I'd assume it's based off their perks, sound levels, and cosmetics for blending in. Bill for example is extremely loud even when healthy, but his dark colours let him blend in pretty well on some darker grassy maps as well as 2/3 of his personal perks being pretty damn good (BT being imo the most useful perk in the game if everyone has it).
edit: his complaint about exactly this in the video is sort of pretentious given that multiple other content makers were able to cover it no problem, and buying in-game currency is stupid versus just buying the DLC and getting both the killer and survivor.
He is right for the most part but I just found that kinda nitpicky

As an outsider who just picked up the game like a week ago. Its been Interesting to go down the dbd rabbit hole of youtubers and content. Ive been enjoying the game a lot so far, but it really irks me the wrong way when I play my first match as a killer and went against 2 rank 4 survivors. Ngl, it made me feel awful about playing that side of the game. Everyone I watched online said it would help me to better know and understand how the killer works and thinks. And once I managed to get thru that game and detox from how upsetting it was, I think I enjoyed the game much more after that. As long as i didn't let myself get caught up in my shortcomings and just made sure to try and learn from my losses. I've found that it made the game much easier to deal with when I get dumpstered. Especially once I found those compilations, of all the top teir streamers and pros ALSO getting dumpstered from time to time.
The game is still rather fun regardless of how bad I am at it. Im shit at chases (on both sides) but I still enjoy the game. And I just wanted to say thank you for using the actual names of things and explaining all the terms because while I've been trying to research all the different terminology. Its been rather daunting trying to remember it all. ^-^

I had a nightmare about this game recently for some reason, there was me, Claudette, Bill and Ash.
The killer was the Trickster and the map was like some kinda of large IKEA store with walls and furniture forming cover for the killer and survivors in a maze like structure.
In the dream it played out like the game would, get hooked, repair gens, run from killer ect. What was scary was it was in first person for me, and the Trickster would taunt us when ever he’s near, get hooked or hit hurt like hell but healing felt really satisfying. Also unlike the other survivors, I could crawl on my hands and feet to move faster at a lower posture. This helped me a lot in the dream. Me and the killer had some weird perks too, like Hex:Brawler which decreased basic hit cool down by 15 percent when totem is alive, but the all totems aura is revealed for 5 seconds after two downs of a survivor, and I had a perk which allowed me to see scratch marks of me and other survivors when in proximity of the killer.

Amazing vid, 48 minutes of both DBD discussion and hilarious comedy. You also manage to throw in serious genuine analysis of how the DBD community’s relationship with itself works, and aren’t afraid to discuss unpopular view points on the game (i.e gens being boring).
Editing is great too, I don’t know how you manage to fit so many creative and unique jokes both into your script and visual presentation. Even little things like ‘yes I will use that Head-On clip as many times as I want’ are both hilarious and match your own style of commentary. You put the extra effort into every joke and it makes me laugh out loud each time.

For incentivising people to use teachables/other survivors, I have a pretty big recommendation.
For killers and survivors, either permanently add the teachables one at a time in the order you unlock them at levels 20, 25, and 45, or you randomly unlock one of them each time you prestige

I personally want a duos mode for killers. It could reward double the bloodpoints and xp earned as a survivor if you escape. That's 2 killers aswell as twice the difficulty. It would make it more challenging and rewarding for survivors, while also giving killers a good time

DH= Dead Hard (A perk from David King that’s annoying af)
NOED= No One Escapes Death (An endgame perk that is a bully machine against survivors.
KYF = Kill Your Friends (through customs or you just troll)
STBFL = Save The Best For Last (A perk from Myers/The Shape)
KFC = Couldn’t find this one. Rowby probably knew this and put it for the memes

This guy is a pretty good representation of my short experience (2 days ago i downloaded game for first time ) with this community , pretty much if survivor's don't aggressively mock you by bouncing in front of you instead of leaving straight out the gate so you know how much they think of you, but most likely they will get worried you didn't and message you afterwards telling you how much played you and that you suck... and yes this really happened on my 2nd day ever playing

I'm 100% with you on all perks that only work circumstantially. I try to run 2/3+ of a survivors starting perks on them and build around it, makes each Survivor feel themed and keeps things interesting. Any perk which you don't get use from every single game is essentially trash.. And I have to make exceptions when this is all a Survivor has as their base kit.

How to get Mettle of Man to trigger easily.
1. Brown medkit with styptic agent.
2. Take a protection hit at any point in the game then get healed by someone else (Or use a better healthkit that lets you heal and use the agent.) congrats you now have mettle of man ready.
3. When a killer is trying to hook someone, just bodyblock them. After the first hit, styptic and keep bodyblocking.
Now they have to either ignore you and drop the person on their shoulder, or hit you and trigger mettle of man, letting you take a THIRD hit which will often make them drop someone. Bam.

I have ideas for new items in dbd
Walkie Talkie, if you and another survivor has this u can hear them and they can hear u even if you are in solo que as long as u have game chat turned on, the better the walkie talkie the more clear and less staticky your voice sounds to the person on the other end. The could also add a proximity event or gamemode to make these better.
A cell phone. You can use these to “take pictures” of stuff around the map for survivors to see. Also they can allow you to place down and press “record” so that when the killer walks by ur phone it gives u a notification and u can see the killers location for like 30ish seconds.
A shovel, shovels can dig little traps around the map so if the killer walks in one the get stunned for a tiny bit, and since they seem to wanna give every item 2 abilities you can also use these to break a hole on a wall (not exit gates or map barriers) to essentially create a new vault however I am aware that this could essentially make some op loops so if you vault that same vault over 3 times in a minute it will get blocked off by the entity for another 2 minutes.
At the end of the day I’m not a dev so maybe my stuff is too trash or too op, they could nerf or buff it.

If anyone needs an example of how survivors with unique abilities would pan out. The game Identity V (or FTP Chinese DBD) has that in spades, as each survivor in the game fits into a specific role out of 4 categories that best suits their tool kit. When used right they can work through some characters are more broken than others. Meaning if the killer wants the upper hand they're going to have to go after a specific player who is using said character.
