Mick Mars did not come up with the bands name. They were actually named Christmas until someone said they looked like a "motley crew". That's where the name came from.
By far, Mick is the most talented and most consistent member of this band. The rest of the band are just tools, and the nerve of Vince Neil to question anyone’s ability on tour is astounding.
Exactly what I was thinking.hes got a lot of nerve to criticize his ability when it's literally embarrassing to hear Vince sing and the same way I cringe when I listened to David Lee Roth.
A friend of mine did security and lighting stuff for a Brett Michael’s/Crūe tour years ago and he saw how the Crūe staged their show on tour. He told us the same stories on all of the overdubbed bass and drum tracks. And he said Mick was the only one playing his own parts. No backing tracks. I’m so glad I saw the Crūe back in their hay days.
5%? What an insult. This man is owed all the glory honor and respect he so rightfully deserves. MC would never HAVE BEEN MC w/o MM. He was, and is, a valuable and crucial member of the crue, a true original - To spit in his face like that is MORE than insulting. I don't blame Mick one bit. I do wonder what Nikki Sixx is going to do about his Mick Mars tattoo tho...
Mick has never been one to falsify anything, ever. This, again, is another power move by Nikki of whom has been the principle driving/creative force behind the band since its inception. Mick has always been stepped over since the beginning. I believe him wholeheartedly because the other members see him as feeble, will put up the least resistance towards anything, and won’t argue. Strong silent people like this always get pushed outside by those in a better position than you. Come on Nikki, leave the brother alone, he put in his time, a founding member, give him his due. Don’t be another KISS.
Nikki Sixx has ran that band since day 1 and runs it today. What he says goes and the rest fall in line. Tommy and Vince love being Rockstars and celebrities and having a lot of money so they play ball to whatever Nikki says. Even though he writes all the lyrics and the music Nikki is the only non vocal contributing bass player to run a band like a Dictator. Most bands the Bass player is the quiet dude in the background. Even the one comparable one Gene Simmons at least contributes some vocals and Paul Stanley also has a huge say in what goes on in Kiss. Nikki even at the height of drug addiction kept a tight leash on the band and for better or worse that's probably why they have sold 100 million records and selling out show 40 years later. Without his drive and direction and creativity that band ends up going nowhere sad but unfortunately true.

My one experience seeing Motley Crue live was on the farewell tour in summer 2014. I focused most of my attention on Mick, because I'm a (crappy) guitar player and wanted to see how he'd do, given his health situation. Lemme tell you, I have seldom had my guitar expectations exceeded the way they were that night. Dude played his a** off, didn't flub anything that I noticed, and was faster, more fiery and all-around more committed than any studio track I've heard from him. In fact, he was so lit up that it was the highlight of the entire performance, even though he wasn't able to move around or put on a visual show. Nikki Sixx is full of it.
He was such a great guitar player. I saw them so so many times from 85-86ish up until last year. but I can confidently say that it wasn’t all there on the stadium tour and I was a tad disappointed. not too say that after so so many years he shouldn’t be allowed to stop touring with all his health stuff going on but still it wasn’t what it was or even close but obviously that’s expected. the home sweet home solo is one of my favorite solo’s ever but on the stadium tour at least at the show I was at.
@@bro-bh5kj No one says that about Nikki! Nikki can barely play the bass and before Motley Crue he couldn't even tell the difference from a bass to a Les Paul guitar! Yeah "Nikki" aka FRANK is so talented! Hahaha more like a rockstar wannabe who got lucky despite being a talentless loser
I've been a fan since 1981 and I've never once heard anyone say Nikki Sixx is talented. If anything, people have always stated what a supreme douche he is.
Mick Mars is the only truly talented musician in the band. Dude could barely move and still shredded and played his ass off. He deserves so much better then the rest of Crue is giving him. I believe Mick completely in this.
thank you for this. yep, Mick is not only a fantastic musician, he's a truly genuine person. nobody can touch his chops. he created some outrageously powerful, cool riffs and solos without resorting to fretboard gymnastics.

