Welcome to the first of what will hopefully be a series of helpful videos for anyone contemplating building a home in the Caribbean. While the video footage happens to be taken on the Dominican Republic’s north coast much the same could be expected in any area featuring full concrete block and cement construction.
While this first video is simply an introduction video as the series unfolds expect to receive a section by section review of what is like building a residence using these standards. Trust me when I say it’s vastly different than any of the many homes I built during my almost four decades of being in the dirt game.
In fact I was once dubbed Mr. Cape Coral by a prominent news channel out of S.W. Florida. Several times I’ve placed in the top ten Real Estate agents in S.W. Florida and have worked extensively with upper scale home builders like Aubuchon Homes and Mercedes Homes. I even assisted with what are deemed “cookie cutters” entry level models with companies like First Home Builders. All that may have been over a decade ago but the hands on wisdom is still there.
This series is being done in efforts to provide the viewer with a clearer understanding of the many differences between the traditional drywall and stud construction found in most parts of America and Canada and the full rebar, cement inside and out construction featured in most parts of the Caribbean. As we go along I’m learning there are actually more differences than similarities.
Years prior I informed our subscribers that when we’re doing our own construction we would be video recording it to formulate a series. After we walk the walk then we can talk the talk. Months went into assembling who we chose to work with and while we’re still in our first third of the job, we can already see the time spent was worth every minute spent while doing it.

Great construction build old Barry. Learned so much from this, as I plan to use the same concrete blocks, similar design concept as mine.

I live in Cabarete and I am getting into property development. I am primarily focused on projects in the UK/ US. I would love an opportunity to learn what this process has been like for you. Is there anyway I could contact you privately? I'd happily take you to Tuva or a place of your liking in exchange!

Barry what’s the cost of construction currently. I’m an architect and contractor from DR, living in Miami looking to build in DR.

What I'm finding out is a lot people ignore these questions which makes no sense. Why even post the video.
