no one really sang like phil. he set the mold for this type of metal back then. even then the range he had IN THE BEGINNING was extraordinary. the highs and lows he could hit were incredible. concert after concert ended up shredding his vocal cords. listen to him today, he's basically a dinosaur growl.

i think eventually there will be (talent wise) no one can replace the man himself, and when we do see an equal talent wise, dimebags name will be written all over him because 10000% dimebag would be the reason of their success as a guitarist. Imagine a kid on the shitter right now rockin a pantera shirt just ripping away on his guitar, no real training, just playing with passion and instinct, who knows lol

Nothing touches this IMO for raw expression and energy on stage, always blows me away Phil's and Dimebag's expression and movement in this video, it is just instinctual and raw. It is also why nothing can touch Pantera IMO, the chemistry of Phil and Dimebag, the way they seem to be able to feed off of one another you do not find often in music, and all the little natural fills you can hear in this music, Phil grunting in certain spots, Dimebag with the whammy bar.

Three things, to fully understand. How Dimebag Darrell, developed his style.
    1. He played guitar, everyday. He took that guitar with him. Where ever he went. That passion and drive, took him above other amazing guitarist.
    2. He played live, which definitely. With his brother, made the band skyrocket.
    3. He was a very humble individual. Taking time, to greet his fans.
Those amazing notes, being played. There are called squeals, freaking amazing.

I think Slayer is progenitor of Groove Metal along with a bunch of Crossover bands from the 90's like D.R.I. and Suicidal Tendencies before Pantera's switch to Metal. Pantera perfected it tho. Groove Metal is the hidden metal subgenre that keeps getting misclassified for lack of understanding. Nu Metal is really just Groove Metal same thing as NWOAHM really being Technical Groove Metal. Groove is the sweet spot the bread and butter of metal music.

Never seen any live performance more often … that means hundreds! And I still don’t get sick of it!
My big request on your pantera journey is my fav song. Even if it’s not a „hit“: the art of shredding live 1990! It tells all about their underestimated talent: in- and outside … you will get it if you’re watching 😝

Pantera's Cemetery Gate is a must to react. One of the most iconic song of the 90's and still kicking these days. =)

Mate just remember in the world of labels...
    Metal this and that..
    Pantera are 'groove' metal...
    Just them...nobody else.
And why,. because they are heavy as fook...but groovy..😎👊🤟

Groove is the sweet spot for metal music, if you think about it most of the best metal songs have the alot groove to them no matter the subgenre.

Ha ha. There was a day back in the 90s where I had a very similar reaction....the first time I heard them. Yeah, to this day, they are still on my playlist. I call it "morning coffee". Another note...the squeal from his guitar, he actually got paid to make that squeal. His guitar sponsor knew the crowd loved it.
