You know why XG dropped kamiya? Because the others are controllable. That’s what Simon need - people he can control. KAMIYA writes her own lyrics. KAMIYA choreographs her own dances. KAMIYA styles her own clothes. KAMIYA edits her own videos still. KAMIYA is a real artist, the others sorry to say are only performers. XG don’t write their own lyrics. Almost all of XG don’t even speak English on an intermediate level, which is not a bad thing, but when your lyrics are largely in English (especially rap lyrics), it’s pretty obvious they aren’t from the girls. A man writing that. Nothing wrong with that, just saying the difference between KAMIYA and XG. KAMIYA is sincere. Kamiya is a boss. XG girls are workers. I can tell people like Simon will be threatened by KAMIYA’s aura.
Tbh I keep up with Japanese music in general (especially underground) and that’s how I found kamiya. I didn’t watch the documentary until last week so I didn’t even know she was associated with the group XG. When I finally did watch, and saw Simon reluctantly use KAMIYA’s ideas right before dropping her, it all made sense.
He wanted girls he could mold into the perfect performers, meanwhile kamiya is going to do what needs to be done in her own way.
I felt horrible for kamiya but you know what? I don’t think she would have been happy with XG in the long run. I feel like between the Japanese idol industry at big corps like Avex and the kpop slave trade of girl group performers, both of which have every single aspect of their lives controlled down to the socks they wear.. it would be miserable for her. Maybe she would be happy to have many fans at first but I think she would feel restricted too much. And I think the controllers of XG would hate KAMIYA and feel she is disrupting their group.
Only thing I worry about is that avex is a huge company and I know the Japanese entertainment industry has a lot of power in Japan and suppresses others, blacklists people they don’t like (it happened to my best friend back in the 2000s) which makes it INSANELY hard to go your own way and be truly independent. Things could be changing, I haven’t been exposed directly to the Japanese entertainment industrial complex in many years now.
Regardless, I am going to support kamiya as an ARTIST - not a PERFORMER. Kamiya is her own person, and she owes nobody anything.
I don't think KAMIYA would appreciate you speaking this way about her sisters in XG whom she still has a very good relationship with.
KAMIYA also still has a very good relationship with Simon and KAMIYA respects him greatly.
@@jonathanwatson5818 i think you misinterpreted what I said but it doesn’t matter anyway. What I said is valid - groups like that are very carefully curated. They are performers. I’m not saying they suck, I’m not saying they are worthless, I’m not saying they aren’t talented, im not saying they are enemies, I’m not saying anything bad. I’m saying that kamiya can’t be in a group like that because she can’t be controlled. The whole point of any group like that is to mold people into the ultimate entertainers to be idolized. Every aspect of their lives are controlled. This is true in both kpop and jpop. I have friends who were idols in Japan in the late 2000s and they got blacklisted by their talent agency bc they didn’t do what they were told. That’s the reality of that industry.
I’m not saying she’s better than anyone, I’m saying that she is overflowing with her own ideas and creativity and I don’t think she’s that interested in being controlled.
Kamiya has been making her own music for over a year now and it doesn’t seem like she’s picked up by any label in Japan yet. I don’t know if that is by choice or because she got blacklisted like so many others have in the Japanese entertainment industry. I could be mistaken but I haven’t heard her say either way in the few interviews she’s done. My hope is that she just wants to be independent, but any agency in Japan would be very stupid to not promote her and give her any resource she needs with full creative control.
Simon even says in the documentary they did that the reason why he cut her was because she would be better as a solo artist. There is only one reason why a powerful man training a bunch of young girls on how to be perfect rappers, dancers, singers, and idols in general would do and say that. It wasn’t because she wasn’t good enough and it wasn’t because she was too good, it was because she just wouldn’t be able to handle being in a group like that, even as a leader. He doesn’t want the group to be kamiya’s group where kamiya shows her (possibly cooler) ideas.