He was so amazing last year, I am thankful I got to see him one last time. Everyone else was trying to act like they were still in their heyday, Mick just stood there shredding the guitar and dazzling.
I’ve always thought it was a killer addition to the flow and sound of the song, not just a bunch of blistering fast show off notes. It’s an epic solo because of what it adds
They’re lucky they had Mick for as long as they did. He’s the only one I can stand. I’d imagine dealing with a bunch of perennial adolescents while suffering debilitating daily pain wouldn’t have been easy. Hats off Mick… time to take care of yourself now.

However Nikki Sixx wrote every song Motley Crue ever made and was the driving force behind the band both creative wise and business wise. Without his direction the band never would have gotten off the ground and certainly wouldn't be selling tickets and relevant in 2023 he makes all the decisions for the band for better or worse

Its so sad that these 4 massive egos cannot get along. without one another...none would have succeeded to the level they are. i Hope Mick continues to receive his 25%. Peace Jimbo
I remember being a huge Motley Crue fan in my late teens/early 20’s. I remember their critics called them posers. Their VH-1 episode quotes producer Roy Thomas Baker complaint to the label that “the bass player can’t play”. Then in recent years it has been revealed that Nikki Sixx could not read or write music or understand keys when he auditioned for and was turned down by Quiet Riot. All this information makes me believe that those old accusations about Sixx not being able to play are true.
I refuse to believe that "a significant portion of Vince Niel's vocals were pre-recorded." I mean, if you're going to go through the trouble, at least make him sound passably decent. Either way, the drama is never ending for this band.
I get it, when the internet ridicules a member of your band for years because they can't perform any longer, it can be damaging to the bottom line. The only logical move was to fire... wait a minute... MICK?!?!
It’s really crazy that the band he co-founded wanted to take he’s entire percentage of his share as a member of Motley Crue and completely cut him off. That says a lot about the band.
Mick is the sound that drives Motley, each member brought something to the mix, but Mick was the engine of the music. Tommy followed Mick's guitar instead of Nikki's bass, because he couldn't play bass when the group formed. Nikki has always been a great song writer, that was his huge contribution to the success of the band for decades.
They've been miming to prerecorded tracks for years. The bassist in a band I was part of in the early 2000's was a huge MC fan and went to see them in Nashville sometime around 04 or 05. He came back pissed talking about how Mick was the only one who actually played his instrument. I didn't witness it, but the fact that a guy who bought a Nikki Sixx signature bass said it lends to it's credibility in my opinion.
It's interesting because Mick Mars is the steadiest most consistent member of the band (both musically and from a personality standpoint). You never know what to expect from the other three both on and off stage. For every great band, there is seemingly always one member that provides the glue. For example, in Van Halen you had Michael Anthony. In Toto, you had David Paich. In Genesis, you had Mike Rutherford. In Journey, you had Jonathan Cain. Mick Mars was the glue for Motley Crue.
i saw them like 10 years ago in Charlotte, & even then Mars was the only one fully performing. He had an acoustic solo that was awesome. Though, i do love John 5, & think he's a perfect fit lol
Wow this is insane, I love Mick and I am definitely on his side. His riffs made MC, he is the most talented musician in that band, I have no idea where the other guys are coming from. Hope he wins
Mick wrote every riff that made us love this band to begin with. There would be no Motley Crue without his guitar riffs. There’s no chance Nikki could’ve written any of those songs without Mick. This is just so sad
Sixx couldn’t have developed any of his song ideas without Mars evolving them and rounding them up on a guitar. Mars is the musician of the two and was the glue of that band. This whole pre-recorded tape thing is a real embarrassment, for any true rock band, especially considering the price of concert tickets these days. I say Boycott Crue 🚫
I read this article and it's crap. Mick is a legend,he helped form this band and to treat him like this when the man is doing what he loved when nobody else in the band is? Why are we even paying these prices of they're not even playing live?? I stand with Mick on this. I hope he wins. The man deserves respect.
Exactly: why are fans going to the shows & supporting them when it’s essentially old guy karaoke? WHY does Nikki even need prerecorded bass tracks? 😂 Les Claypool he is not.
It iz very common to have the creative individual fleeced to no end. Usually a whole process involving multiple individuals carries through. Exploitation and conspiracy are an integral part of the amerikan way.

