Back then homies were “Vatos y Pachucos, later Cholos”. The guys always had the clothes very creased with their Pendleton shirts draped over their fore arms, some wire fishnet on the heads to keep their hair laying back. The girls were called “Rucas” with their teased up hair and tight short skirts.
I remember being a kid riding my bike from the La Medina projects on Sunday nights to look at the low rider car clubs cruising Whittier Blvd in East LA,
Later we moved to Santa Ana and it was downtown 4th street. In the 7th grade a white guy named Roger but everyone called him “Fish” (his face looked like a fish) that was all pachuco started “F Troop” originally there were a half dozen jr. high school kids (67’-68’ Smedley jr. high school, Santa Ana)

In those days they fought with fist, sticks, and knives, no weasel drive by shootings.
Today blacks are credited with the “homie /gangster” thing, but it was Mexicans in East LA and Pacoima that were the originals, back then (late 50s early 60s) blacks wouldn’t dare because of the white racism and oppression. Mexican immigrant children were the original “homies” (Vatos, Pacheco’s, later Cholos)

Don’t get it twisted homie!! Back in the days they were allowed to do drive byes’ and got away with shit that is considered to be stingy now days. I got jumped in my neighborhood when I was 14 but was in the mix already at 11 . Yeah it’s different now but see we have to overcome different obstacles because of their mistakes. Anyways we get out the car and walk up to the target and shoot it point blank.. x!!!

My advice: Live it but be smart and move on eventually. Don’t die over it. Life has much more to offer if you play it smart.
