*Dimebag Darrell is the lead guitarist. The drummer is his brother Vinnie Paul. A crazed "fan" was so obsessed with Pantera that he couldn't handle it when Pantera split up. Darrell and Vinnie had a new band called Damageplan. They were set to play at a club in Ohio when Darrell was shot and killed on stage in 2004. Vinnie went on to play drums in an awesome band called 'HellYeah" for the next 12 years. He died in his sleep in 2018 from severe heart problems. The Abbott Brothers were (and still are) dearly loved and missed. Rest in Power! \m/*
There is a lot more to it. The murderer had major mental health problems he didn't treat. He would tell people he was a musician, then pass off Pantera songs as his. When someone called him out on it, the dude went into a rage. He happened to get on the Damage Plan bus and was acting weird so he got asked to leave. He came back to the club, bolted past security, went up on stage, killed Dime, then shot a bunch of people including the security guard who tried to stop him & some fans who tried to help Dime.
*Pantera - "Walk" and "Cemetery Gates" are just 2 from this awesome playlist of theirs.... RIP Vinnie and Dimebag. The Abbott Brothers are dearly missed..*
I've haven't listened to a lot of Pantera & I have no clue what the lyrics were to this songs - but didnt matter cause I felt it. Got damn the guitarist was killer and the drummer was hard af! I loved the outro - the slowed down beat was fire! So many people recommended this! Glad I watched it! Thanks y'all! ✌❤🎵
On the album I can hear what Phil is saying. On here I can't understand a damn thing! "Uhh a raising of waahhh!! Thats basically what I hear listening to this lol
that part 5:33 where he show his left mid finger is if im not mistaken was cut bleeding through the string from a hard sliding, and that is how passionate the great Dimebag is.
Nah he wasn’t cut. His fingertips like all guitarist, and bass players especially, are like diamonds. He just looked cool. I play guitar and that harmonic squeal thing he does is not too difficult with some practice. But to be as good as he is at it? that takes lots of practice. If that makes any sense.
For most bands, the average listener will recognize one of their songs as soon as the vocalist comes in. Pantera, you know it's them the second you hear the guitar riff. Dimebag is a guitar legend, his tone and style led to a million copycats, but no one ever quite figured the whole thing out.
Dime was murdered onstage in Columbus Ohio December 8th 2004, I was to attend that show as I live 40 minutes away, I had gotten sick and could not make it. Such a talented guitarist and a great human being always took time out for his fans. Also Dimebags brother Vinnie Paul the drummer, died just a couple years ago. This band ruled the heavy scene for a whole decade.
I was supposed to go with my brother, he lived in Cbus and I lived in KY at the time...I couldn't get off work and was threatened to get fired if I called off so my brother sold both tickets
@@michaelburns7530 I live by Nutter Center in Dayton at the time. I am crazy enough I would have been killed or I would have gotten Nathan Gale myself. LOL. One of the saddest days of my life to that time.
Definitely a sad day for all metal fans, don't know how I would've reacted had I went but I think enough of us could have taken Gale out before the cop ever showed up lol
Vinnie Paul was one of the nicest people I ever met. RIP to the Abbott brothers ♥️ glad I got to pay my respects to their graves in Arlington. Such talent.
I love all kinds of music but Pantera was my first real "love" as far as metal goes. Been listening to them since I was 14 and they had just released their album "Vulgar Display of Power" in 1992. The guitarist you mention, Dimebag Darrell is basically THEE guitar god to me and I have nothing but love for him and his work. It has been a good while now since he was murdered but I remember clearly when I first heard of it. RIP Dime - you are still loved here on earth brother.
