It’s wild to think a simple reality show would give birth to one of the best pop groups ever. We and they were all so blessed they were paired with Xenomania.

Not really. You have a pool of millions of people, you find the hottest who can sing half decent and throw in good song writers and dance moves and boom.

These would have been on the highlight reel of embarrassing/cringey auditions today. Insane the remarkable voices auditioning for shows now and this was the _good_ bunch from 2002. Wow lol

Yet funnily these remarkable talents from nowadays release music that cannot hold a candle to what girls aloud brought to pop music. yes a lot of it is the work of xenomania, but xenomania have worked with other groups/artists and the music never hits quite like girls alouds stuff
Yeh but now it's all super technical singers who after a certain point all sound the same, it's not good to actually listen to, just sounds like vocal exercises. Plus they were putting together a group here, they didn't want 5 girls all competing with each other riffing and ad libbing all over the track. They wanted girls who could complement each other vocally, sing in tune and perform good pop songs. I would by far rather listen to Girls Aloud than the warbly shit all today's "technical singers" make.
You mean like those disposable singers with sob stories and no personalities that are forgotten when a new season begins? or the ones that get a record deal flop after their debut to never be heard or seen again? (Leona Lewis) I guess talent without charisma or personality isn't enough to make it 😢 lol but let's ignore reality and pretend we're all vocal couches that only listen soprano and tenor range vocalists lmao
nah this show was different to the x factor and the voice. simon cowell has even taken the piss out of girls aloud many times teasing cheryl that they dont have talent. thats why he was so over the moon that Leona won in 2006 cos he was gonna quit airing x factor and pop idol over pop stars lacking talent.
Kimberley was brought back when she thought she was done, and Nicola was saved as well. It's like those five girls were meant to be!

I don't understand the people who say in the comments that Girls Aloud is a bad and generic group, and neither to those who say they can't sing, especially Cheryl. In my opinion, I love Girls Aloud. Is one of my favourite pop groups. I love Sarah, Kimberley, Cheryl, Nadine and Nicola. They're so beautiful and their voices too. RIP Sarah. 😢😭💔🕊️

@@fezzik7619 A lot of the top stars do not have the best voice, it may be looks, performance ability, stage presence, personality, connections etc that get them there. Many phenomenal singers don't get there dues sadly. It is what it is.
I remember this all so clearly. I was 19 back then and thought Sarah was the prettiest, but looking back now I can see it was by far Cheryl. When you're young it's all about the blonde hair and a tan haha.
Nicola and Cheryl have always been best friends but it was Kimberley and Nadine who were very close too. Their families got really close aswell. I wonder what happened 'cuz now it's Kimberley, Nicola and Cheryl and it was said that there was no falling out as there was no friendship to begin with but back then there was. They both wanted to get into the band together same as Nic and Cheryl.

Nadine and Cheryl were absolutely stunning.
I think in her own way that Geri saw "herself" in Cheryl because they both came from Low Income Environments and because someone took a chance and believed in her she felt that Cheryl should be given that same chance. Berry Gordy believed in Diana Ross and she didn't do too badly now did she?

cheryl's singing got worse as she went on, whilst Kimberly's improved. they all looked their best in 2006.
There is no producer out there turning away Cheryl. Her image sells.
This show could almost be a case study in the amount of luck you need to make it big in the music industry.
Cheryl: Was in the bottom twice. Came very close to being eliminated in the final 7.
Nadine: If she hadn't been caught lying about her age, she would have stayed with Six (who never entered the charts outside of Ireland and split after 2 years).
Kimberley: Was first reserve for the final 10 after another contestant was discovered to be over 25. Was in the bottom 3/4 every week.
Sarah: Was in the bottom 2 in the final week, and was up against Javine who had never been in the bottom before. The phone lines were kept open even as they announced the results - and who knows who would have made it in otherwise?
Nicola: Was second reserve for the final 10. Got in after another girl (also named Nicola) quit the show. She and Nadine were the only girls to never be in the bottom.
Not to mention the boy band from the same show completely flopped, and the losers from the final also made their own bands and could have potentially caused another 'Liberty X' situation.

Shaunda Johnston who was from Atlanta, was a Shoo-In to get into the US Popstars Group but they didn't take her. The biggest irony is that she never got signed to LaFace Records (TLC, Toni Braxton, Usher, & Avril Lavigne). Also Shaunda was too good to sing in a Group, she would have mopped the other girls off of the stage A lot of Black Contestants on American Idol, Canadian Idol, Popstars were mind blowing but they didn't go far.

5:42 Just hits my heart every time I watch this part. You could tell that Cheryl didn't want Aimee to leave and she wasn't expecting it either. Glad that Aimee got to be in another band though. The band was called "Clea". To be real though, I listened to both bands and they were great! Also, rest in peace to Sarah. I can not believe that she died two years ago last month (September 5th, 2021). The girls (obviously) must've been so sad to hear that she passed. I'm also sad about it. She's still alive, but not on earth. She's in heaven.

these 5 girls were lucky they auditioned when they did, the only two I think that would have got through to bootcamp if it was today's x factor would be Nadine and possibly Nicola. Kimberley and Sarah have mediocre voices and Cheryl's is really weak. She got this far solely on her looks because she was beautiful. All the other girls back then were pretty even with the lank hair and the patchy make up but you can see it back then, she was beautiful. She's so striking, it shines through and that's why she is the most successful because this industry is based on looks and not really on talent. She's a great dancer too to be fair but singing is not her forte.
they’re not ‘lucky’, lol, they were a GIFT to pop music. their producers never could recreate the magic with other groups except for sugababes. girls aloud were incredible.
@@buttamilk3329 they had the songs and those were the producers' work. Sugababes worked with the same producers... shows you it's mainly the songs that got them far.
In the pop industry you can have a mega voice but if you don't have catchy songs you won't go anywhere. Look at what happened to Leona Lewis, who can outsing any of the Girls Aloud members... With no good tunes from pop producers she has been basically forgotten.

I still think she was a babe even then, considering how fashions have changed etc. I watched this when I was maybe 13 or 14 and found myself completely drawn to Cheryl, seems I wasn't alone and I do believe for a majority, she had that 'thing' that can't always be put into words.

Somebody should have said There were alot of UK Black Pop Stars who aren't selling records and it's hard but they soldier on. Joyce Sims (Come Into My Life), Princess (Say I'm You're Number One), Desiree (Kissing You), and Caron Day who thought she was all "that" in Soul To Soul, none of them are selling the way they used to but it's the nature of the beast.
