Hope you and the boys are doing good. It's hard to believe schools are about ready to start, huh! I'd say you're staying busy getting them ready for this school year. You are great doing tutorials. In this pattern, you start with 6 double crochet stitches in row one, then row two increases to 12 double crochet stitches. To make sure you have the right count for the big pattern repeats later, you might be able to do any multiple of 6, but I wouldn't recommend starting with a multiple of 8 since I haven't tested it.

It certainly should! I used less than one ball of Herrschnerrs Worsted 8 (489 yds) and made a shawl that almost reaches my elbows.

For the first round of rows, yes. Since you can repeat it infinitely, after the first section, I don't include stitch count. Glad you're enjoying it!

Can you use it’s a wrap yarn by red heart it’s a 1 weight I think? If so what hook size? I’ve been looking for an easy moon shape to do.
Yes! A 4-5mm hook would be best with that weight of yarn. Depends on how lacy you want your stitches to turn out.
