i think eventually there will be (talent wise) no one can replace the man himself, and when we do see an equal talent wise, dimebags name will be written all over him because 10000% dimebag would be the reason of their success as a guitarist. Imagine a kid on the shitter right now rockin a pantera shirt just ripping away on his guitar, no real training, just playing with passion and instinct, who knows lol

I feel so bad for you young ones that didn't get to see Pantera live! It was AWESOME! I've still got picks, back stage passes and all other cool shit from the band. Me and some friends hung out with them after a show at the Whiskey in Hollywood, I think it was 89 or 90. Cool fun times, great guys, humble and sweet.

Agreed! Saw them at The Stone and Warfield in SF. The lady who used to cut my hair for 20 years was Sunny of Sunny Productions. She brought them to Sacramento the first time. I'm 46 and grew up listening to 80's/90's metal. I remember exactly where I was the first time I heard Pantera. It's amazing watching people reacting to these metal bands that all aren't metalheads and you can see them realize that they have been missing out. I love it.

  • @petecabrina

Nothing touches this IMO for raw expression and energy on stage, always blows me away Phil's and Dimebag's expression and movement in this video, it is just instinctual and raw. It is also why nothing can touch Pantera IMO, the chemistry of Phil and Dimebag, the way they seem to be able to feed off of one another you do not find often in music, and all the little natural fills you can hear in this music, Phil grunting in certain spots, Dimebag with the whammy bar.

I think Slayer is progenitor of Groove Metal along with a bunch of Crossover bands from the 90's like D.R.I. and Suicidal Tendencies before Pantera's switch to Metal. Pantera perfected it tho. Groove Metal is the hidden metal subgenre that keeps getting misclassified for lack of understanding. Nu Metal is really just Groove Metal same thing as NWOAHM really being Technical Groove Metal. Groove is the sweet spot for metal music, if you think about it most of the best metal songs have the alot groove to them no matter the subgenre.

Three things, to fully understand. How Dimebag Darrell, developed his style.
    1. He played guitar, everyday. He took that guitar with him. Where ever he went. That passion and drive, took him above other amazing guitarist.
    2. He played live, which definitely. With his brother, made the band skyrocket.
    3. He was a very humble individual. Taking time, to greet his fans.
Those amazing notes, being played. There are called squeals, freaking amazing.

Yes!! They've got a hard groove to them!
Edit: Suicidal Tendencies also have a groove tobthem, but not as strong or hard as Pantera, imo.
❤️ Pantera & I've been in the mosh pits many times! When I was in my early 20s until my last pregnancy. I also went to Metallica, Suicidal Tendencies concert 94' five months pregnant! And she's now almost 29 and she loves ❤️ metal! Haha...😂🤘

YES, Suicidal Tendencies! They had a HUGE impact on thrash, groove and all kinds of music! Way more than their popularity would have suggested! "All I wanted was a Pepsi...!" @@Metal_Mary

Groove is the sweet spot the bread and butter of metal music.

I saw them in '91 in a tiny little club in Phoenix. There was maybe 50 people in the building. Mind blowing.

Seen them at Ozzfest 2000, they stayed as the band to play for The Ozzman himself, while he had a broken leg! Cali energy baby!

Never seen any live performance more often … that means hundreds! And I still don’t get sick of it!
My big request on your pantera journey is my fav song. Even if it’s not a „hit“: the art of shredding live 1990! It tells all about their underestimated talent: in- and outside … you will get it if you’re watching 😝
