whether the Church is homophobic or not (and, unfortunately, it often is) is irrelevant here. Priests are forbidden from being in romantic or sexual relationships of any kind. they're called to celibacy

Catholicism is false anyway. They include idol worship by using images and praying to saints. If imperfect humans could intercede on our behalf, then there was no need for Jesus to die for us, as the Bible clearly states that only Jesus intercedes on our behalf (Romans 8:34 and Hebrews 7:25).

No, that he made it public. Breaking the vow is a sin, though a heavy one, like others and no reason for getting kicked out. There are many priests with illegal children and their bishops know but they are dismissed as soon as they legally accept fatherhood. Great solution for gay priests suppressing their orientation: Don't ordain gay men. Don't lie about your sexuality if you want to be a priest - if it's not meant to be it's not meant to be.
Gay men are still living, breathing parts of the Church, it is no less so just because gay men can't be priests. Orthodoxy isn't there to bully or unjustly exclude people, it's there to keep the Church holy, and orthodoxy should be close to the heart of every Catholic Christian.

The Vatican IS NOT homophobic, it does not have problems with priests being homosexual. It DOES have a problem with priests who do not respect the celibacy vow, which means NO SEX. This guy had a sexual relation (hetero, gay, doesn't matter), and that's why the Vatican dismissed him. In fact, Charamsa naively reasoned like a 19th century cleric, when sex was indeed defined (by society and the Vatican) as something that exclusively occurred between a man and a woman, leaving practicing homosexual (and even practicing pedophile) priests with a clear conscience. Because the church and the misguided faithful (Society as a whole) teach these people that who they are is wrong. It teaches them that to exist in a world of hate many must hide. Some choose to lead a life, marry and pretend to be straight. Many enter the Seminary and become priests. It must be horrible having to lie to yourself and others about who you are. If being born with black hair was considered a sin, people would shave their head bald or dye it blond. Unfortunately sooner or later their true being will appear. Catholic here.. Bible does not say that priests cannot marry. It was a practice came about around the 4th century... (Canon 33 of the Council of Elvira) This man is trying to get the sympathy of people by emphasising that he is gay, so people might 'come to gather to protect him from the evil church'. However, he has broken the promise he made to God. This is the same promise you make to your wife. Priests commit to celibacy. This is the 'policy of the employer if you like'. It has nothing to do with being gay.... Thank you!

Other mainstream churches (like Episcopalian & Presbyterian USA - and soon, perhaps, United Methodist) have decided that homosexuality is no longer sinful, and are paying the price of steadily diminished membership as a result.

Actually, nowhere in the Bible does it say Priests should be celibate. All the Jewish priests were married and of the Levi Tribe. This is just a silly rule the early Church created. Also, Bible scholars (which sure aren't commenting here) have shown that the anti-gay remarks in the Bible were all directed at temple prostitution, where you could go to a temple and pay to have sex with a male, if you were a male. This allowed you to achieve some sort of bizarre oneness with the pagan god, since they also believed that the Priest became the god in the ritual just like the Eucharist Priest becomes Jesus. There was no such thing as a gay sexual orientation then in the Biblical mind. They could not conceive of it. They were talking about men who have sex with men in the temple of BAAL. This was the only acknowledged homosexuality that existed then in the Biblical mind. So now you are applying it 21 centuries later to 2 men who deeply love each other? Ludicrous. A priest can technically be "homosexual" as long as they are celibate and don't have those homosexual tendencies in the seminary.

Homosexuals, celibate or not, should never be ordained.
Countless bishops in Church history, both Orthodox and Catholic, plus numerous Church Councils have decreed that even a man with homosexual tendencies is NOT to be ordained because said individuals cannot effectively be priests and some homosexuals are demonically possessed. The homosexual tendency itself is intrinsically disordered and therefore such a man afflicted with this is NOT to be ordained. This priest in the video should be defrocked for two reasons: 1. He is not to be a priest and 2. he is openly violating his vow of celibacy which is grounds for defrocking.
Celibacy is a ridiculous rule in the first place and is part of the reason there are so many cases of sexual abuse in the church

I refuse to take my communion from a married priest just as I refuse it from a sexually active gay priest. As Jesus said, you have one master to serve, and the moment you chose the path of becoming a priest, you should be higher than earthy needs. The vow of celibacy is sacred and it applies to all sexual relations regardless.

There are more laws in the Bible besides the Ten Commandments. Leviticus condemned homosexuality. This law did not change in the New Testament (Romans 1:26-28).
Therefore, anyone practicing homosexuality is clearly violating God’s law. Using either motif doesn’t apply. Stating facts is not judging others.
Additionally, if a priest (or anyone else for that matter) feels that these laws in the Bible are man made, why would they allow themselves to be governed by the Bible?

Read Jude 14-15, 2 Thessalonians 2:8-10, and Matthew 7:21-23. If a person is misusing the Blood of Jesus as an excuse to practice sin, God will punish you, even if you are doing good works.

I'm catholic. Catholic priests are now becoming more and more confusing. Some have secret offsprings, some secretly committed to relationships and now they are openly gay? Why would they not leave and marry, gay partners or otherwise, and have families. If this is about being a priest, they can go be Methodist or Anglican priests and marry and have same sex partners if they wish. Yes. My associate pastor in the Roman Catholic church wanted to have a _relationship_ with me. When I told my Archbishop, he was rewarded with the job of pastor of a rural church. It is so hypocritical. A new priest told me that in his semenary, there were mostly gay men and that it is ignored. This was in the USA. Some dioceses are extremely homophobic and I was warned about them. Now I am Episcopalian and free of the hypocricy.
