My wife and I save a small fortune by using a food dehydrator making meals before we leave. Plan our meals around dried veggies. Can always restock with rice, lentils as we go.

I do the same thing. Cooked rice, red beans, lentils can be dried and almost like instant re-hydrating. I also try to take a large amount of dried meat. Good healthy cheap meals.

I like you way of describing camping as continuing your adventure versus a motel where you sit and watch TV. Thanks Tim Ride Safe

Great advice thanks for taking the time to share. I did a trip from Perth WA to Melbourne Victoria (about 2000 Miles) and camped on the side of the road, (well a little off the side) and used gas stations for a hot shower (about $2). Keep those great videos coming.

100% agree with this. I saved so much money pre-buying my snacks in cost saving stores then grabbing snacks in the gas stations. I prefer staying in hotels, especially nice ones and I use discounts on travelling apps to get money off of bed & breakfasts. I got a 30% discount off of my favourite hotel by contacting them directly and being a returning customer. The hotel gave me the discount price and loyalty discount at the time. Excellent video! Thank you!

You’re absolutely right about turning on the TV in a motel. It’s the adventure pause button.

These tips can also be used by RVers. We were full time form6 years in our RV and did exactly these tips. We even camped for free in a 45’ Toyhauler. Great tips Tim

If you pack powdered drink mixes (coffee, energy ,etc) then you can just get hot/cold water to mix your own drinks.

pro tip: AARP can sign up regardless of age. and offers tons of discounts. AAA. is similar. I'd also highly recommend get a CC with travel points. so when you're buying things in normal life, groceries, bills, what have you. use credit smart. Can bank points to stay at hotels for free. Also can be used for concerts/events.

Yes! Better snacks at a much better cost. If I can avoid the counter in the convenience store, I’ll save $$. Restroom and out.

Also you can shop a a store selling bulk foods and prepackage your own snack bags of nuts and dried fruits which give your body good choices.

I find the freeze dried hiking meals to be a quick easier and actually cheaper meal choice on most my trips. Very easy to prepare in a small tent. Folgers “singles” are very convenient coffee as well.

I travel with a buddy and we split the the hotel cost. We look for budget motels during our lunch stop. We grocery shop before hitting our hotel and we each have large camel backs that we fill with ice and water. Saves a lot of cash.

Somewhere a timeshare rep howled when you shared the one trick those guys hate "Don't tell them not to buy the timeshare!!!" LOL. Excellent advice. I just picked up a 2024 GS Adventure (Triple Black) in mid-April, and I am looking forward to doing much more bike travelling.

Is canned food the most budget food? I don't travel often, and when I have I eat out. I wonder if packing a day or two worth of canned food would be too heavy.

    • @FTAAdventures
      @FTAAdventures  6 місяців тому +1

I’ve done that. I usually go for things that just need water to cook, like pasta because it’s light. But cans work too, if it’s a day or two at a time.

I would suggest as well that when you do have to spend the night in a hotel, as the need arises, select a joint that offers a free breakfast. Knocking that one meal off the hit list, and grabbing a bagel or a banana on the way out for later can soften the blow of the expense of the hotel room.
I always locate the hotel laundry (not the coin-op, the pro version) and ask them if I can nab a towel, they always have loads of clean towels that are just shy of qualifying for putting back in the rooms, and I use the towel to wipe overnight moisture from the bike, clean bugs off the screen, et cetera. I have even borrowed a garden hose and washed road grime off the bike while getting ready for the ride away from the hotel, they seem to get a kick out of it.

I use a 2 quart canteen & my camel pack. Never pay for water. Men's room at any fast food or gas stations. Dehydrated foods work great.
