I love elephant's, very very much, I'd love to see you carve one but then I'd want it 😂. So, to me it doesn't matter what you carve, cause I'll watch every video in awe and no matter what it is, will always be blown away.
Snail mummy. That was wonderful. I learned a lot. I have just started trying to sell my work, I have been making things for presents and people have said I should sell them, but didn't know how to figure my pricing. Thank you.
Dear Artist, I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt appreciation for your remarkable artwork. Your talent not only inspires me as an artist but also motivates me to enhance my woodworking skills. As someone who works with various mediums, I find immense joy in watching your videos. Each time I view them, I am greeted with a smile and a renewed sense of inspiration. It is truly a wonderful gift that artists possess-the ability to inspire others. Please continue your incredible work, as it is genuinely appreciated. Warm regards from the Netherlands!💜🐌🐚💯
Amazin video, as always. Hi I'm Arthur, from France, baseball player and woodwork apprentice for a year now. I really like your work, your content and the way you explain things. I'm passionate in woodworking and watching you doing amazing things confort me in my choice to make sculptures or furnitures etc.... Thank you again for the videos and keep doing what you do
I really appreciate your take on the financial side of a career in art. I do a ton of textile stuff (knit/crochet/etc) for fun, but have never turned it into a business because pretty much no one wants to pay for 10 hours of labor to knit a hat when you can just buy a machine-knit one. On the other hand, a lot of people I know with sewing businesses (custom dance/skating/etc costumes) say to charge at least minimum wage for your when starting out, and increase from there.
An artist’s value(amount someone is willing to pay) is spot on to how you’ve described. Adding a % for wear and tear on your tools is a great tip. Love the pattern created for the snail and second body a great decision. It’s a shame you couldn’t keep that first body for the lion with wings….
Blake, your artwork never ceases to amaze me. From the places you find inspiration to the finished product *chef's kiss* perfection... I agree that your slug mummy looks much better without the glitter, although I can see how some might have found that ascetically pleasing as well, it didn't have the desired "snotty" look to it that I think you were trying to achieve, and I think it looks better as the finally result... Great work as always
I agree with you the, clear Slug looks a lot better than the glitter Slug. The mosaic shell turned out looking real cool, Charlie would be proud to wear it (as soon as you scrap him out between your toes).
curiously enough the "the only way you know how" to open a band saw blade is how its taught in the official training i had to have for competency at work! LOL its the way to fold them back up that takes the skill!
For a minute there I thought you were making the gorgeous artistic version of Charlie for your daughter. Silly me. At least you still have the slug mummy and glitter slug. RIP Charlie
Blake, your work is outstanding. This is one of the few channels I watch at normal speed. The sculpture turned out magnificent, as always! Congratulations, my friend!
Every single time your work improves and amazes me! I wish I could be a fly on the wall in your shop while you’re working. I am a frustrated woodworker. You’ll know My place in heaven. Just look for the little cottage with an AWSOME, perfectly organized, fully equipped creation room (workroom for anyone that doesn’t speak in heavens vernacular lol!) I can’t wait for more projects! RIP Charlie, the internets famous “slug mummy” btw- my heart broke as you cut up the sparkly Charlie, but the resulting sculpture was far superior imho. May God keep you safe & bless you🙏🏻💗
I loved both snails! I especially loved the sparkly one. Although it looked a bit tacky I LOOOOVED the contrast between the dark wood and near white resin. Would love to see you make some kind of high contrast sculpture. That'd be gorgeous!! (BTW this isn't to say that the second snail is worse. It's by all means better!! Looks a lot cooler and fits the vibe. I just adored the high contrast and sparkles xD)
I ran across these snails when I was stationed at Pearl Harbor some years ago...nice to know what exactly they were...(and yes "Slug Mummy" is hilarious)...your decision to replace the glittery 'disco slug' with the transparent one was a good one...Charlie is beautiful!
I'm literally downloading footage to my PC for a new video for my channel while I watch this. I looked up real quick the lifespan of a Hawaiian snail and they do live up to 11 years in some species. Based on his/her size though, it appears he/she had lived a long and fruitful life. Chin up my friend!
What a terrific story and sculpture! I have a sneaking suspicion that the "I Love Slug Mummies" t-shirt made the change from the first slug to the second much easier for you.
I learned more about snails n slugs in this video about slug mummy than ever before. Rip Charlie. Also slugs are the cats of the snail world.. well at least encased.
can you make a Groudon out of wood and orange resin accent stood on a rock, a kyogre made of blue resin and wood accent floating in an ocean, and a rayquaza floating in between them somehow... because theyre frikkin awesome, youre frikkin awesome, and everything you make is frikkin awesome!
Oh this is gonna be so cool!!! Edit: and it. Was. AWESOME! Really loved the glitter snail too 😂😂 tho I understand why snail n. 2 fit the shell better Thanks for sharing!
I’m not sure - I think both slug mummies turned out great. The original with the glitter and swirls kind of invoked the mucous of the natural critter, but the pure clear option has some quiet dignity.
It would have been interesting if the slug portion of the sculpture was a lamp base with the shell being clear epoxy. You could embed some LEDs into the base and it would look sick when lit up.
Slug mummy lol such an amazing artist, beautiful work. Art is a very hard business to get in too and people don't realise how hard you need to work at it to get somewhere and how much art supplies cost beyond need the best stuff for best results
Check to see if your tensioner in the ban saw is pulling (stretching) the blade in one direction or the other. A lot of times what will happen is once the blade gets warm and cool again over and over it will stress crack if the blade has more tension on one side vs. the other.
Silicone mold making can be thickened so you don't have to do 5 layers (I usually do 3) Some possibilities - using filler such as polyfiber of cabosil (use respirator) or use a chemically thickening thixotropic agent (can be ordered from silicone mold making suppliers)
maybe if I call my garden slugs Mummy Snails from now on I might not hate them as much munching on my plants and vegetables. I kind alike the glitter as it's glitter ;-)
Hey bub, awesome sculpture as always! I’d like to comment on your shop, I’m jealous to say the least… I have a small wood shop that I love as well, I just wish I had more room… maybe someday I’ll build me a bigger one… anyway great job on the snail, the pattern is WOW! P.s. slugg mummy.
Here is the thing... Now that I have a bigger shop.... I just want a bigger one as well... I think you keep wanting more and more space no matter what. Sometimes its nice to remain in a small shop where you can get everything you need to done.

The “I ❤ Slug Mummies” tshirt was a great touch! 😂

I love the before, because the glitter gave the effect of wet. Love your work

I have been wanting to carve an elephant for a very long time. Hopefully soon!
Perhaps the Sphinx was the original slug mummy. Eye stalks lost to sandstorms...
Another stunning piece!👍
hahaa Thanks James!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who kept thinking of the Sphinx while seeing the slug mummy! 😂

I liked the Glitterslug! I could see one really dark blue version where the glitter is like stars. Galaxyslug!
Something thats really cool is making those fancy wood patterns is the process is super similar to making mosaic Damascus
It is very similar!
Well Slug Mummy and Optic Tentacle sounds interesting together XD
new fav words!
Ohh crap, Blake has discovered insects... lol... love your work and when you go off the beaten path... just waiting for that "Banana" sculpture...
hahaha banana sculpt will happen one of these days
Damn. That pattern block shown on the thumbnail is CRAZY. I see it's not just a regular checker. That is magnificent block of ...wood
Thank you! Took a LONG time to make
Slug mummy.
The final sculpture is unique, delightful, and gorgeous. The shell is incredible and the little gastropod himself is a cool likeness.
aw hell they are called gastropods!? I should have researched this before
