“Hey I’ve seen this one before!” “What do you mean, it’s brand new!”
The good news is that I’ll enjoy rewatching this.
yeah sure I’ll watch it again
LMAO SAME. Idk why I love rewatching commentary on some of my favorite things but it’s nice background noise!
How did you know
Hey! Some of you probably know but this is technically a reupload. The original gotten weirdly botched by UA-cam. The audio would play 5 seconds ahead of the video which ruined the timing on a lot of jokes. It was only up for about 4 hours. I made some minor tweaks but it's mostly the same video. Let's hope nothing bad happens to it this time!
Finally i can finish the video woooo
Can't wait for you to cover red dead redemption 2. It's inevitable at this point Rowby. You know it, and I know it!
Makes sense. Great video btw
Yippee
Yay it’s back, I can watch the whole video
"You could give everything to make the world a better place, and it wouldn't say "Thank you"."
That one was actually rather poignant for me.
20:34 Bill & Frank were also a thing in the game, as well. That magazine that Ellie finds in Bill's shelter confirms it.
Bill's section of the story serves pretty much the same narrative purpose both in the game and the show: to get Joel to open up to Ellie, and by proxy, the idea of love again. It just arrives at that conclusion in different ways.
The game does it by, as you said, taking Joel's isolationism to an extreme and showing how being closed off to it can leave you utterly fucking miserable, paranoid, and alone.
The show, through showing that Bill & Joel knew each other for a LONG time (showing that they both had an understanding of their roles in their respective relationships, that of a protector), and via a personal letter addressed to Joel (and by showing the audience the ins and outs of B&F's relationship)... It shows Joel what being open to love can lead to: a life that is absolutely full of danger and fear... But you won't have to suffer through it alone, and you'll have a purpose.
Tl;Dr: in the games, Bill is a warning. In the show, he's a reminder. Ultimately serving the same purpose, in different means. And that's pretty neat
These long rowby videos are definitely my favorite thing to watch in bed on a rainy day.
Love the long form content man, keep making more!
I said it before and I'll say it again. I never thought of Ellie shooting the hunter that way. Good catch.
(12:25) The brick gag really spoke to me
Mannnnn.... Why can't there be a "The Jerks Guide to Breakups". This just happned and I need an eerily similar jerks video about my own situation to feel better about this all..
You're totally right on the story beats you discuss around 36 mins. At least I think so. It IS a really neat bit of storytelling, and absolutely sells the idea that this is a living world with factions vying for power. The sniper takes Occam's Razor and assumes the dude runnin up on him is another faction, it totally makes sense! I know self-deprecation is your humor, but even if other people saw it, you're the first I've seen to take the time to point it out, so have some joy in that, at least.
Yeah that was a pretty neat observation that I had NEVER thought about in my YEARS of playing and knowing this game. There's no official confirmation, bit his theory holds a lot of weight.
I remember watching a video on Joel’s perspective. They were gonna experiment on Ellie to TRY and find a cure. There’s no guarantee they would find one, especially in a reasonable time. If the person you loved most was gonan be taken away for a CHANCE to do a good thing would you flip the coin?
They also had tried and failed and killed several other people who were infected as well But this was retconned in subsequent re-releases because it breaks the BS in the second game.
I’m glad there will be a part 2 eventually. I actually enjoyed it. I think it carried over the source of distrust and exploring her fear of being alone. With the sense of growing and not making the same mistake Joel makes
12:22 finally! Someone else mentions the Three-Hit Brick Trick! It's my favorite mechanic in the game, and not nearly enough people know about and use it. It's an absolute necessity on Grounded.
Trying it in part 2 and realizing that it doesn't work broke my heart lol. Thankfully, the rest of the game kicked ass and that made up for the brick nerfing :P
Plus, I get why they nerfed the bricks. When you think about it... Getting to kill humans, runners, stalkers, clickers etc for free is pretty OP
15:38 well, it does kinda become that on account of Joel carrying it around for 5 years aka the entire duration that Ellie's known him for. It holds no emotional value for Joel it's just a gun to him. But it def does for her
49:56 Joel *HAD* to torch this man.... for self defense
"You did not see this girl on the box art."
