    If anyone finds it difficult to keep fresh fruit and veggies from going bad before getting around to eating them, u may have a solution for you! I'm now in a one-person household and always had produce going bad before I could consume everything. HOWEVER and by a total accident few months ago, the temperature in my fridge was changed from the recommended 38°F to 35°F, and EVERY bit of produce now lasts at least twice as long. As I type this, I have organic blueberries in their original plastic container that are one day shy of being in my fridge for 4 weeks, and they will easily last another 2wks. Yes, that's SIX weeks! Yesterday, I finished eating the last 5 in a pint of organic strawberries ai purchased 15 days ago, and there was not a single soft spot 9m any of them. Prewashed, bagged greens, like spinach, arugula, and spring mixes, last well into their 4th week before I see even the smallest of wilting. I have two heads of super fresh looking romaine in my veggie drawer -- I purchased them with the above-mentioned blue berries nearly 4 weeks ago. A few months ago, I found a great deal on organic red grapes ($1.29/lb) and purchased 10 lbs. I ate those grapes w/lunch for just over 9 weeks.
    It was by accident that I stumbled upon how much longer fresh produce lasts at 35F vs 38F, but I will never go back to 38F .
    If I had not experienced this first hand, I'd have a hard time believing produce could last this long, especially berries. Additionally, I do not use any special produce bags or containers. I leave everything in it's original packaging b/c I figure the manufacturers know better than me. Seriously, the next day you fgo supermarket shopping and but produce, set your fridge to 35F and make a note of the date. Now, I can buy fresh items more in bulk because they past longer. Also, plastic milk containers last anveqsy two weeks, but to extend the life even more, our your mk hugs in brown paper bag. The bag will keep out light, and the light is was jump starts the bacteria growing that spoils the dairy milk.

    I’m loving watching the going-grocery-shopping-with videos, but as a native Swede, living in Sweden, it baffles me how high the prices are in the US (obviously not the ones where the packages are big, because the quantity is huge, as well as some other ones, where it’s seriously cheap) - Milk, for example, even in a 1,5L carton, going for $5 is just 🤯

    • @Thegrocerylady
      @Thegrocerylady  2 роки тому +4

    • @charlotte1704
      @charlotte1704 2 роки тому

      @The mysterious Miss X I’ve noticed in a few grocery haul videos, that there have been a few places where it says ‘$4.99’ or ‘$5’ underneath the carton 😬 But it’s obviously not everywhere. I mean, there’s been a huge inflation in Sweden as well, but even the big gallon of milk thingy doesn’t cost $3 😬 If anything, the milk prices seem to remain the same

    I eat my chilli with rice next to it and a bit of cheese on top.🍚 I don't think cornbread is a thing here but I'm not sure. The first time I ever heard of cornbread with chilli was when I tried it in Disneyland.
    Watching American food shop videos makes me want to live there so bad😂 Although I find it crazy how everything there seems to be just in bulk😂 and also prices seem to be quite high but I'm not sure.

    • @Thegrocerylady
      @Thegrocerylady  3 роки тому

      Hi Emma in the UK! Amazing how different people eat their chili all around the world! 😊 Someone else from Europe thought our prices were high, but many others thought it was much cheaper. I suppose it depends on where you live. We have the same issue in the US. Some places are significantly more expensive than others. 🤷🏻‍♀️What did you think of cornbread with chili when you tried it?

    • @hellogoodbye3957

      Also she was shopping at a "bulk" store, this is a store designed specifically for people who want to buy large amounts. These stores usually require a paid membership to access. There are tons of stores with normal, smaller sizes. These are free to the public. Lol!!!

    • @arraybabe8514
      @arraybabe8514 2 роки тому

      British ex-pat here. I feel ya! People over here cook so differently, but I'm lucky that my hubby likes his chili Brit style. This is kind of an odd video as this woman is buying a lot of items in Sam's that are so expensive compared to equivalent prices in Walmart or Aldi. I used to have a Sam's Club membership myself, but their price per ounce or lb for many products is a LOT higher than Walmart, so I decided that paying the $45 a year wasn't worth it for me. Granted a few things are cheaper if you are buying in bulk, but some are very deceptive, like the " pancake syrup" which is just HFCS with a pretty label and not healthy at all. The peanuts, frozen berries, cheezits also are much cheaper to buy at Walmart than Sams. Sams is good for bulk cooking oils and cheeses (sometimes) and their pre-roasted chickens are delish
      !

    • @arraybabe8514
      @arraybabe8514 2 роки тому

      Sam's also uses a lot of tricks too ... like that spinach she showed with "1 pound" on the pack in huge text. The Walmart equivalent is a dollar cheaper and 18 ounces, so its a lot cheaper per ounce overall.

Sometimes I’ll add elbow pasta with my chili for chili Mac. I tried Nutella many times and I don’t like it. I cook my chicken breast in oven at 350 for 2 hours and I don’t precut them.
