Many said Sd-1 has less bass...as if thats a bad thing. In a Live Band setting, you need a guitar tone that's powerful and clear...and most of the time it's the excessive and mushy bass in your guitar tone that makes it 'lost' in the overall music mix. With less bass via Sd-1, your guitar tone will cut through easily. trust me on this...cos I have tried it.
They are closer than I would have thought. I've use an SD1 for over 30 years. I've never even tried another one. It does suck some of the low end. Just something I have to live with.
I use sd1. I find that she suck low end a bit. Other than that she's a hot pedal to have and really affordable. One of my favourite pedal in my rig. I have a blast all the time with it.
SD1 is better imo because it doesn't color the amps natural tone as much. I'd rather use the Boss to boost an amp or solos but the maxon for the drive itself.
The Maxon doesn’t really fire up when engaged. I’ve got one and putting it against my other OD pedals they fire up at just 50% volume whereas the 808 doesn’t.
Ramidani i have both...as far as boosting, they r pretty much the same.....but for tone, i still prefer the maxon....the sd 1 sounds more like a ts 9 to me, but ya its the best economical od u can get for under 100 bux......but my favorite boost pedal has become my randall facepunch, that is the most versitile boost ever, u can even make a horrible cheap overdriven amp sound great with it

Today I bought a 1986 sd1 and its going to be right next to my maxon od808.. you can always have both. But that sd1 surprised me... sounds killer
Both are great-the OD808 brings that subtle X-factor to the sound

If you turn the drive low and the pedal volume high it seems to lose less low end.
OD808 is definitely warmer, so it has my vote between the 2. My current favorite "Tube Screamer" is the EHX East River Drive.

Maxon is way smoother when the sound really breaks (two notes played simultaneous)

very good comparison to make sd1 sound like maxon. it means sd1 have more range than maxon od.
If you use a looper you can't gauge pick attack.

Maxon is smoother and true bypass.. Boss buffer is questionable
I have an sd1 and it way thins out the tone. No bass and brittle.
i use od pedals only for boosting a gain channel, and tried many, but the 808 always manages to beat all

sd 1 is the best...it will be more nice if we mod the sd1 to tube screamer.
Sooo...it would be better if we mod the SD-1 to the Maxon od808? Ha Ha Ha