There is a saying in Japanese 出る釘は打たれる it means the nail sticking up gets hammered down. Out there they do appreciate talent and creativity but also if you are in a group you are in a group and not a solo artist.
XG is no different from spice girls, Backstreet Boys, or most other pop groups around the world. They are curated.
There’s not inherently anything wrong with XG rapping English lyrics they don’t understand. They are good at what they do, they look cool, have an outward facing positive message so far, etc. it’s great entertainment. I’d love to see what XG are capable of on their own, maybe someday way down the line we will see.
Anyway I’m just pointing out the difference between the two.
I find it suspicious that kamiya hasn’t blown up yet but maybe she doesn’t want to. You can tell by kamiya’s mischievous look on her face that she struggles with authoritarianism more than most others. That’s what I like about her.
It’s great if she’s still friends with the other girls in XG, they went through a lot together over years. An insane experience that most people will never understand. I cant imagine my own kids doing it at the ages they were..
But regardless of all of that you cannot deny that there is a difference between ENTERTAINER/IDOL and CREATIVE ARTIST. Both have their places in society. The entertainer/idol can be highly talented and trained too, and they will often be far more popular because they have a lot of resources backing them as a product to be marketed.
The very creative artists don’t always make it big. Some don’t want to… some do but get overlooked until way later. That’s just how it is.
Anyway you don’t need to white knight for XG. Nothing I am saying is insulting or wrong. Also, don’t make the assumption that she wouldn’t appreciate what I’m saying, because I’m not saying anything is wrong with XG or Simon. Again - im only explaining why Simon would let her go - it’s not because she can’t do it or doesn’t have “what it takes” - perhaps Simon dropped her from XG because he thought KAMIYA would be miserable after some time, being told what to do. Or maybe he thought she would be a ticking time bomb who would mess up the industry plant group he is growing.
@@samtron5000 The thing is you are wrong on a couple of points. 1. XG isn't told what to do and they are not controlled. They have their own ideas and input into their lyrics and choreography and even what they wear or what they eat, way more than many other groups. 2. XG does understand a good amount of English so you saying they are rapping things in English they don't understand is false, they do understand.

The difference between you and I is that I’m here because I like kamiya for who she is and I found her on my own, because I pay attention to Japanese underground music specifically. You know who she is because of XG, who you are clearly a huge fan of. Nothing wrong with that.
But you need to be real here -
Listen to the lyrics and the pronunciation and cadence when rapping, and then listen to the way almost all of them speak English. They are not able to form cohesive sentences in English when prompted with a question. If they do answer in English, it will be very broken with a heavy accent and will very cutely use the wrong words. There is NOTHING wrong with this at all. Please understand I lived in Japan for over 10 years, I was married to a Japanese man, and raised 2 half Japanese kids. It would not be possible for most or even all of XG to understand the references, metaphors, play on words, innuendos, etc. that are in the rap lyrics they are given.
For example, YOX wrote woke up. Look at the credits on the song.
I know you must be familiar with how controlling the industry is with its products because you mentioned they get to decide what they eat.
Imagine if they were smoking cigarettes? Do you think Simon would be OK with that? Or their agency, Avex?
But nobody tells kamiya what she can any can’t do.
In her song miniskirt she says she’s not doing anything/wearing any clothes to attract you. She knows she looks too cute and it doesn’t matter what you think. -->>>>She says she’s gonna take any selfies she wants to (I think this is a reference to Simon telling her she can fuck up her image by taking stupid selfies and posting them on the internet many many years ago when XG first started training)
Those are HER words not anyone else’s. Based on HER experiences and nothing else.
Maybe you don’t understand Japanese so you miss these things because she doesn’t often put English subs on her music videos.
Surely you can see the difference between someone like kamiya and manufactured pop groups right?
Anyway at the end of the day it doesn’t matter because you are clearly going to defend XG no matter what even from people who aren’t attacking them.. as if you say anything that isn’t absolute praise requires defense. lol.
