I have seen many reactions to this song and everytime AFW ( Ann Wilson) sings her part the reactors have a huge smile some know who she is right away, but those who don't are surprised by her power and she is 73 yrs old. What a bad ass she is !!❤❤❤
Great song. On Friday Disturbed performed this song live for the first time with Moriah Formica from the band Plush who were chosen to open for them so that Moriah could do this song every night with David. Moriah does Ann proud.
Disturbed's Divisive album was four years in the making, during which two of the band members' marriages broke down. Drummer Mike Wengren got divorced early in the pandemic and guitarist Dan Donegan went through a split in early 2022. This song is about a disintegrating relationship where each party struggles with letting go. It was inspired by the ending of Donegan's marriage. "That was a really personal one for me," Dan Donegan told Billboard. "During COVID-19, I was going through a divorce after 18 years of marriage. Part of that divorce process is that there was still a great deal of love we have for each other, and we couldn't imagine our lives without each other. Just that letting go, letting somebody go that you still love, but maybe the marriage just might not be working anymore... It was touching on that. It was just very personal." Donegan came up with the concept, then wrote the lyrics with Disturbed singer David Draiman. "I threw a few lines at him, and he took the ball and ran with it." Donegan said. Then Feb 2023 David also got divorced.
They probably mixed Ann farther back so she wouldn't overtake him. Her voice can do that when she's singing the higher harmony for sure. If you've seen her sing live she holds the mic about 3 feet from her mouth when she is harmonizing exactly for that reason.
David Draiman trained as a Jewish Cantor in his youth. You have that pure, unmuddied voice to even be able to be trained. I’ve seen Ann in her Ann Wilson of Heart Thing twice in the last 7 years! I love her solo show. She only sings a few Heart songs. She covers songs that have lyrics that speak to her. My favorites being Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven and Aretha Franklin’s “Ain’t No Way.”
Enjoyed your reactions! Ann has done duets with Robin Zander, K.D. Lang, Elton John, Allison Krauss and Vince Gil. All good... but in my opinion, this is the best.

This album is great. My favourites are Hey You and Bad Man. The videos are fantastic.
Does this this remind you at all of the Ozzy/Lita Ford song, "If I Close My Eyes Forever"
I love them both!
Very similar. This one hit me between the eyes though. Both the vocals and the symbolism in the video.
Funny enough draiman covered this as well with lzzy hale on his side band Device

People who have been doing that for that long just do it for the enjoyment of performing.
The guitar 🎸 player wrote this song about his divorce and then David went throug his own. Thats what I've seen in the comments
