Drawers are less secret because the whole front would pull forward. So there would be a tiny gap when closed instead of a truly glued front piece. Less secret. Easier to access. Tradeoffs
@@ecospider5 You could use the same magnets on the back of the drawer face to hold it in and hide the gaps. Also with the slides hidden, you could do identical bits on the top ones as well, and you could have no hinges or holes showing. Since the drawer is pretty thin, you could just grab the whole face to pull it open.
@@SeanBlader I don't think ecospider5 was talking about the little rare earth magnets that keep the door shut. Rather, the "candy magnet" that allows the candy to be stuck up under the top, so that if someone opens the secret compartment, they don't see the "candy". Look at the center section at 23:38
I really love the secret compartments. My only thought is, if you’re using the shelving for any kind of storage, it might be difficult to pull them down. I’d love to see your take on concealed drawers, that way you don’t have to move storage out if the way for the compartments to open.

I always love how your projects turn out. I can only hope to achieve half of your talent before I die. Please keep up the good work, you're an inspiration to so many of us...
I love the idea for valuables that ppl out side the house won't know about but as for lil man and his friends they'll just watch this video and go kool. As for as entertaining as your videos are I have no worries that you teach them safety in all things. And I'm sure lil man has learned respect for humanity with the way I see you help others. Great project.
Ingenious. Add some more lights to the upper shelves as 'justification' for them being so thick. I have often thought that the kick-space would have some potential for unexpected storage too.
I built a little back trunk shelf thing for my camping/road trips in my Prius. There was a hidden compartment that you could only see if you put the back seat down. I did this to hide my laptop and more expensive electronics in. I figured that someone might try and break into my car at some point and most camping gear i could replace. But laptops and other devices I didnt want swiped. Its a handy thing to have on weekend trips.
it'd take the Mrs. approximately 7.5 minutes to stuff the bottom shelves with books, clothes, decorative pinecones, a hydraulic press, 3 orphan raccoons and a Boeing 747's landing gear (from under it's left wing) making absolutely sure no uninvited cereal killers would get the well deserved high blood sugar dose on time XD
@@JamesWelbesSenph42 means that the space *under* the secret door would be filled up. So when you go to access the secret stash, you'd have to get all the crap off the shelf below. If it's a bunch of folded shirts, you scoop them off onto the floor and open the secret door. But if it's a decorative item, you don't want to risk it crashing on the floor and making noise or breaking (glass shards everywhere) or landing on your foot. Basically, the lowest "shelf cavity" (that is the one under the shelf with the secret storage) is effectively unusable. Or at least, needs to be minimally used.
Its a really cool project. I like the comment someone said about making it a drawer to make the bottom functional as well. I also would have given the top shelf a bottom so that if for some reason someone looked under the shelves they really do look the same and a hidden lock would be better also so that it really is a hidden drawer. All that said this is still very awesome and I love the way you put your videos together!!!
if you did that and wanted to hide the hinge I think you could also add an extra piece of wood to the bottom and instead of having the box in the back you could cut it to an angle to let that extra long bottom pice have a place to hinge. the only issue I see with the adding a base to the top would be that then you wouldn't be able to adjust the height of the shelf.
@elijahcherweznik3505 I agree about the ability to move the top shelf... I would probably design it knowing where i wanted the shelves and have both be fixed.
I'm a woodworking newb making my first nightstand this weekend and will add this for my, uh, snacks. I'll go a little more basic for now but I'm stoked to add this. Thanks for the vid!
I can use secret storage over the top of the cabinets, as well as the ones that go underneath the bottom cabinets replacing the dead space behind the toe kick.
If the Forman has UA-cam and is a fan of his employee, then he already knows where the hidden candy is. Or, if his friends watch, they may tell him. I hope the candy is Pez. I just love Pez. Those cartoon head dispensers are fun.
A clever idea well executed and presented. All the best to you and yours during the holiday season and here’s hoping 2024 will be healthy and prosperous 🌞
It’s funny, I just redid my pantry over the holidays, and these lights were on sale with Amazon, they’re outstanding! Love the hidden drawers man! Keep up the great work, and nice “candy”, especially the magnetic one!
There is a glue designed for laminated board. It looks like a watery pva. It makes a really strong join, try and remove a piece, once set, and half the laminate will come up with it.
Love this idea. Especially the candy magnet. Sometimes you need candy in a hurry. Guessing you could also install a biometric lock so you don’t have to fumble with a key in the middle of the night to get your midnight snack.
Clever concealed storage for valuables. Only drawback I can see is that if you need to get to your candy in the dark in the middle of the night, you have to remember where you put the key. And then, of course, the light comes on in the shelf drawer.
Great video and a very great idea I’ve been looking for a way to hide my candy in my headboard of my bed doing something like this thanks for some inspiration and great ideas. Merry Christmas Jason to you and your family and a Happy New Year 🎈🎊🎆
Please look into proper "candy" storage. At the end of the day this is a wooden with a simple off the shelf lock. Any professional "candy" thief would find this in moments and simply hit the box with a hammer and now your "candy" is on the black market. Please, be a responsible candy owner and keep your candy out of the hands of people who shouldn't have it.
Safety first, lol I see you're using the table saw with the saw wearing the safety glasses, on top of the fence...too funny. Love your videos and you're a wealth of information. You're so talented and explain things clearly and precisely. That helps so much for us dummies out here. Thanks for all you do, you're one of my favorites.
Very cool. I have those lights along the baseboard in my hallway and stairs, so people and dogs can get down the hall and downstairs at night. No need to turn on the lights that will wake me.
I subscribed cause his beard is semi-par, his flannels are wife-chosen and his skills are sick. More like Flannel Locust.....Very creative guy, on all your videos. I enjoy them. Your slip on boots are weak.
I think that you spell candy like I do - gun !!!!!!!!! I have some locks like yours and I used my biscuit joiner to cut the slot. I like your "candy" and I have several 9mm pieces also. I really like the lights.