With regard to Dime. Not only was he talented, he was an all around good dude. Nice to everyone, silly, fun, and positive. He is a role model to many. I know he's one for me, for sure. ❤ RIP Dime
Dime didn’t just pass away he was assassinated at a small show in Ohio. He was playing with his brother the drummer of Pantera Vinnie also now deceased. A crazed man shot him point blank then opened fire on everyone until police showed up and took the guy out
Dimebag Darrell (guitar) and Vinnie Paul (drums) were brothers, born Darrell Lance Abbott & Paul Vincent Abbott in Texas in the Dallas area ... their father Jerry Abbott was a country music artist and had his own recording studio. Both started playing guitars as teens after becoming fans of Kiss in the 1970's, but Vinnie Paul let his younger brother excel on guitar, while he picked up playing drums so they could form a band together. In the early 80's they formed Pantera as teenagers and played small gigs in the Dallas area. Rex Brown joined on bass and Terence Lee became the singer... Being huge fans of Kiss, Van Halen and Judas Priest, Pantera put on spandex and rocked out 3 indie records... In 1987, they opted to play a harder edge metal sound, inspired by Metallica and Slayer... so they fired Terence Lee and finally hired New Orleans native Phil Anselmo, then recorded a 4th album in 1988 before they ditched the 'glam rock' image for a more casual look. By the time Pantera was actually signed to a major record label in 1990, they were already seasoned veterans, having played live for the last 7 - 8 years... They skipped playing their 4 early records and started fresh w/ the album 'Cowboys from Hell' in 1990, which was a rejuvenation of extreme thrash metal in the 90's... This gig in Russia, opening for AC/DC and Metallica in the fall of 1991, showed the crushing power Pantera had live on stage. Their constant touring paid off huge, when the next album 'Vulgar display of power' in 1992 put them on the charts. Sadly by 2001, the disconnect between the Abbott brothers and Phil Anselmo (vocals) & Rex Brown (bass) ended Pantera's run... In 2004, Dimebag & Vinnie formed a new band Damageplan, and released their first album. Tragically, a deranged gunman broke into the Ohio nightclub where Damageplan were performing in late 2004... the gunman shot & killed Dimebag Darrell and 3 others before police killed him. Vinnie Paul would return in 2007 w/ the band Hellyeah! and recorded 6 albums w/ the band before he passed away in 2018 from heart failure... He was laid to rest next to his brother Dime 😪🤘🤘
I think the more you listen to Pantera the more they'll grow on you! God rest the soul of the one and only incomparable Dimebag 🤘🏻🤘🏻A guitar God amongst us mortals! "Walk" "Cowboys From Hell" "Cemetery Gates" "This Love" "5 Minutes Alone" "Fucking Hostile" "I'm Broken"
They opened for AC/DC there were 6 bands they stopped counting at 1.6 million, but they guessed it was 2 million. 54 people died some from natural causes and some not. Dime is the lead guitarist he was shot on stage by a crazy fan in Texas and his brother Vinnie passed a few years later he was the drummer due to a heart attack. They were the only children that their parents had. You can Google the death of Dime and Dime was not the only one that died that night. Much love. Brandi Modrak
The guitarist Dimebag Darrell was shot & killed on stage in front of his brother Vinny who plays drums in this band & the other band they were in after Pantera broke up. Vinny passed away a few years ago due to illness. RIP Abbott brothers🤘
Keep in mind this was in Moscow like 6 months before the fall of communism and the Soviet Union collapsed. These people were psyched about their unknown future of freedom. I saw Pantera in concert 9 times. You read it correctly.......9.....🤘
Many speakers have met their end due to this songs ending...I actually ran into Vinnie Paul when I was in L.A. visiting my Uncle at a club called the Rainbow when he was leaving the bathroom. I just said "VINNIE?" "Yeah Man..." "Thank you for the music..." I didn't have the heart to ask for an autograph. Dimebag had just been murdered and I could feel the pain in him.
Cartman I don't know where you went in the live chat lol. No I was not at the show in Moscow. That was misleading. I went when they came to the Grand Old Starwood amphitheater in Nashville Tennessee for the Ozz Fest in '93
I read somewhere that Dimebag auditioned for Megadeth, but he didn't join because him and Vinny were a package deal. Dave Mustaine said no because they had just hired Nick Menza, and he didn't deserve to be fired. I can't imagine what a band with Dave and Dimebag would have been like. Of course they formed Pantera and gave us an extra great band.

I don’t think he drank that much. I don’t care who you are you’d be done on the floor throwing up everywhere lol. That’s 16-32 shots. He did have drinky before going up and they all would drink while performing. Just enough to loosen up a bit.
Pantera was special because they looked like a hate group, but they always spoke Shakespearian to me. They were the feelings of all people. And if anyone took that differently, they got this band way wrong. Beautiful souls! I miss them as a band so much.