I've been in the "biz" since the mid 1970's. Never made it big obviously but I know how treacherous things can get among band members. I remember back in the early 80's an industry executive saying most bands start infighting and break up as soon as real money [contracts] is involved. Imagine what goes on in the bands that do stay together and become big stars. And especially in bands where each member is individually famous and has their own large following, large ego....and lawyers. An example of what goes on with a band. Let an entire band be involved in mixing tracks with no outside referee/ear. After a few minutes every fader is on 10 with each member claiming they can't hear their part. Now extrapolate that to a career.
Did you ever see the episode of LA Ink when Nikki got a portrait tattoo of Mick? Mick didn't know and Nikki surprised him with it on the show. Nikki praised him up and down. Tommy Lee wasn’t there with everybody else because they said he drank a huge bottle of Jack Daniels and was hurling in the bathroom. Most of the people backstage were flocking around Nikki and Vince. Mick was sitting on a couch alone. I was just standing awkwardly not far from it. He points at me and motions for me to sit down if I wanted to. So I thought hell yeah I’ll sit on the couch with ya. He was so chill and nice.He noticed we smoked the same brand ( Marlboro light100’s) of cigarettes and offered me one and I took it. He lit it for me. Tommy and Vince are just the worst. Mick is the only one that seems like a real, down to Earth guy with humility and love for music. I hope that he wins this lawsuit and gets everything that he's owed.
Nikki Sixx is Motlely Crue since he wrote all of the early songs, but go on.
Mick Mars did not come up with the bands name. They were actually named Christmas until someone said they looked like a "motley crew". That's where the name came from.
@@DropDMurphy I see where you're coming from, but Mick is the one who decided to utilize that phrase and turn it into the band name.
By far, Mick is the most talented and most consistent member of this band. The rest of the band are just tools, and the nerve of Vince Neil to question anyone’s ability on tour is astounding.
I'd disagree. Tommy is probably the best musician. Mick is average but he has a certain vibe that people like
That's for sure
Exactly what I was thinking.hes got a lot of nerve to criticize his ability when it's literally embarrassing to hear Vince sing and the same way I cringe when I listened to David Lee Roth.
Exactly!! a cat getting its neck stepped on sounds better than Vince.
@@r613-v7y Tommy looks like hes on meth every time you see him on tv for the past 10 years
A friend of mine did security and lighting stuff for a Brett Michael’s/Crūe tour years ago and he saw how the Crūe staged their show on tour.
Mick Mars was the sound of Motley Crue. Not many bands are listened to for their bass player or drummer. Guitars make a rock band.

Well said. Don't be a Gene

My experience was the same in 2014. Mick killed it. He stole the show from the other 3.

He was such a great guitar player. could you imagine pre-recording your vocals and STILL sounding like Vince Neil?

Wow Nikki Sixx is delusional. Mick never had a bad show. Can't say the same for Vince 🤣
Facts!
This is what happens when bands continue past their expire date.

Now extrapolate that to a career.

mick started the band as bob deal in motley crew and deal was the only original member... i was around the strip and he started it in 1978 and there is a flier if i can find it with all different members...
Mick ,unfortunately, is horribly underrated.
He plays loud , rude and aggressive just the way Rock should be played. On the flip side, Mick is a down to earth humble gentleman that deserves utmost respect as a musician, guitarist , and human being.
“ Loud, rude and aggressive “ was how Mick described himself in a newspaper ad that got him in to Motley Crue.
You go Mick!
It looks like Carmine Appice is in the clear.
I have to agree with Mick on the band faking it. I just saw Motley Crue with John 5 and there was a point, during the show when Tommy's GoPro camera was on him, and I witnessed him stop playing drums, but the drums kept going!
