recommend get a CC with travel points. so when you're buying things in normal life, groceries, bills, what have you. use credit smart. Can bank points to stay at hotels for free. Also can be used for concerts/events.
Excellent tips! Thanks
Thanks Tim, great ideas.
Thank you!
Great tips, Tim. My main takeaway from this video is: "planning". Good stuff.
Glad it was helpful!
Yes! Better snacks at a much better cost. If I can avoid the counter in the convenience store, I’ll save $$. Restroom and out.
Also you can shop a a store selling bulk foods and prepackage your own snack bags of nuts and dried fruits which give your body good choices.
That's a great idea!
Nice information and a attention getter for the next road trip. RIDE SAFE OUT THERE!
Thanks, you too!
Thanks, Tim. I'm guilty of the water bottle thing too. Lately I started carrying a hydropack and that definitely saves $$
Good call!
I find the freeze dried hiking meals to be a quick easier and actually cheaper meal choice on most my trips. Very easy to prepare in a small tent. Folgers “singles” are very convenient coffee as well.
Great tips! I do the same
Great job, thanks
Thanks for watching!
Great advice Tim.
Glad it was helpful!
Great tips well said sooooo true !!
Glad you think so!
Some great ideas, thanks 😊
Glad you like them!
Great tips here!
Glad you think so!
Yes to all of them!
On the water front, I use a grayl water filter and managed to not buy a single ounce of water over 3 months of use.
That’s awesome!
Sorry I'm late to this one for some reason. Good stuff as always.
Great tips
Glad you like them!
Beef jerky goes a long way and doesn't hog up space in your bags. Wish I was back in Arizona, weather looks great.
That’s a great tip! I love beef jerky
I travel with a buddy and we split the the hotel cost. We look for budget motels during our lunch stop. We grocery shop before hitting our hotel and we each have large camel backs that we fill with ice and water. Saves a lot of cash.
That is awesome!
Great video!! If we are going to stop for snacks we try and hunt down a Dollar general, they seem to be everywhere ✌️
Dollar general is the best!
Great tips as always. 👍 Have you ever used Bunk-A-Biker?
Not yet
I ride in so. Florida I have a Carmel back that I fill at gas station soda fountains the trick is get one with a fold over top so it fills EZ and drys ez and cleans ez I have never been charged to fill with ice and water also cools my back while riding
great idea -- my wife is constantly refilling water bottles from the "soda" (pop) dispenser.
Bunk-A-Biker, my Dude's. Free
Is your top case a custom box/ install? Can you do a video on that?
Here’s a video on that: ua-cam.com/video/N7RP3PJNGik/v-deo.htmlsi=stnOOBlbfvG5WcDO
When are you doing the Alaska adventure
Maybe next year, depends on a few things. As soon as I can though.
Hello Tim, nice to see you in such great weather, today it snowed for the first time since the summer. Most of the tips can also be used in Germany, except for free camping in nature...that is officially forbidden in Germany. Greetings Michael!
Thanks Michael! Sorry to hear you can’t camp for free over there!
Somewhere a timeshare rep howled when you shared the one trick those guys hate "Don't tell them not to buy the timeshare!!!" LOL. Excellent advice. I just picked up a 2024 GS Adventure (Triple Black) in mid-April, and I am looking forward to doing much more bike travelling.
Is canned food the most budget food? I don't travel often, and when I have I eat out. I wonder if packing a day or two worth of canned food would be too heavy.
I’ve done that. I usually go for things that just need water to cook, like pasta because it’s light. But cans work too, if it’s a day or two at a time.
Hey where were you at around the 2:50 mark?
Black Canyon of the Gunnison in Colorado. Well worth a visit.
Hey Tim ,
I save so much money by not bringing my wife on moto trips that I am able to take more trips. That is tip # 147
lol that’s a great tip!
I would suggest as well that when you do have to spend the night in a hotel, as the need arises, select a joint that offers a free breakfast. Knocking that one meal off the hit list, and grabbing a bagel or a banana on the way out for later can soften the blow of the expense of the hotel room.
I always locate the hotel laundry (not the coin-op, the pro version) and ask them if I can nab a towel, they always have loads of clean towels that are just shy of qualifying for putting back in the rooms, and I use the towel to wipe overnight moisture from the bike, clean bugs off the screen, et cetera. I have even borrowed a garden hose and washed road grime off the bike while getting ready for the ride away from the hotel, they seem to get a kick out of it.
Thanks for the tips!
I use a 2 quart canteen & my camel pack. Never pay for water. Men's room at any fast food or gas stations. Dehydrated foods work great.
Great tips!