+1 comment for the algorithm. Yeah great video once again, love all the editing clips and gags spliced into your discussion (like you’re defending Oregon hah). And good job on the “final essay” that every last of video has to discuss, the discussion around Marlene was unique and stood out.
loved this video, very open to you doing another long analysis
The last of us no damage runs are a work of art
Just as fun to watch again! Thanks!
I'm excited for a lou2 video. I get sick of defending that game from people who won't listen.
Glad to see that other people see this game as what it really is. I would love to write more but I'm tired and slightly drunk so I will stop here
a high quality tlou2 video where the creator understands how good it is, is long overdue for being made. glad rowby's on track to fill that hole.
I liked it, and I didn't watch or play the first one, so I knew nothing about Ellie as a person. To me Abbie was more likeable, though my biggest gripe with it was why would Ellie give up on a perfect life because of Joel's brother bitching, going on a vengeance mission only to give up at the end, it just seemed like stupid writing. We'll see what Rowby thinks and what people will discuss about it.
@@Relhio Late reply, but my two cents is that Tommy just rekindled a feeling Ellie had tried to ignore. Guilt, regret, whatever it was.
The same feeling that made her go on that spree in the first place. Something she couldn't ignore no matter what, probably something that bothered her every single day of that "perfect life". She couldn't go another second knowing Abby was out there, partly for closure or a continued revenge. Can't be just one reason.
@@Relhio Have you ever played or seen the game Sifu? It's story is also very focused on revenge, and the "true ending" is giving mercy to all the bosses.
Highly recommend that game!
I don't think Ellie gave up in the end. She spared her in the end. Deep down Ellie might understand that Abby and her are very similar, and that her killing Joel is the same as her killing Abby's friends. She decided that killing again won't change anything. It won't bring him back, or make her happy. idk for sure, but that's what I think.
@@asdo116 I don't want to spoil my thoughts before I make a full video but... I can't help myself here lol
[TLOU2 Spoilers] I believe the reason Ellie sparing Abby actually makes her feel better is that it's the first time Ellie has been able to make a choice for herself. Throughout a majority of her life other people have defined the most important moments in it. She doesn't get to choose if she died for a cure. She didn't get to choose if Joel died. In Seattle Abby beats her to a pulp and once again takes agency away from her.
So being in the position where she can finally make her own choices, and choosing to do the right thing, I think that gives her the closure that Seattle didn't. It's that she was able to choose whether Abby lives or dies. And while she's lost everything, all there is, is the promise that she can build it better from there.
Great video. Cant wait for your video on Part 2 whenever it pops up in my recommended
Ngl the multiplayer is highly addictive and satisfying. And it’s still somewhat still active, I think you should check it out.
Hell yeah, weekend's looking good now!
the little tune at the end 🥺
Getting close to 100k good shit hope you can get to 1 million I think you deserve it I can binge your vids for some reason.
thank you!
@@RowbyVids you deserve it as much as it’s subjective you cover a lot of games I’m interested in and have jokes that’s are genuinely funny. Watching your singularity video was one and all the other jerks guides are what kept me playing dbd for a while longer then I would have.
Rowby is my favorite UA-camr, there is no contest at all
2 vids in a week?? We def ain’t seeing him till the next killer drop😞
Wow thank you for this video cause I got my flight delayed for an hour and it helped me to not die of boredom
I love watching watching remastered videos
I guess I'll rewatch a fucking masterpiece of a video on a game I personally can't stand.
A 5 second delay was what brought it down?
would love to see a last of us part 2 video from you. i fully believe that everyone thinks its 10/10 or 0/10 without an in between. Would love to hear how you feel, with your brand of snark attached.
