    I just came across a loadstar today, I couldn't take my eyes off it. I have a built 95 dodge 3500 12 valve that would make a killer swap with a eaton 6 speed. Im glad I seen your videos it encourages me to get that truck now

    it has its beauty. good engine for sure. people sure can get diesels to really do some quick times. i wouldnt be concerned with how fast it is...i prefer how well it pulls a load.

      We aren’t really concerned with how fast it is. But we would like to bump it up just so it’s easier to keep up with the flow of traffic and stuff.

    I really like this series. My sons and I are building a rat rod from a school bus with a dt360 and a 1930s international truck. I have heard they are pretty easy to turn up the rpm and add a bit extra fuel to even with out changing any hard parts. Intercooler would be a real good idea I would say. I am Kind of fishing to see what others know about this. Also would like to know what you would be getting for larger injectors or where you get em from?

    • @gingerauto
      @gingerauto  3 роки тому +1

      I haven’t looked a ton into what it takes to turn them up besides the bigger injectors and upgraded p pump. We found a non running dt466 local to us. So we are going to take the injectors and turbo from that and put it on our truck.

      Google hypermax, wiped out enterprises, and carson stauffer diesel. These are mostly international specific shops. There are also shops like schields diesel, haisley machine, harts diesel, and others I can't think of at the moment.

    My Fairmont may have something it can be faster than! haha. All joking aside, still a lot of fun! I think you could wrap it out a little further in the second gear you put it into, but liked it

    Great video. I am also curious of the power possiblity for the engine.

    • @gingerauto
      @gingerauto  3 роки тому

      We hear they can handle 1000hp stock. But don’t personally know. I would imagine you would have to upgrade the valve springs to reach that.

    • @dieseldemon8562
      @dieseldemon8562 3 роки тому +1

      Yes, they are very capable platforms. Pullers are pushing them to over 1,000 hp on fuel only, with relatively minor mods to the engine internals- but I don’t know how long the engine would hold up to this outside of competition. Heavier push tubes and valve springs are required if going over 4K RPM, or manifold pressure is increased significantly. I don’t know what the “safe” limit for boost / cylinder pressures are before the head gasket can become compromised, or valves are held open by airflow, but I would consider head studs and fire ringing the head if I was seeing 45 psi or more consistently. (Drive pressures can be considerably higher than manifold pressure, and can get there quickly if a turbine housing is sized incorrectly) I don’t know how heavier springs effect cam and roller wear long term, but if the seat pressures are kept within reason, I wouldn’t expect excessive cam wear.
      The p7100 is the “four barrel carburetor” of the diesel world, and many parts are available to modify a stock pump to push more fuel, and increase the governed engine speed.
      Not all P-pumps are created equal, however, so starting with a desirable pump is key.
      Injectors are not unreasonably priced, and can be had from mild to wild.
      For this project, I wouldn’t go wild with the timing- there isn’t much reason to rev the snot out of the engine, nor can the stock head support the air flow required.
      Keeping the timing slightly advanced will yield useable power and economy in the beneficial rpm band, but also start easily.
      I would go the compound route- having a quick spooling (S300?), with a larger unit over it to sustain EGTs on the top end. Matching airflow to the engine is the key. Selecting compressors by their highest efficiency islands vs engine load and speed will keep inlet air charge dense and cool, and yield more power potential, EGT control, and fuel mileage.
      An AFC Live from Power Driven Diesel would be a great start as well. The unit allows full control of the AFC housing from in the cab, allowing the driver to “tune” on the fly. It would be a great way to dial the fuel up or down as necessary to match conditions and mods. The pre-boost fueling will really wake the engine up as well.

      @@dieseldemon8562 thank you for all the info. My knowledge for increasing power in a mechanical diesel is very limited right now. Still have a lot to learn.

      @@gingerauto Not a problem! I’m still learning a lot about the DT 360 myself. I’ve always wanted to build an honest IH and use the 360 or 466, rather than a Cummins.
      Very nice build on the Loadstar, too! I even showed my gf the pics of a stock truck vs yours. The stock truck was restored, and got a “Cute, but I wouldn’t want one.” Then I showed her yours, and said this is the same model... Yours received a “Wow!” So you got the approval there, and I owe you a beer- she might not gripe so much next time I drag something from the weeds! 😂
      Keep up the great work and I can’t wait to see more of the truck! Definitely check in with Tod at Power Driven Diesel and the AFC Live. He can take the numbers from your poverty pump and let you know the ins and outs of it, and the AFC Live should work on yours. He can confirm. He has a channel here on UA-cam at Power Driven Diesel, as well.

      @@dieseldemon8562 I looked into building a dt360 once. If I remember correctly there were some tractor motors that you could mix and match parts from and make a larger displacement engine with factory parts. Since its been a few years I unfortunately don't remember the models. I think I learned most of this from tractor pulling forums. Check out Wiped out enterprises, hypermax, and Carson Stauffer diesel for parts. I think all of them offer more than what they list for the dt360. Their bread and butter motors are the dt466 and 7.3 powerstroke/dt444e.

    Hey Ginger auto, I have the same loadstar that my dad gave me ten years ago when I got out of the Marine Corps. Now that I have some money, I'm thinking of buying a 94-98 F700 that has a 5.9 Cummins w/ p-valve and removing the ford cab and swapping with the loadstar cab so I have an old look with newer drivability. Is this doable and would you recommend this route? Thx
