In '84 delivering a boat to MIA for a friend, I took the old route through the Dismal. From brushing the trees with our masts to having a snake fall from a tree onto the foredeck then skitter over the side, it was a memorable trip. South of there, we tied to a small dock and got groceries at a small store where they proudly sold 15 different flavors of snuff!? Thanks for taking us through once again! CUOTO!
I did RI to Norfolk in 2013. It was probably the best trip I’ve ever done. We had hoped to continue on through the dismal swamp, but sadly ran out of time. One day I’ll come and do it. I remember top rack marina as we were impressed with the dry storage set up. The navy patrol boats through Norfolk were slightly tedious, but we were on a British registered vessel and so attracted attention wherever we went 😂. Keep up the great content. CUOTO!
Thank you for watching Mathew. Good news! I just posted a "slow TV" episode of the swamp this morning. Watch it if you have an hour to kill and you'll be able to say you've done the Dismal. CUOTO
Looked like a great run Capt, weather window was great except for the wind not being favorable , well ya can't have everything when your on a time line.. thanks for posting this clip CYOTO
I think the stretch from Cape May across to the Delmarva Peninsula is called the "Cabbage Patch" - and with good reason. The IPs flat sections accentuate the pounding motion and I've had crap flying everywhere when crossing, no matter the time or tide. Everything needs to be battened down good and tight in that area.
Every season I ruminate about taking the Dismal but I always chicken out with my 6' draft. If it was just the keel I wouldn't worry, but the stabilizer fins stick both out and down and they are the weak part of the running gear. I could have told you that free dock was closed, which is one reason I suggested the High Street Landing in Portsmouth. That dock also has signs (no overnight blah blah blah) but they are obsolete, superseded by a new city policy; they just never get around to changing the signs. Top Rack is a great stop and usually the cheapest diesel for a long way in any direction. -Sean aboard m/y Vector
I finally translated dismal; it is "naargeestig" in Dutch. That is a really dismal word... LOL. I also wondered if your ship woud not be too big. Nice video, thank you.
Nice video !!! Thanks !! So how do the electronic navigation systems on the sailboat compare to what you are used to the tugs ??? Do you run AIS, (assume you do from previous real time tracking on your trips and from comment that other sailboats were not...)
Thank you for watching Bob. On the tug we have two of everything and it is generally bigger and more commercial. But on SVP we have just about all the same gear, AIS, Radar, MFD, wind Instruments, Autopilot, GPS, EPIRB, SatComs and Highspeed Internet. CUOTO
Hey Tim how are you hope all is well with you and Crisalida I’ve been really busy with work and trying to catch up on the videos can you go through the ICW is there enough water for you and how about the dismal swamp about 10 ten years ago myself and 3 friends took my friends 42 foot Bertram from seaport inlet marina belmar to the east coast of Florida through the ICW and dismal swamp we tied up at arbuckles Landing for the night it was very interesting and at times nerve wracking but fun talk soon Tim COUTO
@@svpaquita Yes it is a great experience we came off center a couple of times kettle one vodka doesn’t help and we ran aground once my friend Joe went over the rail to check the props everything was fine COUTO be safe