Fuck yeah, I played the original PS3 TLOU, and I spent an ENTIRE 3 day weekend playing through the whole thing. It was one of the most memorable journeys I've ever been through.
Thank you for this wondrous slop.
I never got to play the LoU growing up, I had a Xbox and my parents refused to get me a PS. So as I entered College and got my own PC, I was happy to hear we were getting a PC port, once it came out though I was stunned to see it wasn’t working for a lot of people. Luckily I’m not one of them! The game is great and I’ve already played it 4 times by now. Great video by the way.
Thank god it’s back. Sorry that UA-cam fucking nuked the damn thing. Loved this video
That transition from Riley to David
finally I get to watch this after yt snatched it out of my watch later
13:03 kino
Can't wait for the TLOU2 video
I still don't get why people consider this the GOAT. It felt very overrated when I finally played it.
0:58 Far Cry 2 actually did this 5 years earlier (Shame enemy dialogue devolved after that).
29:43 One time I lured everyone into the Cafe, and stealth killed all of them. The bodies just kept piling up, and I couldn't believe it worked.
40:03 Black Friday be like:
57:45 I loved how Joel was such a calm and reasonable person!
Hearing him call Days Gone mediocre made me cry😢
Same
And god of war Ragnarok forgettable? Definitely not neither games are forgettable.
@@Bonbonbon739 honestly, Days Gone might be my favorite game.
@@Bonbonbon7392018 better though
Rowby uploaded!? MOM!!
Mannlike i wouder some times how the hell dose like guy not have like 500k or monre and some of video should at least have a couple of his videos need one mil views like god your so underrated
44:28 Doomed forever but hey you got 4 more left 😅
12:23 are you giving me the option of more violence? If so then yes I'm sold!
Bro you'd make an awesome Bill Cipher😂
He thought he could throw in that quick F&H reference without the entire F&H community taking note of it
Third time watching and I'm just now noticing AI THE SOMNIUM FILES MENTIONED
Grounded is pretty much ‘throw a bottle/brick and then attack whilst they’re stunned’ it’s actually a fun way to beat the Left Behind DLC and saves on arrows
Don’t like the slander on ragnarok but I’ll let slide cause this video is great
YAAAY its back now i can finish it 💃
26:33 JOHN BRICK THE MOVIE
Good video
Hype train for Tlou part 2!!!
OH SHIT A FEAR AND HUNGER REFERENCE AYOOOOOO
This is a great video, it's a shame youtube ate the first release.
Was that a fear and Hunger reference i saw?
this has inspired me to go actually beat the fucking game
Hey days gone is a great game god damn it
8:28 Anime Girl Saul Goodman cameo
Also, I played this game on PC and it was functional for me on day 1. Sucks that it wasn't everyone's experience :/
At least it is good for everyone now
Also, solid tier list! I'm in agreement
The Fireflies WERE attempting to stabilize things in Pittsburgh. But the hunters just straight up turned on them because, in their paraphrased words, they didn't wanna follow orders from someone on the other side of the country. They felt like the people of the QZ sacrificed too much, and the Fireflies hadn't bled enough, therefore the hunters should be the ones to run things here. So they dispatched of the fireflies. Ofc they did cuz they outnumbered em. Pittsburgh shows that Fireflies, a rebel group, actually CAN defeat the military but they obviously need some support from the people cuz they're outnumbered and outgunned by the fucking military lol. It's just that people are imperfect and not everyone would want to join the outside group. I guess they were anti-big government lol
Also, i believe you're right. I'm pretty sure that Marlene poster is an asset reuse mistake as that poster doesn't exist in the original/remastered version of the game. And there's nothing to suggest that Marlene was ever outside of Boston. She's the leader of the Boston chapter of the Fireflies.
Henry and Sam, I legit thought he was just gonna skip their end there for a minute
I can’t aim on controller at all idk how you do it
Y'know, you kind of have a point about that Noucome/OCD thing
Prey explained?!
