🏍 WHO IS TIM COLLINS OF FTA ADVENTURES? (FORMERLY FORTY TIMES AROUND)
A lifelong adventure enthusiast and a long time motorcycle traveler, I have spent the last few years honing my craft as a motorcycle adventure specialist.
Motorcycle travel and camping have become my largest passions in life. I have a meticulous nature that helps me analyze gear, technique and tactics in a way that is highly beneficial to anyone looking to embark on a motorcycle venture of any scope.
I agree about the highway. I’m shocked how many UA-camrs pound hundreds of miles on the highways. The best part about traveling is going through the middle of nowhere.
I agree!
@@FTAAdventuresTim, do you have a video about route planning to stay off highways?
Merry Christmas Tim. Thank you for all you do for the rider community.
Thanks, you too!
Excellent tips Tim! I use to eat a large English Breakfast so I would be too full to eat lunch and that would fuel me until dinner. I prebought snack bars in cheap shops and took them in a snack bag on my tours with bottles of water etc... I also made sure I could top up my water bottles in the hotel for free too. One things I would recommend is having an emergency fund of £500 saved up just in case anything happens on the tour and you need the money. Plus, its always handy to have in the bank after you come home and did not need it.
Love your videos! Merry Christmas!
Great tips! Having access to emergency money is a good one!
One tip i have is to use the cycle filter rather than car symbol aswell as avoid tolls n highways, on google directions for discovering local roads on a journey when time is not a limiting factor.
Another nice thing about some lower cost motels is the ability to park right in front of the door. Very convenient.
Definitely! I agree
Tim, I enjoyed the video. Makes sense to cut cost, when and where you can. Especially with the cost of travel. RIDE SAFE OUT THERE!
Thanks you too!
I definitely like the backroads as well. You'll save money since the fuel economy goes up. I ride an electric motorcycle so it makes a huge difference in efficiency. Also, try budget grocery stores like Aldi or Lidl. They have fresh foods in addition to packaged foods.
Thanks Tim
Great advice
Merry Christmas brother ❤️💯
Same to you!
Happy Christmas Tim. Lots of love and best wishes from ENGLAND .UK. ✝️🎄🎅🍾🇬🇧👍
Same to you!
Tim, thanks for the Google Maps tip. I’ve always been wondering how can I do back roads I didn’t know they had the option to avoid highways or avoid toll roads, so thank you.
Glad to help!
Awesome tips in parts 1 and 2 to this video Tim. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you Tim. You are looking well bro and glad to see it!
Thank you!
Great tips Tim. Happy Holidays and safe travels!
Thank you! Happy holidays!
Hey Tim, thanks for the good advice. Merry Christmas and happy new year
Same to you!
Merry Christmas FTA those are great tips really !!
Merry Christmas!
Happy Holidays Tim !! #6 - Be cheap like Tim !! Just got me some new Mosko riding gear and luggage 🔥 I dig it 🏁🏍🏁
Happy holidays! Congrats on the new gear!
Merry Christmas Tim!
Same to you!
Have a great Christmas, Tim!
Thanks you too!
Merry Christmas Tim. Love your cookbook for the bike trips. Take care!
Thanks you too!
I'd add slow down & save fuel. Make your own coffee. Carry snacks ( nuts-jerky-granola bars) instead of mini marts. Carry water & liquid IV packs. Splurge only on one meal a day. Thanks, Tim.
Thanks for the tips!
Merry Christmas Tim. Great tips. I'm heading home to Gold Beach, Or in a few days. Always a spot open for you there. Be safe and enjoy the ride.
Thank you and Merry Christmas to you too!
Really agree about the highway. The expressways have all the charm of putting the bike on the center-stand in the garage and revving the engine. Thanks for the other good tips.
That’s a good way of putting it!
Always glad to see your videos. Stay safe brother. God bless
Thanks, you too!
Thanks
Happy Holidays Tim. From CT, (libland) U.S.A.
Happy holidays!
Joining the hotel reward programs, earning points and getting the free room. Focus on just a couple programs. I use Choice (aggressive free rooms but quality of hotels is streaky), Holiday Inn Express (excellent free hot breakfast) and Hilton (Hampton Inn excellent free breakfast). Plus a lot of these places let bikes park in front for security
Great point! I always try to park by the entrance too, unless I’m parking right outside my room
@@FTAAdventures yup only one time I had a hotel get prissy about in front. Love parking outside my room esp. if I get points!
Many greetings to the USA, Michael from Germany wishes you a merry Christmas!
In most countries in Central Europe you still pay for a lot of things with cash. In Northern Europe it is already very common to pay by credit card. There aren't any motels like in the USA, but you can stay cheaply in guesthouses.
Merry Christmas Michael! That’s good to know about Europe, I’m hoping to get there this summer.
Great tips. CC rewards or other benefits from AAA or the AMA also provide some savings. great tips on buying food at a local produce stores and being aware of how your money is being spent. I also enjoy supporting the local independent shops. Cheers 🏍️🙌
So true! Thanks
Great tips Tim!
The credit card is a huge tip for people, especially out of country.
Just be sure to let the cc. company know your going.
Great tip!
Ok 👏🎉👍
Found a really nice hotel 45 miles from Bryce Canyon Utah for $35 per night in November. It was nice. Clean modern and a queen bed.
Wow that’s a great find!
A+ thanks for the share! Hey do you ever consider riding the BDRs?
I have ridden a few of them, they’re great!
With Dollar General they are a little more rare, but they are building Dollar General Markets. They carry some produce and "fresh" meat.
That’s awesome I haven’t seen one of those yet, I’ll keep an eye out.
BUDGET! And save up for trips.
A water filter was be helpful and save cost when camping and traveling in countries that don't have safe tap water.
Hotel/motel costs are unreal in the usa....off the charts. No wonder many families can't enjoy traveling unless camping.
I live in florida but am moto traveling south america for a couple of years.
My average hotel/private room hostal cost here averages under $10usd per night
Keep it going...good stuff
Wow that’s great, our prices here are crazy. Safe travels!
100% agree to avoid the highways and cities.
There are so many paved back roads that will lead to so many fantastic discoveries.
I also prefer eating from a grocery store and then eating near by on some grass or a park bench,...as the food is healthier, less $$ and often fresh with varieties.
Well said!
When budgeting don’t forget to add into your budget the funds you won’t be spending at home. Like groceries, gas for commuting etc. Over a week or longer it’s a fair amount. Say you have $500 saved for your trip. Then add the gas and food money you won’t need at home. As mentioned a stove , small cook set and a water filter can save a lot of money for a small investment.
Excellent point! Thanks
I think some hostels have single rooms.. but they are so much cheaper outside the states? Maybe try next time you go to Mexico? .. true about dollar stores lol cheap option
I’ll try that next time I’m out of the US
What about KOA? it only cost about $33.00 a year for membership...
That’s a great tip!