Thanks for this video, Jason. Properly hiding candy is most certainly important!
Awesome video!!!! Proper candy storage is very important and your idea is perfect!!! Love your content! You educate and inspire me all the time.
Nice project, I would however make the front slide out like a drawer, that way the bottom shelf can be used like normal.
A tug on the face would reveal the hidden drawer.

It would also be harder to use the magnetic trick to hold your candy

Use playing cards to create a consistent gap, and add the same gap EVERYWHERE. If they all look the same, nothing looks out of place. 😉👍🏼

Amazing Craftsmanship!
I love the design and build of this project.
Well done!
REMASTERED INTROOOOOOO, finally, leeetsssssssssss goooooooooo
one of the best ideas ive seen for how this world is getting and our needs this is great
Great project! Those lights are a nice addition. I have the larger ones underneath my kitchen cabinets.
Wonderfully entertaining.
Love your craft and humour. Learning should always be fun. 😁
I've used those exact lights underneath a set of cabinets to illuminate the counter, and I love them.
Absolutely amazing. So very clever job well done!! Thanks for the video.

Very Cool!!! The lights are a nice touch..
Enjoy your Holiday Season….🎄🍻

My favorite video so far! Thank you
I don't have much of a sweet tooth but I still love how creative this project is.
Bourbon Moth going the route of early Mathew Peech is the real Christmas surprise here. ❤❤❤
Merry Christmas, folks! 🎄
Merry Christmas to you too
As a fellow candy enthusiast, I find this perked very interesting!
I love your techniques. And your explanation.
Nice work. Always keep you and your family safe.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a Blessed New Year 🛷🙏⛄️❤️🦌🫎🎁🎄❄️🎅🤶
I had no idea there was a secret candy cabinet in that beautiful cabinet. I love cabinets and candy.

Hi 👋 great job 👏, well done, 👍 . Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Phil from the moulin,
Fantastic video my man! I can't wait to build some cabinets now
just what i needed

Veeeeeeeery smart Jason. Now you are my favorite woodworker. Congratulations
Candy gets serious @"Certain times" but is always...sweet! Very nice work Jason.
This is very nice and I think I can do this. Thank you for the idea.
Awesome . Happy Holidays to you and your family .
Clever❤ very well thought out!!! Doingbthe same with my kitchen upper cabinets and my firepla mantle
Love this idea. Especially the candy magnet. Sometimes you need candy in a hurry. Guessing you could also install a biometric lock so you don’t have to fumble with a key in the middle of the night to get your midnight snack.

Very cool Jason. Love it!
Nice!
Lol love the spooky music at the beginning in the background.
Suspenseful.
You can’t put anything on the bottom shelves because the secret shelves will hit but the idea is cool. Good job.
If you have a pile of hoodies on the shelf, you could open the compartment... or knock the hoodies on the floor if you were in a hurry.
Very cool. I want to do re-do our closet one day. Maybe this will work for me.
"Woodly bounds", - carpentry poetry...❤
Candy magnets. Genius. Also keeps some of the weight off the the trap door magnets.
Ooh! I love candy, especially the kind you hide in secret compartments! Yummy!! 😂
I like your brand of “Candy”. Great choice.
I love trick drawers and secret compartments.
That really cool. Nice job brother.
Loved it!! I hope you and yours have a blessed & Merry Christmas!! PS-I can't wait to see the Airstream!!
This is great. So clean!

Great video. Always important to HIDE the CANDY..... You Rock my friend. Thank you for another great video. Happy Holidays..
Very nice build. The only problem I see is bottom shelf needs to be pretty much empty in order to open the hidden candy storage.
All that talk about candy really satisfied my sweet tooth. Really nice build. Wish I could "like" more than once.
Great job, nice idea. Merry Christmas
As a diabetic I appreciate your concealing your candy from others.
Nice work! Very cool candy storage!
They turned out really great.

excellent video Jason - - had a lot of my candy stolen a year ago - - wishing I had these shelves
Woodworker and hidden candy maker. Ingenuity
Pretty excellent. Glad you're as concerned about keeping your candy safe as I am. It's mine.
Merry Christmas 🎊🎄🎁
The candy man can cause he mixes it with love and makes world taste goooooood. 🤣👌
Love the idea, your “secret” is safe with me and all 100000+ of your viewers😂
Great video. How about cutting 4 shelf pins and gluing them to the bottom of each shelf so it looks like the shelves are held up by them???
always awesome videos. You crack me up. Have a happy new year.
Well done those are some nice builds
Thanks for the build and the candy security. Ho Ho Ho…😅
GREAT IDEA!!! What kind of magnet did you use to secure the candy out of sight inside hidden shelf?
I love the way you got the "candy" to stick to the upper magnets.
Now you need one for full sized fishing rods, say in the kitchen counter and bed rail
Best opening ever!
thanks for being a responsible adult

Cool idea and function... it would never work in my closet because the storage space would be packed full...😂😂😂
Love this build idea

This guy likes woodworking, boats, whisky, and ...candy. Ill tell you what, i may have a crush.
Outstanding!!