More games need to have custom difficulty... I love having the difficulty of grounded but with the resources of survivor. It's called grounded, but in that reality it appears every enemy just happened to have used their last bullet by the time you kill them.
And lastly, companions on easy. Having them stand around is unrealistic. Having them fight at their best adds immersion and makes you actually feel alone when they're not around. Otherwise you're just essentially soloing the game anyway
This is actually the most last of us content I’ve ever consumed. the games never really looked fun to me and I don’t watch those kinds of shows
One year ago, you said that the hag never had been updated. they finally did it.
FINALLY
Everyone talking about rewatching it after it was taken down due to technical reasons
Meanwhile im rewatching it because im bored lol
JOHN BRICK! HAHAHA
So your comment at the beginning at calling The Last of Us a work of art caught my attention.
You’re certainly not wrong, and gaming as an art form is an avenue I’d love to hear you talk about. I will say however that Last of Us as an artful game ultimately feels weak to me.
The Last of Us can be best broken down into set piece after set piece with some combat sections sprinkled in-between. The artful side mainly comes from its cinematography and appearance. This, I feel, is what makes it a weak artful game. Because sure, all that is certainly artsy, but having it be chock full of set pieces really hurts it as a game.
A good example of an artful game I’d argue would be Shadow of The Colossus. Each fight is a puzzle and the world you’re exploring is as beautiful as it is fascinating. Is it a better game than the Last of Us as a whole? That’s down to the player, but I do think it’s stronger as a piece of art because the game is far more immersive and engaging, sacrificing less for its art.
By contrast you have a game like The Last Guardian, a game that mostly art and very little, very frustrating game.
If we were to put those two games on opposite extremes, The Last of Us is sort of in the middle, a game who’s artistry is mainly from its cinematography, where the gameplay doesn’t suffer from it per day but ultimately feels very lackluster.
I’ll shut up and watch the rest of the video now, I just had to get my thoughts out, and again, I’d love to hear you talk about games as art if you’re down with it.
I really enjoyed the last of us part 2 I think that people we're just mad because of Joel and that one Abby cut scene but other then that amazing game hope to see a jerks guide to last of us part 2
Finex parasocial distant father. I'll watch it again.
I wonder what deviantart was... now I know why you said it's worse.
Yeah my mic doesn’t work for the game does anyone have this issue with the X box series s ?
In honest I would love to see you do the last of us part 2 but I do think that the game makes people upset sadly
glad that every lou fan agrees that the sewer level is the worst
lets go
I still don’t know with your dead by daylight videos how your channel isn’t it have 1 million
I'm just rewatching this to give it the view it lost from being reuploaded
Riding on a horse is like riding on an uncomfortable smelly motorcycle that goes really slow and doesn't listen to you.
If you wanted to know
Oh my god...I watched it for the second time and I get to fully appreciate the minor with adhd joke!!!
Did not do that the first time.
lets gooo
I'll make sure you're excluded from my beanie massacre
It's just 'The Diablo" or "El Diablo". El is Spanish for the, so "The El Diablo" is redundant.
Glad I'm not the only one having issues with the PS5 controller. Seriously fuck this console lol
and in the next episode: jerks guide to outlast 1 e 2
……… Okay.
The Stick drift problem is just a skill issue on your part
Never played the game.
Never will.
Watch the vid anyway.
I refuse to elaborate.
you played on hard you arent better than me :P
omg i dont even have the last of us but i still wanna watch ur commentary
As a sidenote, I know a lot of people hated Tess' new design but I think it fits her character a lot better. She's a tough aging woman, tough enough to have gotten that old during a time that difficult. It was always implied she was around joels age but in the original game she looked far too young, I think naughty dog never really considered how her character played into her design in the original considering she's meant to be 50 and a badass... like no scars, no wrinkles, nothing. Her new design is just more fitting
you sound near identical to matpat from game theory
