About 2ish years ago, I got a misdemeanor ticket. I live in a mostly white town. I am 5'0 about 130 and a male cop beat me until I was bruised and bloody. I was sore for weeks. The prosecutor asked for jail time. I was 25 and had never been in trouble before. I was the only person of color in the court room. The prosecutor didn't ask for jail time for anyone else in line in front of me, for crimes way worse. Luckily the charges were dropped. I was innocent. And the cop who arrested me is now in jail for brutalizing women.

Last night I watched Just Mercy. Once we were done, I held in the tears all the way until me and my sister we alone in her room. I then continued to start sobbing my eyes out uncontrollably. I was heartbroken that those things happen. And still do. I like to think that I’m a very... present type of person? I know what is going on in the world, and sometimes I do not approve of it. But the movie.... I loved it. And more people need to see it. Even the younger ones. I was not ready to watch the movie. I had no clue what it was about nor did anyone in my family give me a heads up. But I’m kind of glad they didn’t, because I saw the whole image.

I read the book a few years before the movie came out after I watch Bryan Stenson being interviewed on Al Jazeera (US). I am glad I did. It is something different when you read the book and then see the movie as opposed to the reverse. When you see the movie before reading the book, it takes the fun/
imagination out of it since you already have images and pictures from the movie associated with the characters.
In any case, it was a great book.

“Just Mercy” is the most awakening presentation of our national crisis with race. If you can read it without emotional reaction, you need to check if you have a heart. Another comment in this chain suggests that Mr. Stevenson should receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom is SO TRUE - unfortunately, our current administration is at the polar opposite of this situation. My prayers are with the EJI in knowing they shall overcome.

From day one, I wanted to watch this movie, finally I did. I experience a lot of similarities, especially Michael B Jordan last words about the opposite of wealth is not poverty but lack of justice. I really felt deeper watching the movie. Great work Michael and Fox
