This kind of reminded me of doing the Reviewing EVERY Death Album video. Cause like, every album is great. Even the 'worst' or least favourite album is still great.

TDEP was actually the first "core" band I listened. Ironically the song was One of Us Is the Killer (the most acessible one, I guess) and I remembered of loving it the first time. After that, I went more into metal music and more into their songs and yeah, awesome band with a awesome discography as you said. Great video as always dude, another "Reviewing Every Album" you could made is "Reviewing Every Converge Album", another master band of metalcore

One obviously loves the fact that Dillinger were technical, deep, intellectual, etc. But honestly if I had to describe them in a word it would be “cool”. They were just 100% badass from start to finish of their career. Not a single cringy moment from their discography, not one failed experiment. Flawless, stylish execution at all times. But I think a big part of the coolness also comes from their super simple and nondescript aesthetic, their unpretentious modest soft-spokeness, letting their powers speak for them (except when they had psychotic breaks with reality where they literally threw shit at people). They exuded an aura of extreme discipline, drive, self-mastery, seriousness, never arrogant or rock-starish for a moment. Focus, commitment, sheer-will, like John Wick pretty much

The Dillinger Escape Plan is one of the greatest metalcore bands of all time and are pioneers of the mathcore style of metalcore. They have a very consistent discography but for the sake of a ranking here would be mine, though every album is very good:
    6. One of Us Is the Killer
    5. Calculating Infinity
    4. Dissociation
    3. Ire Works
    2. Option Paralysis
    1. Miss Machine

My favorite is absolutely Calculating Infinity. I think part of it is that I really really like Dmitri's vocals and the damn drumming. I love that psychotic, frenzied writing. My favorite track by then is either Sugar Coated Sour or Clip the Apex.

One of Us Is The Killer is for sure my favorite TDEP album, but like you said, they literally don't have a bad album at all. A strong case could definitely be made for using these guys as the go-to example of the most consistent discography you could ever hope to have as a band. Straight up legends that I will never get tired of listening to. It's wild to think how big they actually got considering the fact that like 90%-95% of their material isn't exactly accessible to the average listener.

Daughters is sick. I was in a grindcore / math core band in high school and it was essentially just us trying to sound like a cross between them, TDEP and The Locust. Lol
The first time I heard Daughters was when they played a show with The Black Dahlia Murder and The Bled and I was really turned off initially because Alexis kept spitting on everyone, grabbing his crotch and doing his little wiggly fingers. They ended up becoming a favorite for sure 😂

@@PanasonicTooth I’ve only listened to Under the Running Boards and Calculating Infinity so far. I’ve been into extreme metal for years now but honestly these guys are probably the most intense and chaotic band I’ve ever heard. Definitely not music to listen to while you’re trying to do something, I feel like I would just start smashing stuff! I can see how it could sound like complete random noise to some people…
But as stressful as it is to listen to, I can also hear it’s meticulously crafted and it keeps my interest throughout. I already have a lot of respect for them as musicians and songwriters and definitely going to listen to the rest of their albums!
      Cheers 🤘🤘

    3.option paralysis(10/10)
    4.Miss Machine(10/10)

    Calculating Infinity - 4
    Irony Is A Dead Scene - 4.5
    Miss Machine - 4.5
    Ire Works - 4
    Option Paralysis - 5
One Of Us Is The Killer - 5
    Dissociation - 4
All of their albums are truly great. No matter which is put on, I will jam to it. Sometimes, the 5's move to 4.5's, and the 4's to 4.5's, but this is my overall feel. And sometimes Miss Machine and One Of Us Is The Killer switch scores.
I prefer listening to them in this order:
    1) Option Paralysis
    2) One Of Us Is The Killer
    3) Miss Machine
    4) Irony Is A Dead Scene
    5) Dissociation
    6) Ire Works
    7) Calculating Infinity
I think the 5), 6) and 7) have a good bit of filler and less strong songs. Nonetheless; great. Calculating Infinity really set off this genre, and Dillinger has only topped themselves in every way afterwards. Likewise, what a great final.
As plenty of viewers have mentioned, please do review all of Converge's albums. Personally, I slightly prefer Dillinger, but they are equally as good.

  • @BradCynical

The Dillinger Escape Plan were incredible band, I think they are one of few true innovators in music scene. It was obnoxious, loud, aggressive and yet somehow catchy and fun to listen to, which is something that's hard to mix well.
Just thinking about it, I can't even rank their albums properly. If I were to rank them, it would be like:
    6. *Calculating Infinity*
    5. *Dissociation*
    3. shared by both *Miss Machine* and *Option Paralysis*
    1. shared again by both *Ire Works* and *One of Us Is the Killer*

Unfortunately i felt the same way about "Dissociation". Still a very good album but for as groundbreaking a band as they were there just wasn't much here i hadnt heard before. If i was unfamiliar with DEP and thrn heard the album it would be fresh and awesome, but you hit the nail on yhe head with the fact by this time a formula had been established and they weren't really blowing my mind with anything new.

Easily my favourite artist, although they might've been tied with Nine Inch Nails had Trent stopped the project after 'With Teeth'.
Dissociation was far too compressed for Dillinger's typically chaotic, snarly sound. It lacks bite. Compare the tracks with anything from Miss Machine or One Of Us....
    Anyway, for what its worth;

    5. Option Paralysis

TDEP is the Greatest Mathcore band of all time. Honestly not gonna even make a tier list for this band since everything would be B tier or above lol. So I’ll just rank em instead
7 Calculating Infinity- (Its a monumental Debut album for sure. I really like it but have never loved this album. Not the biggest fan of Dimitri’s vocals much at all. His vocals get tiring pretty fast for me. Dillinger definitely laid the Groundwork on this album but they improve upon their sound SOOO much. Very impressive album nonetheless)
6 Irony is a Dead Scene (I really think that Mike Patton really taught TDEP the importance of Experimentation, it’s a good ep)
5 One of us is the Killer (It’s Option Paralysis but for some reason I don’t quite enjoy as much. Great album though still)
4 Dissociation (This was a Great album to end their career on imo. I can understand your Critiques though)
3 Miss Machine (This is when imo The Dillinger Escape Plan truly become AMAZING, Greg Puciato was one of the best possible Vocalist choices Ben Weinman and the boys could have chosen since Patton left)
2 Option Paralysis (This is definitely imo possibly their most interesting album. I like how chaotic Greg goes on this album, Masterpiece. Was beyond hard to choose between this or Ire Works as my favorite)
1 Ire Works (Couldn’t agree with you more with this Masterpiece🐐)

Mathcore to me is just like they set someone loose who has adhd on the instruments, they have riffs here and there that I like, but overall the music lacks abit of the subtlety with riff changes, which sometimes the subtle things can be the most effective, yes Mathcore bands are insanely technical and skilled at techniques but it's almost like the songwriting isn't honed in on that same level, I partly get that's what they go for, atleast it makes them sound individual, but when you go for one riff to another that is nothing alike and just completely different it kind of sounds abit forced. I actually think Greg is a great vocalist though I can appreciate what he does more in killer be killed. Having said all this though I still plan on hearing more from them and staying open minded as I do like some prog.

    • @l3m0nhernandez77

I mean, that's basically the point of the entire genre. Yes it sometimes might come off as pretentious or too complex just for the sake of it, but it's definitely a really interesting sound, and when it's done right, it sounds great, pretty much the same with prog
